‘Venture Bros. Season 5′ Confirmed

Tom Cheredar   |

Venture Bros.

A fifth season of Venture Bros. will indeed happen, confirmed show creator Jackson Publick on his blog.

Another season of the Adult Swim hit show seemed likely and was hinted in the end credits of last season’s finale.

Unfortunately, there aren’t many details at this point, but then again this is a show where spoilers never really mean much compared to the humor it brings.

“P.S. One last Christmas gift: I promised “news” the last time I was here. And though I’m not at liberty to disclose the full details just yet, I am happy to at least be able to tell you that we were not lying in the end credits of our season finale: The Venture Bros. will indeed return. More on that later… Happy Holidays!” [...]

DVD Review: Best Worst Movie

BAADASSSSS!   |

Best Worse Movie DVD

Best Worst Movie
DVD
Director Michael Stephenson
Starring George Hardy, Michael Stephenson, Darren Ewing
New Video Group
Release Date: November 16, 2010

Imagine, somewhere out there in the United States of America, there is a video store that actually has a section called “Holy Fucking Shit.” It must take a very special movie to end up in that particular section, and it must take a very special audience to embrace that movie. The new documentary Best Worst Movie is about such a film.

Meet George Hardy. He’s a dentist living and working in the small town of Alexander City, Alabama. George is a really nice guy. Everyone loves the man and it’s not hard to see why. George approaches everything he does, from giving one of his patients a filling to playing a rollerblading tooth fairy in the town’s annual Christmas parade, with an indomitable spirit and a zest for life. Give him a smile and a howdy and the man will be your friend for life. It’s hard to not like George Hardy. The mayor of Alexander City greets him with a hug, and even the guy’s ex-wife has not a single bad word to say about him. But if you bring up the one moment of notoriety in the life of George Hardy, that one time he decided to indulge his youthful passion for acting by taking the lead in a little-known horror flick that was filmed quietly in the town of Morgan, Utah, not far away from where an independent film revolution was brewing at the Sundance Film Festival, then suddenly everything gets awkward. The reason is because the movie George starred in had charted a two-decade journey from reviled exploitation toss-off to beloved cult phenomenon. The movie in question is Troll 2 and Best Worst Movie (now available on DVD after a limited theatrical run) tells the story of how it all happened and how this extraordinary turn of events came to affect the lives of nearly all involved, primarily George Hardy [...]

Bad Santa infographic

After recording the Christmas Movies episode of Flix of Doom earlier this month, I found out that my mother’s favorite Christmas movie is Bad Santa. Yes, the movie starring Billy Bob Thornton.

Am I little bit disturbed by this? Sure, but hey, plenty of people have told me it’s a cool movie, so I guess I’d better get around to checking it out soon.

Apparently, Mama’s not the only fan of Bad Santa. The folks over at LocateTV have created a fun Christmas-themed infographic called “Bad Santa” which has some behind-the-scenes trivia of on some of the most popular Christmas films, including Bad Santa, It’s A Wonderful Life, Elf, and more.

Watch Now: The Jedi Save Christmas In ‘Star Wars Christmas’

Star Wars Christmas song

Oh no! The Empire has set up a blockade around the North Pole, impeding Santa from delivering gifts to all the good younglings! Looks like it’s up to the Jedi to save Christmas.

Check out the video below of “Star Wars Christmas,” a music video by Sci-Fried, the self-proclaimed “premiere geek rock experience.”

Not only is the song catchy, but it tells a great tale of Star Wars heroicism. And worth watching for the insane amount of Star Wars memorabilia present, as well as the puppet opening with Yoda [...]

Jon Bon Jovi Wishes R2-D2 A Merry Christmas

Empress Eve   |

Bon Jovi - Star Wars Christmas Album

Jon Bon Jovi.

He’s a huge star now, but back before he got his big break in the music industry in the early 1980s, the singer was sweeping floors for cash at his cousin’s recording studio, where they just so happened to be making Christmas In The Stars: Star Wars Christmas Album. During the making of the album, the young Bon Jovi got a chance to make his first professional recording on the song, “R2-D2 We Wish You A Merry Christmas.”

Listen to the song here below. It’s SO good. Trust me, just one listen and you will not only love it, you won’t be able to stop listening to it. R2-D2 makes an appearance on the track, as does Anthony Daniels as C-3PO [...]

Geek Gear: Star Wars/Abbey Road T-Shirt ‘Cantina Walk’

Empress Eve   |

Cantina Walk

In light of the news today that Abbey Road Crossing was designated a landmark, I thought it’d be great to share this T-shirt design over at Threadless called Cantina Walk.

The design, by artist iceknyght, shows Mos Eisley Cantina band Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes from the first Star Wars film replicating the icon Abbey Road Crossing photo from The BeatlesAbbey Road album.

The t-shirt is not yet for sale. Instead, Threadless is asking people to vote for the design. If enough people want it, they’ll sell, so be sure to head over to the site and vote for it! Go to the top right side of the page, where it says “I’d buy it…” and there’s two boxes you can check off underneath: “as a tee!” and “as a print!” As of right now, there’s 5 more days left before the voting ends, so be sure to make it over there and cast your vote! Beatles’ Abbey Road Crossing Given Landmark Status

Beatles abbey road

Abbey Road Crossing, where the iconic photo of The Beatles was taken for their Abbey Road album, has been designated a heritage site.

The photo of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr walking single-file along the north London zebra crossing (as it’s known in the UK) was included on the album’s sleeve and is one of the most famous pictures of The Beatles. Abbey Road Crossing, which is outside the Abbey Road Studios where the 1969 album was recorded, is already a tourist attraction that thousands of people flock to each year to recreate the famous image [...]

Marvel Reveals Its Next Event: ‘Fear Itself’

Henchman21   |

Fear Itself

In what Marvel was calling a “major press conference” the company announced this its big event for next year. Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, and VP Executive Editors Tom Brevoort and Axel Alonso announced that April will see the release of Fear Itself, a 7-issue series written by Matt Fraction with art by Stuart Immonen. The series will see the biggest characters in the Marvel universe taking on a new villain, some king of god of fear. Aside from the seven issues of the main series there will also be a prologue issue out in March, which will be written by Ed Brubaker and feature art by Scott Eaton.

As with past events, the main story will be contained in the main miniseries, however, the story will spill into any number of regular series and special issues. Brevoort remarked that the number of tie-in issues would approach the number seen during Civil War. We can expect all the major players in the Marvel U to play a part in the adventure at some point, so be prepared for that [...]

Movie Review: True Grit

Three-D   |

True Grit

True Grit
Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen
Starring: Hailee Steinfeld, Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin and Barry Pepper
Release date: December 22, 2010

Let’s see who justly possesses true grit: Is it the grizzled, one-eyed U.S. marshal Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), whose depleted, wobbly, massive stature is indicative of his many battles with criminals and alcohol? How about LaBoeuf (Matt Damon), a prideful Texas Ranger who has a sinister appearance and a ruthless mentality that conceals a heart of gold? What about the murderous villains such as Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin) or Lucky Ned Pepper (Barry Pepper)? Unquestionably, all these men have grit, but is it true grit? All of them have been around many years and seen and done many heinous things. They are regular frequenters of this Wild West world that knows of no remorse, killing individuals as if it were a seasonal sport. But what about Matty Ross (Hailee Steinfeld, in a commanding film debut), that 14-year-old girl whose appearance is as pure as the snowfall? Do not let this hide the inner strengths she possesses. She wants to enter this western world of wildness only to avenge the death of her father’s who was killed by Chaney. She has grit for even thinking of entering this environment. And it is true grit because this is a personal journey that she needs to fulfill.

Very furtively True Grit instigates the idea of Matty becoming consumed by vengeance more so than any man in the movie because she is willing to put at risk her purity. She has not yet been tainted by evilness, but she puts herself in a position to be acquainted with it. Joel and Ethan Coen construct a tale of lost innocence by making Matty their center of devotion. Watch her as the Coens do, as she puts herself in the company of men whose innocence was taken away from them a long time ago. They have nothing to lose. She has an abundance to lose [...]

Just In Time For Christmas: Snow + AT-AT = Your WTF Geek Pic Of The Day

Star Wars

Being a big Star Wars fan, I really dig it when fans make some “Real Star Wars” Photoshop Art; meaning if Star Wars was real and in our world, what would it look like?

This image to the right (click to enlarge) hit the web recently, originally over at Reddit, of an AT-AT roaming through a neighborhood dealing with a Snowpocalypse on the level of the Battle of Hoth — quite fitting; but aside from that, it looks brilliant.

The Reddit caption for this image was, “You are walking to your car when you see this. What do you do? What. Do. You. Do?”, which is not bad, but I wondered whether our readers here could do better… Can you think of a better caption? Let us know in the comments below.

Also, I’m a sucker for this kind of “Real Star Wars” Photoshop Art, so if you spot any online, be sure to let us know here at Geeks Of Doom [...]
