Must Watch: Preview Trailer For Kevin Smith’s ‘Red State’ Might Shock You

The Movie God   |

Since its existence first came to be known, Clerks, Mallrats, and Dogma director Kevin Smith‘s turn from comedy to horror, Red State, has been a popular topic.

At first, the script for the movie was said to be so incredibly messed up that no studios wanted anything to do with it, but eventually we found out that someone was willing to take a fitting leap of faith on it, and since then Smith has been setting his cast and filing the movie.

Now comes the very first trailer…of sorts. It’s really more of a preview — one step below a teaser trailer — but shows enough to be well worth your time. It’s not an understatement to say you’ll likely be shocked at how the movie looks. This is so insanely far from anything we’ve ever seen Kevin Smith do, you can’t help but want to see more, no matter what your feelings toward his other films may be.

You can see the preview trailer for Red State now by clicking on over to the other side! [...]

Geek Art: The Cast Of ‘Community’ As Marvel’s Avengers

Community cast as The Avengers

Artist Chris Schweizer was commissioned to draw the cast of the NBC comedy Community and decided to draw them as Marvel’s Avengers.

It’s a really great illustration, so if you’d like to download some wallpapers of it, visit Schweizer’s site for the downloadable versions, available in several sizes.

What do you think of this drawing? Which character do you think came out the best? [...]

Darth Vader, I Wish You A Merry Sithmas

The Geeks of Doom   |

By The Dude Dean

Last November 17, I saw a storm coming, and I started Save Stargate Universe on Twitter and Facebook. Last Month SyFy moved Caprica and Stargate Universe from Friday night to Tuesday night because Wrestling was more important than Sci-Fi. SyFy really didn’t market this change, but I saw it for what it was. First Caprica got the axe and within one month both shows were canceled so that SyFy Channel would have more programming room for Wrestling.

In the last week the growth of Save SGU has been strong and steady. We are now over 4200 strong. But now, we’ve got to go to the Dark Side of the Force for some help. Two days ago, I came up with the idea to Wish @DarthVader a Merry Sithmas after seeing a tweet from him poking fun at SyFy.

Video: Dark & Beautiful Adaptation Of Neil Gaiman’s Poem ‘Nicholas Was…’

The Movie God   |

As Christmas draws near, plenty of holiday-related goodies are making their way around.

Today we have for you a brief but very cool little video from the talented folks over at 39 Degrees North, a motion graphics studio from Beijing. The short is a video Christmas card adaptation of the Neil Gaiman poem, Nicholas Was…, and it mixes his dark words with equally dark yet truly beautiful animations.

You can see the video by clicking on over to the other side, and we highly recommend you do just that if you love Mr. Gaiman and fantastic animation work. [...]

Watch Now: Does Kinect Work If You Are GWAR?

cGt2099   |

Gwar

It’s nice to see GWAR getting some attention lately. They’re getting some good coverage online, starting with the brilliant Christmas video we posted here the other day.

Following that awesome abuse of Christmas Carols, comes this video filmed by GameInformer who aimed to find out whether GWAR could successfully use the new Kinect system for Xbox 360.

Following their attempts of gaming, and the attempted rape of a Wampa (yes), GWAR tour the GI offices and nobody is free from the abuse they hurl their way. Another epic video from GWAR, let’s hope we see more.

You can check out the video by clicking the image below [...]

‘Avatar’ Dubbed Most Pirated Movie Of 2010

The Movie God   |

We live in a time where piracy of movies, music, and various other forms of entertainment is oft-occurring problem. But how much does it really affect the success of those it victimizes?

It’s been officially declared that Avatar, director James Cameron‘s epic movie about humans trying to extract valuable elements from an alien planet inhabited a species known as the Na’vi, is the most pirated movie of 2010. The movie has been downloaded an astonishing 16,580,000 times…on BitTorrent alone. The previous record for downloads was 2009′s Star Trek at 10.9 million, if that tells you anything.

What might be even more shocking about this number is the lack of impact it seemed to have on the movie’s box office run. With an estimated budget of around $300 million, it was feared — though it sounds silly now — that the movie might be destined to flop, but it wasn’t long before Avatar was shattering records. Domestically, the movie brought in $760,507,625 (destroying Cameron’s other seemingly untouchable Titanic, which long sat at over $600 million), while overseas box office delivered $2,019,044,242, putting it very close to hitting $3 billion worldwide. Electronic Arts Developing Movie Based On The Infamous ‘Madden Curse’

The Movie God   |

Any sports fan or fan of sports video games has likely heard of the feared Madden Curse. The “curse” comes from the belief that any National Football League athlete who appears on the cover of a Madden NFL video game would be struck with some form of injury or debilitative setback. This hasn’t happened every single year, but it has happened often enough to cause many to become true believers.

Now The Wrap is reporting that the company behind the Madden franchise, Electronic Arts, is taking this phenomena to a new place with the development of a new feature comedy. EA Sports has never believed the curse to be true, but that doesn’t mean they can’t take advantage of its existence in popular culture.

According to the reports, the movie will be about a “former Madden video game champion” (it’s unclear whether this means an ex-football champion or simply a champion of the game itself) who is forced to return to the game just as his face shows up on the cover, which might just open him up to the curse. Reddit Secret Santa 2010 Proves Geeks Are Thoughtful Gift Givers

Tom Cheredar   |

Secret Santa 2010

In a world permeated by social media and mobile communication, it seems impossible to ignore the persistent thoughts inside your own head long enough to really focus on a concept like gift giving — a single act of generosity tailored to a specific person for the sole purpose of making them ridiculously, tear-inducingly happy.

I’d like to believe most people would enjoy being able to come up with a gift of that caliber on an annual basis for every single person in their lives. Realistically, only those closest to you will be afforded thoughtful presents while the bulk of others will get something for the sake of giving them something. Giving a thoughtful gift to someone you don’t know very well can prove to be a difficult task.

That is, unless you are one of the more than 17,000 Reddit users in 90 different countries who participated in the site’s second Secret Santa gift exchange, which generated over $600,000 (and counting) in purchases and set a new world record, according to a post by Hueypriest on the Reddit blog [...]

Now that the 6-episode first season of AMC’s The Walking Dead has come and gone, we’re in for a long wait with word that a second season won’t hit until some time next fall.

Season 2 will run 13 episodes this time around, which is quite exciting to think about. To help make the wait just a little more bearable, AMC has released a new video with cast and crew talking about their first-season run and where they hope to go in the future.

Among those who speak, you’ll find writer, director, and producer Frank Darabont, comic book creator Robert Kirkman, producers Gale Anne Hurd and Denise Huth, and stars Andrew Lincoln and Sarah Wayne Callies.

Amazing TARDIS Bookcase To Materialize Under Some Lucky Kids’ Christmas Tree This Year

cGt2099   |

Doctor Who

Where are all these awesome geek parents and uncles and aunts coming from? Honestly, I never had anyone make something this cool for me: a TARDIS bookcase cupboard. Seriously, how amazing is this concept?

Over at Instructables, user caitlinsdad has put up step-by-step documentation on how he made this incredible TARDIS bookcase, based on the time machine used by everyone’s favorite time lord in Doctor Who. It is a Christmas gift he is preparing for his nephews, so the article is an ongoing development, but you can see the final product over there.

Caitlinsdad made the basis of the TARDIS bookcase from a cheap $20 bookcase, which is pretty amazing. I mean, my carpentry skills are on par with Homer Simpson — when I look at a bookshelf in a store, my first thought is, “Crap, will I have to assemble this?” Clearly, caitlinsdad, and many of the other fine folks over at Instructables, look at these items and immediately see artistic goals [...]

For those of you who missed last night’s Conan, as well as those of you who don’t watch the show at all, host Conan O’Brien unveiled his newly decorated set for the holiday season.

Instead of going with your traditional Christmas decor, Conan wanted to think a little bit outside of the box and deliver something wild and unique. Tommy Wiseau Talks Releasing ‘The Room’ In 3D/Blu-ray, New Clothing Line

The Movie God   |

Fans of Tommy Wiseau‘s so-bad-it’s-oh-so-good cult classic, The Room, will be thrilled to know that you have not seen the last of the movie’s offerings.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly recently, Wiseau confirmed that he has full intentions of releasing The Room not only on Blu-ray with lots and lots of behind-the-scenes features, but that he also plans on giving the movie a full 3D makeover, complete with a theatrical re-release.

Wiseau spoke about the conversion, saying “The process is very detail-oriented. But we want to do it because I’m obsessed about 3D right now, if you ask me.” He even touched on his own gluteus maximus and its three-dimensional inclusion, adding “My bottom will have to be in 3-D because I’m not changing anything, so you’ll be very close.”

The writer, director, producer, and actor went on to say that the hope is for the Blu-ray release to come before next Christmas, followed by the 3D theatrical re-release in either late 2011 or early 2012. [...]
