Saoirse Ronan Is Not To Be Messed With In This ‘Hanna’ Trailer

The Movie God   |

During our coverage of New York Comic-Con 2010 a couple of months back, you may recall reading about a new movie called Hanna (Read: NYCC 2010: ‘Hanna’ Panel With Saoirse Ronan & Eric Bana).

The movie is directed by Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice) and stars Saoirse Ronan (Atonement, The Lovely Bones), Eric Bana (Troy, Star Trek), and Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth, The Lord of the Rings). It tells the story of a young girl being raised in the wilderness by her father, who’s training her to be an incredibly deadly and unstoppable assassin.

While we could only describe the footage that was shown at Comic-Con, now you can your first look at it for yourself with the debut of the film’s first trailer. Not everything shown at the Con is here, but the new trailer definitely uses some of it and all looks well!

You can see the trailer by clicking over to the other side now. [...]

Movie Review: Black Swan

Three-D   |

Black Swan theatrical movie poster

Black Swan
Directed by Darren Aronofsky
Starring: Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel, Barbara Hershey
Release date: December 19, 2010

Combine the wonderful sounds of orchestral music with the delicate beauty and undulating movements of the ballerinas along with the indelible images that cinema provides for us and we get a truly ambitious film that is a mixture of poetry, sex, feverish dream, nightmares, and psychology. But most impressively it is an innovative fusion — of cinema and ballet — that has been rarely seen in the film medium. Here is one of the most complete films in recent memory. A film well in accord with what makes a film great, ingraining in its foundation a surplus of great performances, visionary direction, emotional music, and surprises emerging from a unique script that is not afraid to approach the unconventional.

And this unconventionality begins when Black Swan perverts all things good that usually have a tendency to comfort us, such as music, ballet, purity, motherhood, and desires. The film is, gloriously but disconcertingly, a catastrophic assault on all of these things, but more emphasis is shown on dethroning elegance from the world of ballet and perverting this world’s time-honored brilliance into something abhorrent. It is easy to accentuate gracefulness. Leave that for lesser talent [...]

Merkader   |

The first downloadable add-on for Fallout: New Vegas is out today. The pack is called Dead Money and it puts you on a trail for a lost treasure.

Just like the add-ons for Fallout 3, this is an Xbox exclusive through Xbox LIVE, for the time being. As with the last game, I expect this to hit all other platforms eventually.

The main game, Fallout: New Vegas, is currently being offered on Amazon as part of their Buy 2 for $79 deal.

Here’s the official description of Dead Money:

As the victim of a raw deal you must work alongside three other captured wastelanders to recover the legendary treasure of the Sierra Madre Casino. In Dead Money, your life hangs in the balance as you face new terrain, foes, and choices. It is up to you how you play your cards in the quest to survive. [...]

Another ‘Spider-Man’ Broadway Show Actor Injured After Fall

The Movie God   |

It’s been a messy and often dangerous ride for those involved in the $65 million Spider-Man Broadway adaptation, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. With many of the action sequences calling for significant stunt work, multiple actors involved in the show have been injured during production and rehearsals.

Now another injury has been added to the list at a performance that took place just a few hours ago. According to various reports, the accident occurred during a sequence toward the end of the production where Spider-Man is trying to save Mary Jane as she hangs from a bridge. Either the actor playing the web-slinging superhero or his stunt double for the show fell about eight to ten feet from a platform into a pit, and equipment being used in the show fell into the audience as a result.

Many in attendance seemed to think that this was all part of the show, but it was soon realized that something was actually wrong when it was announced that the show was delayed and ultimately ended. [...]

Marvel Brings ‘Alias’ Comic to TV With ‘AKA Jessica Jones’

Henchman21   |

Alias

ABC has already revealed plans for a new Incredible Hulk TV show, as well as a Cloak and Dagger series (for ABC Family), and now they have announce the third series planned to run on the network.

The series will be AKA Jessica Jones, based on the Marvel comics series Alias. Alias was written by Brian Michael Bendis and featured art by Michael Gaydos. The show will be written and executive produced by Melissa Rosenberg, screenwriter for the Twilight movies, as well as a former executive producer on Dexter. Joining her as executive producers will be Marvel TV Head Jeph Loeb, Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, and Marvel Worldwide’s Alan Fine. Bendis will help out the show as a consultant, and one can only hope that that he’s tasked with writing for the show (unless, we lose him to TV as we lost Brian K. Vaughn to Lost, in which case they should keep him away from the writer’s room) [...]

Fan Asks Director David O. Russell To Cast Nathan Fillion In ‘Drake’s Fortune’

The Movie God   |

The fan support of actor Nathan Fillion‘s desire to play Nathan Drake in the announced movie adaptation of popular video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was overwhelming, to say the very least. This support was equally matched by disappointment when it was revealed that director David O. Russell was casting Mark Wahlberg, the star of his latest movie, The Fighter.

Clearly this is something that fans are passionate about, as the first person of what’s sure to become many has approached Russell himself about reconsidering his casting choice. The gentleman got close enough to the director at a screening of The Fighter recently to plead his case, though it would appear that said pleas fell on deaf ears. Russell goes along with it cautiously, but as many of us have feared, it seems as if he has absolutely no idea who Nathan Fillion even is…though it is mentioned that his agent has sent him Fillion’s DVD audition.

You can see the encounter now by clicking on over to the other side. [...]

Just In Time For The ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special: Gingerbread TARDIS!

cGt2099   |

Doctor Who

When it comes to gingerbread, the only thing I excel at is in eating it. But there are people out there who are incredibly artistic with gingerbread houses and other concepts, and this Gingerbread TARDIS is of no exception.

Based on the time machine used by the Last of the Time Lords in Doctor Who, LiveJournal user therru has created a masterpiece just in time for the Doctor Who Christmas Special. Actually, therru made this Gingerbread TARDIS last Christmas, but decided to share with everyone how to make their own for this Christmas!

The final result is fabulous, and looks amazing. If Tom Baker saw this, he would think it to be “indomitable” and that the only thing missing would be jelly babies.

Be sure to click over to therru’s LiveJournal page for the full step-by-step procedure on how to make your own Gingerbread TARDIS – Fantastic! [...]

Marvel Comics To Relaunch ‘Fantastic Four’?

Henchman21   |

FF: A Beginning

Marvel Comics released a teaser image promoting a possible Fantastic Four relaunch. The image promotes a new #1 issue to be released in March 2011, called FF #1: A Beginning.

The current Fantastic Four team of writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Steve Epting will be staying on the book, which is a good thing as they have been doing a great job of it. The series is currently in the middle of the “3” storyline which has promised to change the book in a big way, with one of the main characters set to die. The teaser image seems to tie into that with three hexagons next to each other. Perhaps it’s some kind of chemical symbol? (Hickman is a very smart guy, and he has made the Fantastic Four suitably smart.)

I’m sure this image will make more sense once we reach the end of the current storyline, but I’m just happy to see that Hickman and Epting will be remaining on the book for the foreseeable future. I do think it’s a little weird for Marvel to reset the numbering on one of their longest-running series, especially given their recent habit of changing the numbering on their series to ignore relaunches (see: Thor, Captain America, and next month when Invincible Iron Man jumps from issue 33 to issue 500) [...]

Now Presenting: ‘A Klingon Christmas Carol’

The Movie God   |

Beloved author Charles Dickens‘ classic holiday tale, A Christmas Carol, is perhaps the greatest Christmas story ever to be crafted. It has been adapted countless times in a myriad of different fashions and styles, and one would find it very difficult to find any single soul who’s not familiar with at least one of them.

Favorite adaptations include the 1951 film of the same name starring Alastair Sim, Scrooged starring Bill Murray, and my own personal favorite, Mickey’s Christmas Carol! Just recently, director Robert Zemeckis kept things going with a performance capture animated take on the tale starring Jim Carrey in the lead role of Ebenezer Scrooge.

But adaptations of Dickens’ work aren’t restricted to just movies and specials. No, no — it goes far beyond that. Plenty of TV shows and theater productions have formed their own takes as well, and one that is catching much attention and many curious eyes (especially of festive fanboys everywhere) is called A Klingon Christmas Carol.

Click on over to the other side to learn more about this Klingon holiday production and to see a video showcase of the event complete with clips from the show. [...]

Controversy Strikes Golden Globes Yet Again With Bribery Accusations

The Movie God   |

The popularity of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and their Golden Globes ceremony has been on a steady decline as it has become more and more evident that they favor the flashy and famous as nominees and winners over the talented and deserving hopefuls each year.

Said popularity has taken yet another turn for the worse as new accusations of bribery have come hot on the heels of the announcement of this year’s nominees, which included some fairly reprehensible names and titles as awards contenders.

The controversy mainly revolves around two particular films: The Tourist, starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, and Burlesque, which stars Cher and Christina Aguilera. Both of these movies were nominated in the Best Picture Comedy or Musical category, while both also have been overwhelmed with a bombardment of poor critical reception and massive box office failure.
