Meanwhile The Old Man just got a major award (a lamp shaped like a woman’s leg), and Mom is making sure The Old Man doesn’t come near her turkey, Ralphie’s friend gets his tongue stuck to a flag pole, and Ralphie utters the f-word in front of his father. Amazing New ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy Posters From Mondo

The Movie God   |

The Alamo Drafthouse’s art boutique, Mondo, is back at it again, about to deliver yet another offering of beautiful specialty posters based on popular movies.

Recently, we exclusively debuted one of their designs right here at Geeks of Doom, and there was also their spiffy take on Tron and Tron: Legacy, but today it’s back to a galaxy far, far away for three fantastic new designs.

Wired has Mondo’s newest posters from artist Olly Moss, which are based on George Lucas’s original trilogy, Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. The new posters have a simple but colorful and eye-catching design, and many fanboys would trade in their collectible lightsabers to get this on their wall. And unfortunately some may have to do just that, because these limited editions are going to be gone unbelievably fast.

You can see all three new designs by continuing on over to the other side now. [...]

‘Terminator’ Producer Gale Anne Hurd Wants To Save The Franchise

The Movie God   |

We all know things haven’t gone so well for The Terminator franchise since James Cameron’s incredible sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day hit theaters in 1991.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines wasn’t unwatchable, but also wasn’t anywhere near what the first two movies were. Then came Terminator: Salvation, the fourth installment directed by McG, which delivered very impressive trailers and a lot of high hopes from fans but ultimately proved unworthy to the tune of millions of furious faithfuls.

Halcyon, the company behind Salvation, went bankrupt not too long after the release of the movie, and the rights to the Terminator franchise were later acquired by another company named Pacificor — though no future projects have been officially announced at the moment.

So what does Gale Anne Hurd — co-writer of the original and producer of the first three titles, as well as current producer on AMC’s The Walking Dead — think of what has become of her shared brainchild? Well, she’s not too excited about it. [...]

New International Trailer For Simon Pegg & Nick Frost Alien Adventure ‘Paul’

The Movie God   |

Another trailer has been released for the upcoming Greg Mottola comedy, Paul, and this one is of the international variety.

The movie rejoins Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as a pair of fanboys on their way to Comic-Con who discover an alien named Paul. Unlike most aliens we’ve come to know, Paul (Seth Rogen) is a foul-mouthed little fella who doesn’t quite fit the mold.

Paul will be released on March 18, 2011, and you can read a full synopsis and check out the international trailer for yourself by clicking on over to the other side now!

SYNOPSIS:
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite for the comedy adventure, Paul, as two sci-fi geeks whose pilgrimage takes them to America’s UFO heartland. While there, they accidentally meet an alien who brings them on an insane road trip that alters their universe forever.

For the past 60 years, an alien names Paul (Seth Rogen) has been hanging out at a top-secret military base. [...]

Movie Review: TRON: Legacy

Henchman21   |

Tron Legacy

TRON: Legacy
Directed by Joseph Kosinski
Starring Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde
Rated PG
Walt Disney Pictures
Release date: December 17, 2010

There are plenty of movies that I can point to as being part of my geek DNA, and the original TRON is one of those movies. I have very strong memories of watching the movie as a kid and it helped to make me the sci-fi fan that I am today. So I have been excited by the prospect of TRON: Legacy since the first announcement was made that it was coming. Now, after almost 30 years since the first film, we have the sequel. Does it live up to the original?

In the original TRON, Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) was sent into the world inside the computers, and saved that world from the Master Control Program. TRON: Legacy picks up twenty years later. Kevin Flynn has disappeared, leaving his son Sam (Garret Hedlund), an orphan, desperately holding out hope that his father is still alive. Of course, Sam also gets sent into the computer world, just as his father did before him, and he must track down his father and save the world [...]

Doctor Who Meets Star Wars

I have many geek addictions, but the two that dominate all of my obsessions are Star Wars and Doctor Who. Naturally, if anyone could mash them both together, I’d be pretty excited. And somebody has.

Well, it’s a parody mashup — but overall, the video below is a fun little exercise of weaving Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith into the Star Wars saga. The mashup was directed and edited by Rick Kelvington.

New CGI/Stop-Motion ‘Wizard Of Oz’ Re-Imagining On The Way

The Movie God   |

Yes, there are an astonishing amount of Wizard of Oz remakes, adaptations, and sequels that currently seem to be on the way at the moment. Whether they’ll all make it to the big screen remains to be seen, but that’s not stopping others from adding to the pile.

Vanguard Films has a new re-imagining of the classic tale in development called Oz Wars that will use CGI and stop-motion animations. Unlike most of the other Oz projects in the works — which seem to be staying generally close to the original story — this one will be taking things to a seriously different level, being set in the contemporary world and bringing black magic, battle-ready warrior witches, monsters, and even martial arts to the table.

Vanguard has hired Mike Johnson to direct the movie, which is written by Rob Moreland. Johnson has previously co-directed Corpse Bride with Tim Burton, and directed episodes of The PJs. He also worked in the animation department on other stop-motion films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. Moreland has previously written Happily N’Ever After and Space Chimps. [...]

Syfy To Begin Making Movies With Universal Pictures

The Movie God   |

Syfy is best known for their science fiction TV series like Battlestar Galactica and Caprica, as well as their unexplained phenomena shows like Ghost Hunters and Destination Truth. They’re also known for some of the (intentionally) worst TV movies you’ll ever lay eyes on, like Sharktopus and Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus.

Now comes word that Syfy, who belongs to NBC Universal, will be teaming up with Universal Pictures to step into the realms of feature films with their new venture, Syfy Films. The plan is to produce one or two new movies each year with small to moderate budgets ranging from $5 million to $25 million.

Movies produced will not be restricted to just science fiction, either; other genres including fantasy, horror, and supernatural are all expected to see some love when things get going. The first of the new Syfy Films/Universal Pictures joint venture projects is expected some time in the year 2012. [...]

Longtime Writer/Director Blake Edwards Passes Away At 88

The Movie God   |

Famed Hollywood writer and director Blake Edwards died yesterday at a health care center in Santa Monica, California. Edwards passed away due to complications from pneumonia with his family close by, including his wife, Julie Andrews. He was 88 years old.

Edwards actually started out as an actor, appearing in many different films of the 1940s, but it’s his work as a writer and director for which he’s best known and will be remembered forever. Most notably, he both wrote and directed the late Peter Sellers in 1963′s The Pink Panther, which turned into a franchise with sequels in 1975, 1976, and 1978 — all involving Edwards and Sellers. Not to mention the many spin offs, adaptations, and remakes that have made the character a pop culture icon over the years.

Though the Pink Panther films are his most identifiable works, in no way did they define his career. From westerns to dramas and romances to wars, Edwards set his stories in whatever genres complimented them the best. [...]
