Watch Now: Christmas With GWAR

cGt2099   |

Look, in all honesty, I really was going to write up something detailed and fabulous about this video, including a bit of a background of GWAR and so on… but once you’ve watched this video below, there’s really nothing to say.

Honestly – aside from having to change my pants because I laughed so much, you just have to see this one for yourself. Any description or background I offer will just ruin it for you.

So I guess metal band GWAR decided to team up with Break.com for a video, and decided to make it Christmas themed. That’s all I’m telling you about it because the video on its own is just brilliant, awesome, bloody, and festive. I’m hoping GWAR get some viral mileage out of this.

At any rate, here’s the video. Bring it on! [...]

Blu-ray Review: Inception

Three-D   |

Inception blu-ray

Inception
Blu-ray Combo Pack | DVD
Directed by Christopher Nolan
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Paige, Marion Cotillard, Michael Cain, Cillian Murphy, Ken Watanabe
Warner Bros Home Entertainment
Release date: December 7, 2010

American Beauty had a tagline that instructed us to “look closer.” Apply this instruction to Inception and see what lurks underneath the myriad of descriptions explaining what inception and extraction actually are. Adhering to a more surgical approach to Christopher Nolan’s film we will be granted what truly drives the movie. Looking closer we are no longer misconstrued by the esoteric explanations of dreams, but are firmly grooved along a rail that is undeviating in its approach of getting to the heart of the film: which is the wounded souls of two men who inhabit an unrelenting atmosphere of ceaseless action.

The true meaning of this film isn’t about penetrating through multiple layers of dreams, nor is it about an espionage heist. Inception, as psychologically brilliant as it is, is even more potent when it reveals that it has a heart; a heart so beaten down to a wounded mass that it is thriving to be resuscitated. It is this kind of heart that takes the film past the esoteric and psychological realms of excessive commotion and into the heights of the masses who can empathize with what it is like to have a heart that feels it cannot be mended. Here is Nolan channeling a universal theme of extreme grief. We are swimming in a pool of grief the entire span of the film (the brooding soundtrack is evidence). Hearts want to mend the past, dissipate the regret pervading its existence and get revenge on things eating away at it. Nolan created a character that had intact these same motivations in his hallmark film Memento. That film and Inception reveal men disconcerted with their current way of living, motivated by past events and regrets that have the potential to drive them mad [...]

Mondo & Sideshow Collectibles Join Forces For ‘Tron’ Inspired Posters

The Movie God   |

Popular specialty poster-makers, Mondo, the art boutique branch of the famed Alamo Drafthouse cinema, has officially announced a brand new partnership with Sideshow Collectibles to deliver even more of their highly sought after posters.

The first in the series of new posters is inspired from Walt Disney’s Tron universe, with one print devoted to the original film and a second devoted to the brand new sequel, Tron: Legacy, which hits theaters this Friday.

These specialty Tron posters are crafted by artist Eric Tan, and capture both movies in perfect pop cult art harmony. Better yet, both of them glow in the dark!

You can see both of these new Tron posters by clicking on over to the other side now.

Here’s what the artist had to say about the two posters, and his inspiration for their creation:

When creating posters for each of the Tron films, what immediately came to mind were the parallels between the two worlds and how it had progressed over the years. Since similar elements such as disks, light cycles, and recognizers exist in both, I thought showing the contrast between new and old was a visually interesting angle to play up. [...]

Convention Report: Wizard World Atlanta 2010

The Geeks of Doom   |

Wizard World Atlanta Comic Con

Earlier this month was the Wizard Comic-Con Atlanta, which took place on December 3 and 4 at the Cobb Galleria Convention Center. This convention was formerly known as the Atlanta Comic Expo which Wizard purchased and added to the Wizard convention scene. This was Wizards’ second attempt to run a Con in Atlanta, and overall it seemed to be well received by the local attendees under the new name. The Wizard Comic-Con Atlanta had a variety of guests spanning all genres from television to wrestling, including Adam West, Burt Ward, Henry Winkler, Billy Dee Williams, Vivica Fox, Mimi Rogers, Pam Grier, Richard Roundtree, Linda Blair, and Ernie Hudson.

With this event being in Atlanta, there was the unique option to have a panel for The Walking Dead, which is film in the city. The panel featured Chandler Riggs who plays Carl, as well as about 15 of the actors who portrayed the Walkers (zombies). The actors answered fan questions as well as shared some stories about their time on the set. The Wizard staff member who introduced the panel did announce that this was the most well attended panel of the convention [...]

Amazing Video Showcases 270 Films Of 2010

The Movie God   |

This video has been going around this week, and if you’ve yet to see it you simply must do so right this very moment.

The filmography comes from a video editor named Gen I, who masterfully fuses together 270 various films from the year 2010 into a 6-minute celebration of the art.

The clips from these many movies come at you in quickfire fashion, but they all feel like they belong together. Accompanied by well-chosen songs, the video plays brilliantly and might just be better than many of the movies that it features. And speaking of the bad movies — though you may have zero interest in seeing them, the clips used here still find a way to feel oh-so-right.

These are the things that remind us why we love movies so very much; if it doesn’t serve you this reminder, you may very well not have a soul. This video will inspire you to do great things, and leave you with a grand smile on your face to boot.

Click on over to the other side right away to see the video immediately, and plan to watch it multiple times. [...]

First Trailer For ‘Fast And The Furious 5′ Shows Up Online

The Movie God   |

For those of you who still care about the Fast and the Furious franchise, there is a fifth movie on the way being called Fast Five, and now you can watch a trailer for the movie here and now if you so choose to.

The movie brings together stars of previous chapters of the franchise including Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Ludacris. Joining the cast is Dwayne Johnson as an intimidating cop on the heels of the elusive street racing group, who have plans of pulling off one more major job before disappearing forever.

There is a strong feeling of overkill with this franchise going into a fifth adventure, though it is impressive that the stars of the movies have generally stuck around for more…despite whatever your personal feelings for these flicks are. And judging by this new trailer, anyone who has loved and stayed faithful to the movies is in for another major adrenaline-fueled thrill ride, while the rest of you will see more of the expected explosions, chases, and high-speed shenanigans. Jon Favreau Tells Marvel He Won’t Be Directing ‘Iron Man 3′

The Movie God   |

While many comic book movie fans have been excited to see where things might go in Iron Man 3, some potentially devastating news has now entered into the equation.

Director Jon Favreau has informed Marvel Studios that, sadly, he will not be returning to helm the next installment. Favreau showed his skills with movies like Elf and Zathura, but really became a top-tier directing talent with Iron Man in 2008, and expanded upon that success with Iron Man 2 in 2010. The movies thrived at the box office, bringing in well over a billion dollars worldwide, making a third film all-but-guaranteed.

The mystery to this news remains to be why exactly Favreau has chosen to walk away from the franchise. It’s said that there have been many disputes between the director and Marvel as to both financial compensation and creative choices, and that one or both of these reasons could be primary factors in the shocking decision. Get Your First Look At Gameplay Footage From ‘Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception’

The Movie God   |

Just a few days ago, the announcement trailer for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception made its debut at the Spike TV Video Game Awards. The trailer was mostly cinematic, but did offer some very brief gameplay teases toward the end.

Thankfully for we the fans, Naughty Dog, the game studio behind the immensely popular series that includes Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, isn’t waiting around patiently to show more of their new game off. Co-presidents Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra were guest on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon recently, and they brought with them some real, solid gameplay footage to let the host try out.

We’ll still have to wait a little longer to really see how the game will look overall due to the fact that this gameplay is set inside a burning building, but it’s an intense burning building sequence and promises that the game will keep up the brilliance of the previous two installments.

Click on over to the other side now to get your first look at gameplay footage from Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception! [...]

68th Annual Golden Globe Award Nominations Released

The Movie God   |

Oh yes, ladies and gentlemen, it is indeed that time of year again already.

The nominations for the 68th annual Golden Globe awards have been revealed to the world in a press release from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

The Globes have developed a reputation for glorifying the major stars and titles of Hollywood, and as you’ll see (Alice in Wonderland? Huh?), this is still fairly accurate. Still, you’ll surely find plenty to like about this year’s nominees to go along with any quarrels.

Be sure to click on over to the other side right away to take a look at the full list of nominees for this year’s Golden Globe awards.

The only thing really jumping out to me is the lack of True Grit. I’ve heard nothing but gushing praise for the movie, and the Coen brothers are perennial nominees of the various larger awards ceremonies. It will be interesting to see how these compare to the upcoming Academy Award nominees.

Share your thoughts on the nominees and who you think might have been snubbed this year in the comments below! [...]

Mekhi Phifer Set As Lead On ‘Torchwood: The New World’

cGt2099   |

Torchwood

The Torchwood news continues to trickle onto the web, with the announcement that Mekhi Phifer from the series Lie To Me, will be joining the cast of Torchwood: The New World. He will be set as a lead character to act opposite John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness) and Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper) in the upcoming fourth series.

Phifer will be playing a CIA agent named Rex Matheson, who Deadline points out is “a fast-tracked high-flyer with a lethal sense of humor who starts to feel his mortality when his life is put in danger.” It is unclear at this point whether he is allied with Torchwood or otherwise.

Torchwood: The New World is a joint venture between BBC and Starz USA that will see the series move out from its Cardiff, Wales, setting into a more international focus. Filming and production is said to include the UK, the United States, and Canada, under direction from showrunner Russell T. Davies [...]

‘Doctor Who Experience’ Combines Exhibition With Interactive Adventure

cGt2099   |

The Doctor Who Experience

Doctor Who fans in the UK have an exciting treat heading their way, in the form of The Doctor Who Experience, a huge exhibition set at London’s Olympia 2. The event is said to be an interactive journey through the history of Doctor Who, both as a look at the evolution of the television show since 1963, and also an in-universe look at the history of the Doctor and his TARDIS.

But it’s the interactive part of the experience that sounds intriguing. Basically, for about 90 minutes of the exhibition, you are one of the Doctor’s companions following a scripted adventure that also features the visual effects and the creatures, and you even get to go inside the TARDIS. Matt Smith, the eleventh incarnation of the Doctor, has filmed special scenes for this part of the Doctor Who Experience.

On the exhibition side of things, all of the original Doctor costumes will be on display, Tom Baker‘s TARDIS police box will be there, and there will be two additional TARDIS interior sets from the eras of Peter Davison (the fifth Doctor) and David Tennant (the tenth doctor) [...]
