Movie Review: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Directed by Michael Apted
Starring Ben Barnes, Skandar Keynes, and Georgie Henley
Fox 2000 Pictures and Walden Media
Release Date: December 10, 2010
With the holidays quickly approaching, what better way to spend a night with the family than by going out and catching a movie. This weekend marks for right now, the final release in the Narnia series with The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Out of these three movies, the second one is the only one without a December release date. I have never read the books, but I have always been fascinated with the concept of these tales of faraway lands filled with both mythical and mystical creatures, and the variety of everything else as well. It makes me wonder the differences between the books and the movies. (Maybe one day I will get around to reading them, there is seven total).
This movie begins with us seeing Britain enlisting men for World War II, and Edmund (Skandar Keynes) wanting to enlist. His younger sister Lucy (Georgie Henley) finds him and gets him out of there so they can head home [...]

Book Review: ‘The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader’ Enhanced eBook

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
The Chronicles Of Narnia
By C.S. Lewis
Enhanced eBook
Price: $9.99
Platform: iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch
HarperCollins
Release date: October 26, 2010
With The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader movie out in theaters this weekend, it’s a great time to go back and read the classic C.S. Lewis story in this brand new Enhanced eBook edition recently released by HarperCollins for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch handheld devices.
Dawn Treader has always been one of my favorite Narnia books, so I’ve read it in print, but then I also purchased the Kindle edition when I got that device. It’s a quick read, so I found it very easy to get through in ebook format. Now I’ve also read this Enhanced eBook edition, which has full-color illustrations and is packed with lots of interactive features, on my iPad through iBooks and found it even more enjoyable.
Enhanced eBooks are relatively new on the market, and I don’t think they’re really on anyone’s radar at this time, but I’m hoping that will change, as publishers are getting more creative in how they put these eBooks together. I love illustrated books, so being able to read this with full-color illustrations was a real treat. Also, double-tapping the images enlarges them, which was a nice bonus [...]

Lots Of New Images From ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’

A slew of new images have been released by Disney for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the continuance of their multi-billion dollar juggernaut franchise.
The images show off what looks like a Pirates of the Caribbean movie, as you might expect them to. You’ll see some Johnny Depp as his now iconic character, Captain Jack Sparrow, as well as peeks at Penelope Cruz as lady of Sparrow’s past, Angelica, and her father, the feared Blackbeard (Ian McShane).
The movie is directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha), and is set for release on May 20, 2011.
You can see the new set of images by heading on over to the other side now!
With these new images and less than a year before the movie is released, a trailer is also surely soon to come, so don’t wander too far away! Many people grew sick of the movies before the third one even arrived, but for the rest of us who never get sick of these fun and fantastical pirate adventures, the trailer and movie can’t come soon enough. New ‘Venom’ On-Going Series Coming In March
 |
Posted by Henchman21 | December 10th, 2010 at 5:06 pm |

Everyone’s favorite symbiote is getting a new series thanks to writer Rick Remender and artist Tony Moore.
That’s right, Venom is getting another ongoing series this March from Marvel Comics so you better get ready. The series will feature the creative team of Remender and Moore, the pair having previously teamed up on Fear Agent and Franken-Castle, and it’s a pairing that has created some great comics together, so I’m more excited to see that than I am the particular character of the book.
According to Marvel, the series will see the alien entity that is one of Spider-Man’s deadliest enemies joining with a new host that is familiar to fans who is then forced to work with the government. The new series was masterminded by Amazing Spider-Man writer Dan Slott and editor Steve Wacker, and was then handed off to Remender to flesh out. Slott will set up the series in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man 654.1 in February (part of Marvel’s Point One series), and will continue in Venom #1 [...]

Movie Review: Lemmy
 |
Posted by Obi-Dan | December 10th, 2010 at 2:52 pm |

Lemmy
Directed by Greg Olliver, Wes Orshoski
Starring Lemmy, Dave Grohl, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich, Robert Trujillo, Henry Rollins, Scott Ian, Billy Bob Thornton, Ozzy Osbourne
Damage Case Films
Released: December 7, 2010 (Limited UK)
He is ex of psychedelic space-rockers Hawkwind, master of many a collaboration, a skilled lyricist, and the bass-playing gravel-voiced leader of the neverending metal machine that is Motörhead. He is Lemmy, the ‘baddest motherfucker in the world’.
Lemmy describes the music that influences you the most as the stuff you listened to when you were 20 that knocked you out. For many, like me, that was Motörhead. Although I was nearer the age of 10 and my dad let me watch an episode of the chaotic comedy The Young Ones in which each week they would have a musical ‘guest’ where a band would play a song in the young ones’ house while all hell was breaking loose in cutaways. While Rick, Vyvyan, Mike, and Neil made their way to the train station to make an appearance on University Challenge, a man in shades with long hair played the greatest song my pre-teen ears had ever heard: “Ace Of Spades.”
The man who can’t sing, but no one can sing like him, became a fascination. Onstage Lemmy hardly moves but is a frighteningly captivating and charismatic performer. Lemmy’s book, White Line Fever is a great read of some of the most unbelievable drug stories and one incredible rock and roll life. He never tells his drug stories in any kind of salacious way. It is honest; it is what it is [...]

Awesome ‘The ABC’s of Heavy Metal’ Poster

Looking for ways to teach your child the alphabet? Well, allow me to direct your attention to this very awesome poster titled “The ABC’s of Heavy Metal,” which makes the alphabet out of various heavy metal band logos.
Check out the poster image here at right (click for larger full view).
This 18″ x24″ art print, by Aye Jay, comes in a hand-numbered edition of 80 and is available here for $25. The two-color image is printed on metallic silver currency paper.
There’s also a version that’s the same size that’s printed on a sheet of metal stainless steel for a super limited edition of 10. That’s so metal!!! Another variant is the Glam Metal edition, which looks real cool, but “glam” doesn’t apply to the bands represented on this print. The glam metal edition is on black paper with metallic gold ink and “a righteous split fountain” and is limited to 20.
It took me all of 60 seconds to figure out which band logos 21 of the 26 letters came from. It wasn’t too difficult considering I’d spent a good portion of my teen years drawing these same band logos all over my school notebooks, folders, and binders.
Can you guess which bands are represented in this poster?
I’ve put my choices here below, with an asterisk next to the ones I didn’t know right away [...]

Watch Now: Trailer For Douglas Adams’ ‘Dirk Gently’ Inspired By Doctor Who
 |
Posted by cGt2099 | December 10th, 2010 at 11:54 am |

As many of you know, while he was working on the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams cut his teeth and refined his craft with the crew of Doctor Who, back when Tom Baker was portraying the fourth incarnation of the Doctor. Adams served as script editor for the series, and also is credited as writing a few episodes of the show.
One of the most infamous episodes written by Adams was once called Shada. This Doctor Who serial was never completed or fully broadcast due to industrial action and protests that happened at the time.
Where am I going with this? Well, as it turns out, the BBC is about to launch a new show called Dirk Gently; which is based on the novels Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul written by Douglas Adams. These two novels, in part, form the basis of the unaired Shada episode of Doctor Who.
Essentially, what happened was Adams decided to take the concepts he really enjoyed from the unaired episode and created a whole new adventure focusing on the detective known as Dirk Gently [...]

Mark Waid Steps Down As BOOM! Studios CCO
 |
Posted by Henchman21 | December 10th, 2010 at 10:52 am |

BOOM! Studios announced yesterday that Chief Creative Officer Mark Waid has decided to step down from that position in order to refocus on his writing.
Waid, who was promoted to CCO this past Summer, originally took the job of Editor In Chief at BOOM! in 2007, and leaves the company in a much stronger place than when he joined it. Under Waid’s tenure as EIC, the company expanded its presence in the comics market and launched its successful BOOM Kids! line of books featuring many characters from both Disney and Pixar. BOOM! also increased the number of licensed books published, with titles like 28 Days Later and Die Hard: Year One. Waid himself added several successful titles by writing Irredeemable and Incorruptible. Finally, the company was able to launch three titles created by Stan Lee, one of which, The Traveler, was also written by Waid. Mark Waid will continue to write the all three of the books he is currently working on: Irredeemable, Incorruptible, and The Traveler [...]

Paul McCartney Performs ‘Yesterday’ Parody ‘Scrambled Eggs’ With Jimmy Fallon

Music legend Paul McCartney made an appearance last night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, where he performed two songs.
You can watch both performances here below.
The first video has host Jimmy Fallon singing a duet with McCartney called “Scrambled Eggs” sung to the tune of The Beatles hit “Yesterday.” McCartney has always said that “Scrambled Eggs” were the words he used as a placeholder when he came up with the melody for “Yesterday,” so this rendition has the original placeholder lyrics, never performed before. (I particularly like the verse about the Tofu Wings.) Fallon did a great job singing along for this very humorous version.
McCartney also played “Here Today,” in honor of his friend and former bandmate, the late John Lennon, who was killed 30 years ago December 8. The song is about what he would say to his friend if he were still alive today [...]

Adidas Unveils Their ‘Tron: Legacy’ Clothing Line

The Walt Disney Company and Adidas have teamed up to deliver a specialty clothing line inspired by director Joseph Kosinski‘s visually stunning futuristic sequel, Tron: Legacy.
This special collection features a bunch of jackets, t-shirts, hoodies, and more, many of which are either glow-in-the-dark or 3D. Everything well-represents the Tron style, and anyone who wants to go all-out when they go to see it when it’s released next week should find some wild wardrobe combinations here.
You can check out some of these Tron-inspired clothes by clicking on over to the other side, and see more by heading to Adidas’s website.
As you can see in the image below, it appears that they also have some footwear available, but for some reason those are not on the Adidas site along with everything else.
