Geek Peek: First Look At Andrew Garfield As Spider-Man!

The Movie God   |

The very first official image of Andrew Garfield in (almost) full costume as the web-slinging superhero, Spider-Man, has been released by Sony Pictures and Columbia Pictures, and it may just ease any worries you might have.

Spider-Man, which is directed by (500) Days of Summer helmer Marc Webb, is the fastest reboot of a major film property we’ve seen. It was decided to start over after things went south on the production of Spider-Man 4 just a little over a year ago to this day. Not long after that, we found out that Sony would be doing another origins story, starting with Peter Parker in high school before obtaining his powers instead of picking up with a new story within the mythos. This news was frowned upon even further when fans heard that 27-year-old Garfield was cast in the role, making his teenage character harder to swallow (even though Tobey Maguire was right around the same age at the time).

Now, with the arrival of this new image of Garfield in his Spidey suit (without the mask, sadly), all skepticism and worry should be calmed. The actor looks perfectly fine as the hero, and the suit looks pretty fantastic…albeit beat up. You can see the full image right now by continuing on below and clicking away.

This is just the first glimpse, of course, and until we see a trailer and Garfield in full gear, it will be tough to really know how excited to be for Spider-Man. But if this image is any indication, things are going just fine and everyone involved seems to be backing up this highly criticized decision to insta-reboot the franchise.

It’s also worth noting the golden objects attached under the wrists of this costume, spotted by a reader at Collider. It’s assumed that these are web-shooting devices attached by Peter Parker but I’m not familiar enough with the comics to know any better. Take them as you will!

What do you think of the first peek of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man?

Thank you, Sony, for not taking the opportunity in the reboot to get rid of the fish scale suit and make something a teenager could feasibly sew himself.

    Looks lame.

    Not too sure about this.
