It’s gotten to a point where we may just not have a clue what’s going on with director Ridley Scott‘s return to science fiction, Prometheus, until we see it with our own eyes…much like was the case with Scott’s take on Robin Hood, which saw many strange rumors and rumblings lead us all over the place during production.
Because no one likes to be screwed around with when it comes to movie news — we all just want to know accurate details, not random rumors — we’ll try and ease it back on said rumors and keep it to only things that seem solid in regards to Prometheus from here on out. That said, those of you who have been closely following this movie’s progress should be interested in hearing this last bit of he said, she said.
Last we had heard, Ridley’s planned prequel to Alien had grown past its prequel status through a draft written by Damon Lindelof and evolved into its own unique movie titled Prometheus, which was said to contain only traces of Alien‘s DNA. This was exciting to some who didn’t want to see a prequel, and disappointing to those who were excited to see what Scott would come up with.
While this may end up being the case, others seem to think we’re being toyed with a bit. According to Sky Movies, a source has told them that there will be heavy Alien elements fused into the Prometheus mythos. The source told them that H.R. Giger‘s (who is working on the project with Scott) alien creatures will not only be in the movie, but that they’re actually “integral to the plot.”
It was also noted that Michael Fassbender, who was just cast in the movie as an android, will be playing a model that has ties to Bishop (played by Lance Henricksen)…though don’t embrace that one too much yet. Bishop entered the franchise after Ridley’s first chapter, so that would be a strange connection to make.
The source also went to explain that the Alien DNA Scott said we’d see in Prometheus actually meant DNA. It’s said that part of the story will involve an archeological dig that uncovers the DNA, which gives the crew the coordinates to the alien homeworld.
So there you have it — back to square one we go. At the moment, all that really matters is that Ridley Scott is indeed making a new science fiction film, to be his first since Blade Runner. Whether or not it’s an Alien prequel, and how deeply the storylines run together, remains to be seen.
