The Man of Steel has been found for the upcoming Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan, and David Goyer-headed Superman reboot, and the Earth’s mightiest protector is none other than Henry Cavill (Stardust, The Tudors).
Though the British actor has been heavily rumored for the role for quite some time, the confirmation comes as a surprise to a lot of fans, mainly because of his physicality and his lack of American blood. I, for one, believe that if the actor is the best for the role, then that is all that matters.
Director Zack Snyder doesn’t share these fans’ fears, as he gave his thoughts in the official announcement from Warner Brothers.
In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.
I’ve had no problems with the casting of any character affiliated with any of this creative team’s comic book property, which includes films like Snyder’s Watchmen and Nolan’s Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and I don’t plan on second guessing their decisions now.
But what about you guys? Do you feel like Superman should only be played by American actor? Do you love or hate Henry Cavill? Let us know in the comments section below.
The Superman reboot is scheduled for release in December of 2012.
