Step Up 3
Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo
Directed by Jon Chu
Starring Sharni Vinson, Rick Malambri, Adam G. Sevani, Alyson Stoner, Keith Stallworth
Touchstone Pictures
Release Date: December 21, 2010
Full disclosure before I begin this review. I’m a fan of dance. Pretty much any type of dance. Line dancing, ball room dancing, salsa, hip-hop, you name the body gyration and I probably like it. So You Think You Can Dance is a staple in my household and Dance Central is the reason I bought a Microsoft Kinect. I Tivo’d the new Paula Abdul dance show, Live To Dance, the other night. I’ve also enjoyed the previous Step Up films for the very reason they should be enjoyed, THE DANCING.
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk Step Up 3, shall we? Obviously, being titled, Step Up 3, it’s the third installment in the Step Up trilogy (and the first to be shot in 3D). The film follows Moose (Adam Sevani) and Camille Gage (Alyson Stoner) as they head to New York University, the former of whom is majoring in electrical engineering after promising his mother that he would not dance anymore. However, he soon stumbles upon a dance battle, meeting Luke (Rick Malambri) and his House of Pirates dance crew and later teaming up with them to compete in the World Jam dance contest against their rivals, the House of Samurai dance crew [...]

‘BioShock: Rapture’ Gets Release Date; Pre-Order Now!

There’s been a book in the works for a while now from author John Shirley (with an intro chapter by Ken Levine). The book is called BioShock: Rapture, and it was originally planned to be released around the time that BioShock 2, the follow-up to the instant video game classic from 2K Games, hit stores.
Unfortunately the book disappeared for a while, but according to Amazon, it now has a release date and can be pre-ordered right now! And with a visit to Tor Books, the publisher behind the novel, confirmation was discovered: BioShock: Rapture will hit book stores on March 1, 2011. If you want to pre-order the book, you can do so at Amazon (Hardcover, Paperback, Kindle) and get ready to discover the origins of Rapture.
For the most part, novels that present stories set in existing popular video game worlds don’t always do so well. But there have been occasions where a title does really well, such as in the case of Halo, which has seen some popular books follow the various game releases. That said, this particular book sounds like a can’t-miss for fans of BioShock.
You can read a full synopsis of BioShock: Rapture below [...]

Mega Millions Lottery Almost Delivers Hurley’s Cursed ‘LOST’ Numbers

There were a ton of great characters on ABC’s brilliant show, LOST, and they were played by an incredibly talented group of actors. But there were also a few characters on the show that didn’t require actors, and one of them were the infamous cursed numbers.
The numbers first showed up in season one when a flashback revealed that Hurley was actually incredibly rich after hitting the lottery. But after winning this vast amount of wealth, things start to go very, very badly for Hurley, and he becomes convinced that the numbers are cursed. After that, the numbers — 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 — take on a life of their own, and we see them tie deeply into LOST‘s intricate plot as the series moved forward.
As proof of how insanely popular the show became in its time on the air, people all over play these numbers on a regular basis when they take part in the lottery. As you’d expect, this very rarely pays off as, well, what are the chances…right? [...]

See What the Visitors From ‘V’ Really Look Like
 |
Posted by Goodman | January 5th, 2011 at 9:31 pm |

While the second season of ABC’s V premiered to decent ratings last night, the network isn’t slowing down any promotion for its top sci-fi show.
In an exclusive story with USA Today, ABC released an official image that shows exactly what the alien Visitors look like underneath all that human flesh. We’ve included the full image and analysis after the jump for those that want to avoid some major spoilers.
According to the USA Today piece, over the course of the second season’s ten episodes, viewers will get looks and glances at the V’s appearance, but the full alien won’t be unveiled until the season finale. Executive Producer Scott Rosenbaum had this to say on the new look [...]

The CW Releases New ‘Smallville’ Teaser Poster
 |
Posted by Goodman | January 5th, 2011 at 8:12 pm |

On Friday, January 29th, Smallville will begin the run of its final episodes leading up to the Series Finale of what has been the longest-running Superman television show in history and to celebrate this tremendous occasion, The CW released an exclusive poster to the DC Source Blog yesterday morning.
We’ve included the poster here at right (click for larger, full view). While the poster is pretty neat within itself, it has a even bigger surprise if you take a closer look (hint: take a good look at Clark’s reflection).
As the poster clearly states, Destiny is Now for Clark Kent. These final episodes will lead up to a finale which will hopefully see Tom Welling don the iconic Superman suit, thus finally embracing the destiny that he was born to live as he becomes the legendary Man of Steel. From the spoilers and coverage I’ve read online, it sounds like Smallville fans are in for a real treat for these final episodes and I’m eager to see what showrunners Brian Peterson and Kelly Saunders and the rest of the writing staff have in store for us [...]

Homeless Man With “Golden Voice” Finds Happy Ending After Incredible Offers

Earlier today, we shared with you the story that’s been sweeping the country about a homeless man with one of the best radio voices you’ll ever hear, a happy ending has already presented itself.
While doing a lengthy radio interview with WNCI 97.9 in Columbus, Ohio, Ted Williams — now clean-cut and looking in much higher spirits — talked about becoming an overnight sensation and how all he was really humbly looking for was a second chance. The radio DJs that brought him in, Dave & Jimmy, were so inspired by his story that they wanted to get him on the air, and see if they could get any job or work opportunities to come through for Ted. What happened after that was nothing short of amazing.
In the first part, the station fielded some calls from people who had been moved by the story. The first was associated with MTV and wanted to fly Williams out to LA for some work as a guest announcer on one of their shows. Next up came a pair of people who turned out to be two of the top voice over talents working today — even going so far as to show off their talents as the guy we hear on CBS promos and the woman we hear during the Academy Awards telecast — who wanted to offer Williams the chance to compete in a competition to find the next big voice. [...]

Misa Digital ‘TRON’-Style Guitar Now Available For Pre-Order

When we first reported on the Misa Digital Guitar about a year ago, it was a prototype guitar that looked like a Guitar Hero controller with a touch pad, which was indeed an actual musical instrument. [READ: Guitar Hero Eat Your Heart Out – Misa Digital Guitar]
A really cool looking instrument.
In a post-TRON: Legacy pop culture world, I’m more inclined to compare it to something you’d find played in Castor’s EOLC (End of Line Club) rather than a toy you plug into a gaming console.
Misa is now taking pre-orders on two versions of their guitar: The Kitara ($849), which “is crafted with high-density injection-molded ABS polymer, MIDI controller and onboard digital synthesizer with an eight-inch multi-touch screen” and the Kitara Limited Edition ($2,899) that sports a solid aluminum body [...]

Gemma Arterton Joins Jeremy Renner In ‘Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters’

Gemma Arterton has been cast as Gretel in Paramount Pictures’ upcoming action/horror/fantasy sequel to the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel.
The new movie, titled Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, is considered more of a continuation of the tale than a sequel, and sees the siblings many years later, now spending their days as bounty hunters. It also stars Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) as Hansel.
Arterton has been a steadily growing star over the past couple of years with appearances in films like Quantum of Solace, The Disappearance of Alice Creed, Clash of the Titans, and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters will be directed by Tommy Wirkola, the Norwegian talent who’s previous work includes the Nazi zombie horror flick, Dead Snow. Wirkola has promised that his Hansel and Gretel has all sorts of good fun blood and gore and will come with the badge of honor R-rating. [...]

UPDATED! Must See/Hear: Homeless Man With Perfect Radio Voice Hopes For A Second Chance

While this may not be all that fitting to the movies and comics and other geek-related things we cover, radio is a form of media and this is simply too good to ignore.
Recently in Columbus, Ohio, a homeless man named Ted Williams was discovered with a sign saying “I have a God-given gift of voice. I’m an ex-radio announcer who has fallen on hard times. Please! Any help will be gratefully appreciated. Thank you and God bless you.” It was decided to test this man and see if it was all just a ruse to try and make a quick buck. It was not.
The result will absolutely astonish you, perhaps even to a point where you’ll think it’s a dubbed video. If it would have stopped after the first thing he said I would have sworn it was fake, but then it keeps going. Mind. Blown.
The man lets one of the greatest radio voices you’ll ever hear, and makes his case for work in radio, voice over, and other various other areas. [...]

New ‘Godzilla’ To Be Helmed By ‘Monsters’ Director Gareth Edwards

Director Gareth Edwards made quite the climb into the public eye in 2010, and he’s beginning 2011 off in epic fashion.
Edwards is know for making the indie alien invasion film, Monsters, which was produced with only a few people on the cast and crew, and with a tiny budget (though bigger than what was once said to be only around $15,000). The movie made the festival rounds and caught a lot of attention for its look and special effects on such a minuscule budget, and now Edwards is getting major attention from bigger studios.
It’s being reported that Edwards is set to lock up a deal with Legendary Pictures, the banner behind The Dark Knight, 300, and Inception, to direct their brand new re-imagining of classic movie beast, Godzilla. Legendary acquired the rights to the famed Japanese creature in 2010 and has since been putting things together with hopes of releasing their movie at some point in 2012. The hiring of Edwards is the first major ingredient, sure to be followed quickly with a writer and various castings. [...]

Geek Peek: Andrew Garfield As Peter Parker & Emma Stone As Gwen Stacy In ‘Spider-Man’

Some spy images from the set of Sony Pictures and Columbia Pictures reboot of their Spider-Man franchise have shown up online.
Nothing worth going wacky over in these pictures, but if you’re excited about this new Spidey venture and the castings that have been announced so far, these might be for you. They show star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy sitting in some bleachers at what looks like a high school football field. This is the first look at Garfield as Parker and well…it looks like Andrew Garfield hanging out on some bleachers, so perhaps not the best look we’ll get.
You can see some of the first pictures of Garfield and Stone in director Marc Webb‘s Spider-Man by clicking on over to the other side now (more can be found at the source link below). There’s even one of the duo sharing a smooch, you know, for you lovey-dovey type movie fans that are into that sorta thing. [...]

New Edition Of Mark Twain’s ‘Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’ Removes The N-Word

Next month will see the release of NewSouth Books’ Mark Twain’s Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn: The Texts of His Companion Boy Books, which collects the two 19th century classics and revises them to remove an offensive word that, for years now, has been the cause of protests against teaching the books in schools.
The word?: ‘nigger.*’
In NewSouth’s edition, which was revised by Mark Twain scholar Dr. Alan Gribben, all instances of the word ‘nigger’ have been replaced by the word ‘slave’, as has the word ‘injun’, a derogatory term for Native Americans.
Gribben, who is passionate about Twain’s works, told Publishers Weekly he’s not trying to render these works “colorblind,” but that “Race matters in these books. It’s a matter of how you express that in the 21st century.” [...]

Cast Photo For MGM’s ‘Red Dawn’ Remake Surfaces

The first image of the cast of MGM’s ’80s movie remake, Red Dawn, has shown up online. It’s unclear where the picture comes from, when it was taken, or how official it is, but it’s definitely the cast dressed for the part.
In the picture you’ll see some of the stars like Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Edwin Hodge, and Alyssa Diaz as they do their best to mirror stars of the original movie like Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Leah Thomson, Jennifer Grey, and C. Thomas Howell.
You can check out the image of the new cast of Red Dawn as well as an old image from the original for comparison by clicking on over to the other side now!
As many of you know, MGM has faced many financial troubles lately, so no one knows exactly when Red Dawn will be released. But unlike the fear that movies like The Hobbit or the next James Bond would never happen, it’s said that this one is already completed for the most part — just needs to be released. [...]

First Peek At Epic New Starz King Arthur Series ‘Camelot’

It’s a fantastic time to be alive for those of us who feed off TV/movies/games that are set in a time where cars and technology and guns were nonexistent, and people survived by the blade of their sword, the gallop of their horse, and the light of a flame. This is especially true when it comes to TV, where these types of shows weren’t very common.
Now, in a time where the best TV series you can see are on par with (if not better than) the best Hollywood movies being made, we’re beginning to see many more titles in this genre. These types of shows can be found on channels like HBO, Showtime, and Starz, and they don’t restrict or censor their content. Almost anything goes, all is fair, and it’s some of the grittiest, graphic, and most realistic content we as viewers could ask for. It’s hard to even watch regular TV anymore!
Recent and current titles that have fit this mold include HBO’s Rome, Showtime’s The Tudors, and Starz’ Spartacus: Blood and Sand (as well as their mini-series, The Pillars of the Earth), and it does not end there. [...]
