Faith No More: 20th Anniversary Of ‘Live At The Brixton Academy’
 |
Posted by Obi-Dan | February 3rd, 2011 at 11:32 pm |

Faith No More
Live At The Brixton Academy
UK | U.S.
Recorded April 1990
Released February 4, 1991 (UK)
With the help of MTV and its heavy rotation of the video for “Epic,” Faith No More rose to prominence in the late 1980s. The band’s third album, and first with its new lead singer Mike Patton, Real Thing was an instant classic and made heroes of its makers. Duly, the band took the album on tour into the early nineties and chose one show to record for a live album. February 4th marks the 20th anniversary of the Faith No More album Live At The Brixton Academy. Recorded at the famous venue in London, England, it is Faith No More’s only official live album. And what an album it is.
Lead singer Mike Patton is a brilliant performer. At first he seems as if he is not taking it seriously by putting on silly voices at times, but as always his delivery is stunning. He may throw in a quick riff on New Kids On The Block’s “The Right Stuff” during “We Care A Lot,” but he has a voice very, very few rock/metal performers can match (or whatever the hell genre Faith No More fits into, such is the band’s mixture of influences and styles). On the track “The Real Thing” alone he exhibits such vulnerability, rage, and silliness, and easily switches between every type [...]

The design shows the Sesame Street characters as members of The Fantastic Four superhero team, with a background made to look like a FF comic book cover. New Image Of Bucky From ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’

Marvel has released a new image from the forthcoming film Captain America: The First Avenger showing Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and his sidekick Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) walking against a crowd of soldiers on a U.S. Army base.
Whenever I hear the word “sidekick” mentioned within a superhero movie I immediately tense up and have horrible images of Joel Schumacher’s Batman and Robin flash through my mind. Fortunately, having seen the war-hardened expression on Stan’s face made me breathe a sigh of relief.
It seems director Joe Johnston has taken care to see that Bucky has none of the campy, cartoonish stigma we’ve come to expect from sidekicks [...]

Former KISS Drummer Peter Criss To Finally Release Long-Awaited Autobiography
 |
Posted by cGt2099 | February 2nd, 2011 at 5:52 pm |

Original KISS drummer, Peter Criss, has announced that his long-awaited autobiography will be published in late 2012. Under the working title of Makeup to Breakup, the memoir is said to encompass not only the highs and lows of his time with KISS, but also his upbringing and life post-KISS.
Criss first announced his plans for an autobiography back in 1987 in interviews with KISS fanzines around the world. Since that time, little progress has been made with each subsequent time the Catman has discussed the book… however, with this announcement, Criss has got himself a publisher backing the memoir: Scribner.
The Simon and Schuster imprint will publish Makeup to Breakup during Fall 2012, and it will be written with the assistance of Larry “Ratso” Sloman, who is best known for his work on Howard Stern’s books [...]

32nd Anniversary of Punk Rock Legend Sid Vicious’ Death
 |
Posted by Obi-Dan | February 2nd, 2011 at 2:19 pm |

Today commemorates the 32nd anniversary of the death of one of the most infamous musicians in history: Sid Vicious.
Born John Simon Ritchie in London, England, Vicious began his music career in the 1970s appearing in various punk bands around the city. In 1977 he got a huge break when he was asked to play bass guitar for the notorious English punk band, the Sex Pistols.
Punk rock has always been far more about attitude than musical ability; Sid Vicious had little ability, but more than enough attitude. He had the gnarled, dirty look that early punk rock displayed and the snarling, dangerous personality that few genuine punk rockers before or since have been able to emulate. The late 1970s is defined by punk rock and Vicious has always been the poster boy.
He persuaded Motorhead bassist Lemmy to teach him to play, which according to the rock god, was not a success. But Vicious persevered and taught himself to play along to records by the Ramones, reportedly over the course of one night. He could also sing and his version of “My Way” plays over the end credits of Goodfellas [...]

Watch Out For That First Step – It’s Groundhog Day!

It’s Groundhog Day here in the United States, where supposedly if a groundhog sees its shadow on this day, it means six more weeks of Winter; no shadow means an early Spring. While tons of people today are buzzing about the predicted early Spring — courtesy of the most famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil, who did not see his shadow — I love how there are loads of people wishing actor Stephen Tobolowsky a Happy Groundhog Day via his Twitter page.
Tobolowsky starred as Ned Ryerson in the 1993 comedy Groundhog Day, which had Bill Murray as meteorologist Phil Connors, who begrudgingly goes to Punxsutawney, PA, to cover the Groundhog Day festivities, as he does every year. When a blizzard hits the town, Phil gets stuck there overnight and wakes up the next morning to discover that it’s February 2 all over again. This then happens every day, with Phil reliving the events of February 2. Thanks to the film, “Groundhog Day” has become associated with replaying the same events over and over again [...]

Snow White Project ‘Snow And The Seven’ To Be Written By ‘Toy Story 3′ Scribe

We’ve been hearing a little about Snow White and the Huntsman, the upcoming Universal Pictures live-action adaptation of the classic tale currently looking at Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron, and Kristen Stewart for roles. And much like the many Wizard of Oz projects on the way, there are also multiple Snow White movies on the way as well.
Relativity Media has their own take on the story set to be directed by Tarsem Singh, and now Disney, who of course made the 1937 animated classic, has found a writer to craft their own new version. It’s being reported that Michael Ardnt has entered into negotiations with the studio to pen what they’re calling Snow and the Seven…which is quite different than Disney’s animated film.
The story starts off in 19th century Hong Kong, where an Englishwoman has returned to for her father’s funeral. After finding out that her stepmother is up to bad deeds, the woman runs off to mainland China and settles in with a group of seven international warriors. [...]

Warner Brothers Planning To Reboot ‘Fletch’ Franchise

It’s being reported that Warner Brothers has plans in motion to reboot the Fletch franchise.
WB, along with Anonymous Content, recently acquired the rights to the title, which is originally based on the 1974 novel by Gregory McDonald. The hope is to build another whole franchise of Fletch movies, not just one single new movie.
Ten more sequels and prequels to the original book were penned over the years, but Fletch is perhaps best recognized from the 1985 movie adaptation of the same name starring Chevy Chase, which was followed by a sequel in 1989. Another movie/reboot has been talked about for a long time now, with stars like Zach Braff and Jason Lee rumored as potential candidates to become Fletch.
The original story follows Irwin M. Fletcher, an investigative reporter who while undercover as a beach bum is propositioned by a man offering him a great deal of money to kill him, ending his cancer suffering. This leads Fletch to look into the man further, uncovering some interesting things. [...]
