First Look At The ‘Community’ Dungeons & Dragons Episode

This Thursday, the NBC comedy Community will enter the world of Dungeons & Dragons when the gang befriends a loner, inviting him into their group for a game of Advanced D&D.
NBC has released a promo still from the episode, which shows Pierce (Chevy Chase) studying up for the game with a D&D manual. Check out the image here below, along with a synopsis of the episode, including everyone’s D&D character names.
The show’s creator, Dan Harmon, has said that the episode will not see the group dressed in D&D garb or entering some kind of magical fantasy world. Instead, the gang will be gathered around a table, but this is Community — even the shows where they never leave the study room are great.
The episode, titled “Advanced Dungeons & Dragons,” airs on NBC on this Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 8PM ET/PT [...]

New York Comic-Con 2011 Expands To 4 Days

New York Comic-Con is one of the biggest conventions in the United States and the biggest on the east coast, and this year Con attendees will be treated to an extra day, as the Con expands to four days this October.
For 2011, the event will be running Thursday to Sunday, with the first day serving as a preview night, much like the Wednesday night at San Diego Comic-Con. This will accommodate more attendees, as well as more programming for artists, retailers, and exhibitors, as the Con opens to the public for the first time for three full days. This also means more hours for the Cultyard and New York Anime Festival, which was a major draw for cosplayers at the convention center in 2010.
This is a big move considering how young NYCC is, but it shows the growth of the convention since its inception in 2006. The 2011 NYCC will be held from Thursday October 13, 2011 through Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City [...]

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Set To Join ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ … But Who Will He Play?

It’s been expected for quite some time now that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be re-joining his Inception director, Christopher Nolan, when production began on his third chapter in the Batman franchise, titled The Dark Knight Rises.
Now comes word that the actor is in fact in talks to join the cast, which of course features Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne along with new additions Anne Hathaway, who will be playing the latest Catwoman, and Tom Hardy, who after being left a mystery for a while was revealed to be playing Bane.
While Gordon-Levitt is only technically “in talks” at the moment, Deadline hears that he’s fully expected to be there when the movie starts filming in the spring. And because most have assumed he’d be in it in some role or another, this is pretty much a done deal.
But who will Mr. Gordon-Levitt be playing? That, my friends, is the all-crucial question…and at the moment, it’s being kept a secret. [...]

China Uses Clip From ‘Top Gun’ To Show Off Air Force Training

Someone who either has an eagle-eye or is the biggest fan of the movie Top Gun ever to live has spotted something very interesting.
CCTV, a broadcasting station in China, recently did a report on their country’s air forces. The report includes various shots of their aircrafts and even a quick look at a training exercise in which a jet is destroyed by a missile.
Unfortunately for producers of the show, this eagle-eyed super fan (named Liu Yi) points out that the Chinese J-10 fires off its missile and it hits an American F-5 jet…the very same taken out by a one Mr. Tom Cruise in Top Gun, interestingly enough.
You can see a video of the original CCTV newscast below, as well as a second video from the Wall Street Journal that shows the footage side-by-side with Top Gun for everyone to make their own judgments. [...]

Get An Early Look At ‘The Death of Spider-Man’

The Death of Spider-Man begins in the issues of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man and Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates in February.
Marvel is really touting this story as a major game changer for the Ultimate Marvel Universe. Having Spider-Man dead will certainly cause some changes, but will we have this same old story as we’ve had so many times before when heroes die? You know the story: wannabe heroes come out of the woodwork to try and fill the shoes of the fallen hero often even taking his identity. If that’s what the fallout of Spidey’s death, well, that’ll just be boring.
At any rate Marvel has released an image of the variant cover art for issue 157 of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man set for release in April. This is the final issue of the story arc. This variant art was done by Ed McGuiness, who’s currently back on the Hulk series. Check out the cover art below and share your thoughts [...]

Stephen King’s ‘The Stand’ Set For Movie Adaptation

Fans of Stephen King have surely read his popular work, The Stand. Some of you may have even seen the TV miniseries of the same name that was based on the book and aired in 1994. But to this date, a movie adaptation has never existed.
It’s been announced that Warner Brothers and CBS Films are teaming up to bring The Stand to a theater near you with the first feature film adaptation of King’s novel. The studios will develop and produce the movies together while WB will handle all of the marketing and distribution efforts. CBS will also have the option to co-finance the movie, as well.
At the moment, no talent is attached to the project, and it’s unclear what King’s involvement in the development might be (though he is expected to take part). It’s planned everyone will chat with potential writers and directors in the coming weeks to determine who will face the arduous tasks of adapting the 823-page book (or perhaps the 1,141-page uncut version?) into a 120-150-minute movie, and who will put it all to screen competently. [...]

MP3 Album Deal: Manowar’s Sign Of The Hammer

Right now Amazon is running a deal on the MP3 version of Manowar‘s Sign Of The Hammer album for only $3.68!
I just happened upon this sale, so I don’t know how long it will last, but seriously, if you like metal and you do not own this album, grab this now!!!
Sign Of The Hammer, which was released in 1984, is one of my favorite metal albums ever, so I’m highly recommending it, especially since you can get all 8 songs for under four bucks — that’s a steal. Buying the songs separately would be around 10 bucks; the CD is $12.19.
Note, if you purchase MP3s through Amazon, it downloads into your iTunes account, so it’s as simple as purchasing directly through iTunes. Also, you can now gift these MP3 purchases – just click the “Give album or song as gift” button on the right on the product page [...]
