‘X-Men’ Star Famke Janssen To Be Hunted In ‘Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters’

The Movie God   |

It’s being reported that Famke Janssen (X-Men, House on Haunted Hill) has signed on to join the cast of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, the updated sequel of sorts to the old German fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel.

Janssen is set to play the leader of a group of witches who have their hands full with the brother and sister duo of Hansel and Gretel. The story takes place 15 years after the siblings were lured to a wonderful and inviting gingerbread house by a vile witch with plans of cooking and eating them. After escaping their close encounter with the witch, the pair grow up bent on vengeance and ultimately become bounty hunters set on finding and destroying all witches.

Not too long ago, it was reported that Hansel and Gretel would be played by Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Town) and Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace, Clash of the Titans). [...]

Music Review: Motörhead – The World Is Yours

Obi-Dan   |

Motörhead
The World Is Yours
Producer Cameron Webb
Future PLC/Motörhead Music
Release date: January 17 (UK) | February 8 (U.S.) 2011

In 1975 Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister was fired from British space-rock group Hawkwind. He wasted no time in getting back on the music horse and quickly formed a new three-piece band which almost as a direct opposite to Hawkwind was loud, fast, and if it moved in next door to you ‘your lawn would die’. Lemmy continued to play the bass (despite having no experience when he joined Hawkwind four years earlier) and a suitable name was chosen. Sadly Lemmy was persuaded against calling his new band Bastard and changed it to the infinitely superior Motörhead.

An incredible 36 years later Motörhead is still going and continues to record new albums at an admirable rate. The World Is Yours is Motörhead’s 20th studio album and sounds as fresh as the first [...]

New ‘Call Of Juarez’ Game Announced … Set In Modern Los Angeles

The Movie God   |

Before Red Dead Redemption arrived, very few western games existed, let alone ones that could be enjoyed. Red Dead took it to an entirely different level — something that western fans have been itching to get their hands on for a long while now — but before its arrival only a couple were worth even trying out, including GUN and the duo of Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood.

The Call of Juarez games and GUN certainly aren’t anything that were bound for video game supremacy, but if you’re as much of a sucker for westerns as I am, they’re a ton of fun. Great western settings, stories, and of course music, were all that was needed to offer up a worthwhile gaming experience in the old west.

When Red Dead did arrive and showed how incredible and magnificent a western game could be, one could have assumed that it would push those planning to make their own western games or sequels to existing franchises such as the ones mentioned above to make the biggest and best games they could make. But is that the case? [...]

Interview With Chad Lindberg, Star Of 2010′s ‘I Spit On Your Grave’

Culturesmash   |

I Spit On Your Grave 2010

The original I Spit On Your Grave was easily one of the most controversial films of the 1970s. The plot was simple: a young woman is raped by a group of men and she takes revenge on said rapists. It’s a story that has been told over and over, but this particular version of the story was one of the most visceral and disturbing tellings of that story ever. In 2010, the movie was remade and it hit festivals garnering a similar reaction to the first film. The unrated version of the 2010 I Spit on Your Grave comes to DVD and Blu-ray on February 8.

I sat down for a one-on-one chat with one of the stars, Chad Lindberg, to discuss his experiences making this film and watching it [...]

Watch Wayne & Garth Reunite For ‘Wayne’s World’ On SNL

Wayne's World - SNL

Saturday Night Live alum Dana Carvey came back to the late night sketch show this past Saturday to host the show.

Carvey had a lot of great characters as an SNL castmember from 1986 to 1993, like The Church Lady and Hans the bodybuilder (who wants to pump… you up), but the comedian is best known for playing long-haired metalhead Garth Algar, co-host of the Aurora, Illinois, cable access show Wayne’s World (party time, excellent!). To open Saturday’s show, Carvey reunited with his Wayne’s World counterpart Mike Myers for a special Oscar Picks episode.

Super Bowl Trailer For Steven Spielberg’s Dinosaur Series ‘Terra Nova’

The Movie God   |

If you’re one of the millions and millions who watched last night’s Super Bowl, you saw the many commercials and movie trailers that were shown off. And if you didn’t watch, you can see all of the big trailers right here at Geeks of Doom, of course.

Another big first look was also shown last night, but this time it was for an upcoming TV series: Terra Nova. The show comes from executive producer Steven Spielberg, and tells the story of a family who travel back in time 85 million years through a portal created by scientists in the year 2149, where life on Earth is facing extinction. The family goes through the portal to the first human colony — called Terra Nova — where they will attempt to set humankind off in a better direction, but will have to deal with some major obstacles, including dinosaurs.

You can see the first trailer for Terra Nova, which is set to debut this fall on Fox, by clicking on over to the other side now! [...]

See The Boy Behind The Darth Vader Mask In ‘The Force’ Commercial

Empress Eve   |

Volkswagen Star Wars commercial

One of the most talked-about Super Bowl commercials last night was the one for Volkswagen called “The Force” which showed a small child dressed as Star Wars villain Darth Vader, attempting to use The Force to move objects around the house.

The commercial got everyone buzzing, wondering, who is the child behind the mask. The actor appeared on this morning’s Today Show, lifting the mask to reveal an adorable 6-year-old blond boy named Max Page.

Watch the video of little Max on The Today Show here below, and learn about the struggles he’s had to endure so far in his short life. There’s no doubt we’ll be routing for him!

The TV spot shown during the game was a truncated version of the commercial, which I guess did its job in getting the word out about the car (which, honestly, I couldn’t tell you which model it was for), but failed to convey the heart that the full version did. You can watch the full one-minute commercial here [...]

Cobie Smulders To Join S.H.I.E.L.D. In Joss Whedon’s ‘Avengers’?

Culturesmash   |

Cobie Smulders - Maria Hill

In a recent interview Samuel L. Jackson revealed that he would be reading as Nick Fury in auditions with actresses for an unspecified role in The Avengers. The logical assumption for any comic book fan is that the role must be for Maria Hill, the ruthless hero-hating soldier that eventually took the role of leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. from Fury. Deadline has confirmed those fan boy assumptions.

Deadline reports that Cobie Smulders, best known for her role as Robin Scherbatsky on the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, is nearing a deal to take the role. Avengers director Joss Whedon actually considered Smulders for the role of Wonder Woman during his short stint working on that project [...]

The Beatles Invaded America 47 Years Ago Today

The Geeks of Doom   |

The Beatles

February 7, 1964: Beatlemania Begins

It was a cold February day at the newly-renamed John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City. At about 1:20PM, Pan Am flight 101 landed to the excitement of the 3,000 screaming fans who had been waiting patiently all morning. Four young lads from Liverpool, England, were about to step onto U.S. soil and change the world forever. The Beatles had arrived in America. The British Invasion had begun.

Timing played a huge role in the Beatles success in the United States. It’s easy to forget that when the Fab Four arrived, Americans were still mourning the loss of their slain President John F. Kennedy, who had been shot down less than three months prior. Violence in Vietnam was escalating rapidly. The country desperately needed a distraction from the harsh realities they had been made to face [...]
