Watch Now: McBain Clips From ‘The Simpsons’ Form Short Movie

Anyone who’s seen The Simpsons should recognize McBain, the animated action movie star parody of a one Arnold Schwarzenegger.
What fans of the long-running show might not know, however, is that when these McBain clips from The Simpsons are fused together, they actually form their own little short movie called McBain: The Movie.
The micro-flick only runs at about four minutes in length, but is quite the amusing spoof on the action movie genre and a must-see for fans of the show.
You can see McBain: The Movie by heading on over to the other side now. [...]

[Updated] Legendary Guitarist Gary Moore Has Died
 |
Posted by Obi-Dan | February 6th, 2011 at 1:46 pm |

Rock and blues guitarist Gary Moore has died at aged 58. It was revealed on Planet Rock radio earlier today that Moore was found dead in his hotel room in Spain in the early hours of Sunday morning. No cause of death has been revealed at this time.
Born Robert William Gary Moore in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on April 4, 1952, Moore was a prolific guitar player. Since the late 1960s, Moore contributed to many musical projects and had three spells as lead guitarist in rock band Thin Lizzy playing on their classic album, Black Rose.
Known to many as an exceptional rock guitarist and most famous for his 1979 hit “Parisienne Walkways,” Moore was also a highly respected and talented blues player. Much of his twenty-plus catalogue of solo studio albums and live albums reflect this.
My favourite performance of Gary Moore’s was on an old BBC2 music show called ‘The Old Grey Whistle Test’. In 1976. he appeared with his Thin Lizzy bandmates Phil Lynott, Scott Gorham, and Brian Downey. Billed as Gary Moore & Friends they performed a stunning version of Thin Lizzy’s “Don’t Believe A Word,” the video of which I have included below. At the 2:40 mark, the video simultaneously demonstrates how incredibly talented Moore was and how tight this band was [...]

TV Review: Young Justice

Young Justice
Featuring the voices of Jessie McCartney, Danica McKellar, and Nolan North
Cartoon Network
Monday Nights
Premiere Date: January 7, 2011
I think 2011 is probably the perfect time to be a comics fan. From blockbuster movies, direct-to-DVD movies, and even TV shows, people everywhere can’t seem to get enough of the superhero genre. So it should be no surprise then that along with the movie or TV show, there has to be a superhero cartoon out there. Marvel has already kicked off the new wave of cartoons with the Avengers and the soon to debut Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. DC, not wanting to be left out in the cold, plans to bring to the table Green Lantern later in the year and just recently out their newest series, Young Justice, to the Cartoon Network.
Young Justice follows the escapades of some of the sidekicks in the DC Universe. Comprised of Robin, Kid Flash, Superboy, Aqualad, and Miss Martian, the groups struggles with working together as team, living up to the expectations, and just dealing with teenage hormones. Teen Titans they are definitely not [...]

 |
Posted by cGt2099 | February 5th, 2011 at 3:22 pm |

William Shatner is working on another music project, and this time it’s all about metal. Following a “space” theme, and titled Seeking Major Tom, Shatner is joining forces with some major hard rock icons for the new project, which is set to be released later this year. Essentially, the release is a covers album, but with covers brought together to tell the story of a concept album.
So far, Shatner has collaborated with Brian May (Queen), Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne/Black Label Society), Peter Frampton, Ian Paice (Deep Purple), and Steve Howe (Yes). Seeking Major Tom is said to be a collection of 18 “rock anthems” reinterpreted to tell the story that Shatner is putting forward on the album [...]

 |
Posted by cGt2099 | February 5th, 2011 at 2:17 pm |

Doctor Who has a legacy that spans almost 50 years, and has captivated the minds and attention of fans from the very beginning of the show. The series has since become a cultural staple in the UK and an aspect of Whovian lore that has the attention of many fans is the history of the show behind the scenes and during its evolution through the years.
Loup_Dargent recently dropped us a line and drew our attention to a collection of some classic black-and-white photographs from the history of Doctor Who behind the scenes — some of which have not even been posted on BBC sources.
The collection of photos range from the Sixties to the Seventies with a focus on Daleks, and includes First Doctor William Hartnell, and Third Doctor Jon Pertwee. There are even a couple pics of Peter Cushing‘s Doctor as well.
Here are a few samples below. Be sure to click them to head over and see them at Loup Dargent’s site in their full sizes [...]

Watch ‘Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan’ Recreated In 60 Seconds

Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan is my second favorite movie of all time (after The Empire Strikes Back), so this video caught my attention right away.
YouTube user Mawgan has recreated Star Trek II in just 60 seconds using paper card puppets, and the results are spectacular.
Watch the video here below.
This is my entry for the Empire Done in 60 Seconds 2011 competition… I used a combination of card puppets that I designed, cut out and stuck together (which were shot on green screen) and then drew computer backgrounds/objects which were placed behind/in front with effects added (simple ones!). [...]

Geek Gear: Top Gun Shirt ‘Negative Ghost Rider’

The t-shirt deal of the day over at RIPT Apparel is a Top Gun-inspired shirt called “Negative Ghost Rider.”
The tee, by artist Matt Leyen, went on sale at RIPT today, Saturday, February 5, 2011, at midnight CST, and will continue for 24 hours from then, and once it’s over, it will not be sold on the site anymore.
The design is based on dialog from Top Gun, but you don’t need to be a fan of the film to dig the shirt, it’s cute enough on its own and quite obscure. The image is of a ghost riding a bicycle saying “I hate this bike” cuz he’s negative — get it?! [...]

5 Questions For Matt Reeves, Director Of ‘Let Me In’ and ‘Cloverfield’

Let the Right One In was one of the most critically acclaimed genre films of 2009 and it remains one of the most unique vampire stories of this era. The only issue is that it’s a foreign film, so yes American audiences have to read subtitles in order to enjoy the film. So what’s the solution? Obviously it’s to remake the film domestically. It’s not necessarily the right solution, but it’s Hollywood’s solution. It seems that redoing such a critically loved film would be a really daunting task. A small studio got the rights to the film and hired Matt Reeves, the man who brought us the big monster movie Cloverfield, to take on the job. Let Me In hit theaters last year with built-in hate from fans of the original film. Slowly though, as critics and fans saw the movie, the tide began to turn. Yes, it was a remake but it was an extremely well executed one with some ideas and perspective that made the film feel fresh and the story feel new again. It’s not fair to ask if this film is better or worse than the original: it’s different. The core story is the same, based on a novel, but the perspective of the director and the way the story is told is different in this film compared to the original.
After having some time to sit back and take the whole experience in, director Matt Reeves shares his thoughts with me on the film, the novel, the actors, and more just as the Let Me In DVD and Blu-ray release looms [...]

New Trailer For ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Action RPG ‘War In The North’

The action RPG genre of video games is one of the most popular out there. Not only do they give us all the joy we get from not just playing a game but actually being able to become a character and live and breathe in their worlds, they also give all of the delectable real combat (none of that silly turn-based crap) we can handle.
Fantasy titles like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Fable are considered a pair of the more beloved action RPGs ever made, but what if we had a game just like them that also happened to be set in the lands of Middle-earth, straight out of J.R.R. Tolkien‘s The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings tales? That’s exactly what the new game being developed by Snowblind Studios, Lord of the Rings: War in the North, hopes to become.
You can get a peek at the brand new trailer for Lord of the Rings: War in the North by heading on over to the other side now. Much more can be learned about the game by checking out the official website, as well. [...]
