‘Angry Birds’ Continues To Take Over The World; Facebook Version On The Way This Year

The Movie God   |

Angry Birds is one of the most popular games/apps of all-time, nearing 100 million downloads so far. So it should come as no surprise that multiple plans are in motion for other platforms, spin-offs, and adaptations are well in the works.

The company behind Angry Birds, Rovio, has revealed that they have a new version of the title currently on the way for none other than Facebook. Rovio’s Mikael Hed says the game will have new aspects to it that players haven’t seen on other platforms, and that because of the “collaborative nature,” the pigs will play a bigger part.

This comes after it had already been revealed that the ornithological projectiles were making their way to most game platforms including PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Along with all of this expansion, Angry Birds isn’t stopping there. World domination is the ultimate goal, and that means possible movies and TV show adaptations as well. It’s unclear if and when we’ll really see the birds on the big screen, but it looks to be happening some day in the near future. [...]

Google Doodles and Doodler: Will Eisner

Culturesmash   |

Google Doodle Will Eisner

Today when you visit Google’s homepage the usual Google logo has been replaced with a Will Eisner-inspired doodle to celebrate his birthday. Click on the logo and you’ll find a treasure trove of information about the iconic comic book creator.

Eisner was born on March 6, 1917 and died back in 2005. He is perhaps best known for the character The Spirit, which did, for better or for worse, get the feature film treatment, but he also crafted such classic characters as John Law, Sheena: Queen of the Jungle, Black Hawk, Uncle Sam, and countless others.

Eisner is known as the father of the graphic novel and he was one of the founding creators of the actual comic book bringing the art form from Sunday newspapers into what we know as comic books today [...]

Must Watch: Animation Shows Fan’s Excitement For ‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’

The Movie God   |

With almost 2 million hits on YouTube, many of you have possibly already seen and laughed at this, but for the rest of you fans of Bethesda Softwork’s The Elder Scrolls video game series, this video is a must-see.

The video comes from popular YouTube user Harry Partridge, who created an animated short in celebration of the release of the first teaser trailer for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In it, a character gets a little overly excited about the announcement — something most die hard fans will have no problem associating with and understanding.

The cartoon is only a little over a minute in length, but it’s hilarious and the song spoof on the Skyrim musical theme is catchy and will be stuck in your head for hours. All that’s left to wonder is how excited this gentleman would get over the recent gameplay trailer that was released!

You can see the video by heading below. There is some adult themes involved so a minor NSFW warning is in order. [...]

‘KISS Kondoms’ Coming For Your Love Gun

cGt2099   |

KISS

Time to put the “X in Sex” and explode with a “Sonic Boom” like the “God of Thunder” — the band KISS is releasing new KISS Kondoms for fans to stay safe when they’re taking their significant others for a “Rocket Ride.”

Apologies for the song title puns used here, but c’mon… this is KISS and it’s a story about Gene Simmons pimping out some condoms — I just couldn’t help myself.

The difference with this release of KISS Kondoms is that they have pictures on them, which is kind of odd when you think about where these things are going to end up when you’re done using them [...]

Kristen Stewart Confirmed As Snow White In ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’

Kristen Stewart

Back in January, it was reported that Universal Pictures was eying Twilight star Kristen Stewart for the role of Snow White in their upcoming fantasy film Snow White and the Huntsman.

A few days ago, one of the producers for the Rupert Sanders-directed film, Palek Patel, posted to his Twitter account that Stewart was officially playing Snow White in the film, which is a retelling of the classic fairy tale. The producer also tweeted that Stewart’s deal was in final negotiations and would close next week [...]

Movie Review: The Adjustment Bureau

Three-D   |

the adjustment bureau

The Adjustment Bureau
Directed by Gorge Nolfi
Starring Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Anthony Mackie, Michael Kelly, John Slattery, Terence Stamp
Release date: March 4, 2011

There are things we as a society are not supposed to see. Whether it is governmental, religious, or even sports related, we are just encouraged to keep our eyes shut and our curiosity should be forever crippled. This is a bleak idea to assume, but conspiracies are out there, people. It is faintly perceptible what exactly it is the government, or whatever branch of society you want to look at, is trying to hide, accomplish, or complete. It is far above my paygrade to surmise. Some people, though, abide by the rules (turning away and crippling curiosity), and others just insist on testing the waters, seeing what may occur if one digs deeper. Persistent and courageous some appear to be who aren’t content with just sitting back. They want to uncover, they want to contemplate, and they want to say, “Hey, I know what’s really going on and I’m not OK with it!” Ewan McGregor did this last year in Ghost Writer and Jack Nicholson did it over 35 years ago in Chinatown. The decision to plunge deeper into a corrupted abyss can have fatal ramifications. Matt Damon, you are up. It is now your turn to make the plunge.

The Adjustment Bureau places Matt Damon as David Norris, a charismatic New York congressman who is running for Senator. Damon looks the part (his exuberance and charm). He can be associated, in the few scenes we see of him running for Senator, with John F. Kennedy. But comparisons are for a later time. When David is practicing his concession speech in a grand bathroom he believes he is alone. A pin or earring hits the floor, catching the attention of David. There emerges out of a stall a beautiful and intoxicating lady, Elise, a professional ballerina played elegantly by Emily Blunt. With ease and delicacy the two begin a conversation as if they’ve been familiar with one another for years [...]

‘The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ Coming To DVD

Culturesmash   |

Earth's Mightiest Heroes: The Avengers

The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes was a welcome surprise from Marvel Studios. It’s an animated series that’s crafted in such a way that fans of all ages can enjoy it. The series is on Disney XD which is a difficult sell to any fan above a certain demographic, but if you just hold your breath and flip over there the show will impress. Hardcore comic book fans will see the show is loosely based on Brian Michael Bendis’s Avenger’s Disassembled story arc, or at least the aftermath of that story. At any rate, the series features classic Avengers heroes on the team including Captain America, Thor, The Hulk, The Wasp, Ant Man/Giant Man, Hawkeye, and Black Panther.

If you aren’t the type to set foot in Disney kidville, then you can still see the show because Disney has announced that the first 13 episodes are coming to DVD, conveniently broken up into two volumes. Episodes 1 – 7 will be in Volume 1 and Episodes 8 – 13 will be presented in Volume 2. Both sets will be available on DVD April 26, 2011. At this point the only bonus feature we know of is a look at the upcoming Season 2 on the second volume [...]

Deal: ‘Smallville’ Seasons 1-9

Empress Eve   |

Smallville

I’m finally catching up on one of my favorite shows, Smallville. After popping in Season 7 on DVD, which I got on sale a few weeks ago, I went to Amazon to check what the current price was and I noticed that most of the season DVDs are in the $15-$20 range, which is super cheap! This is especially huge, considering they’re typically around $60 each and the bundled Smallville Season 1-8 Collection runs for $289.99, which is way more than buying them right now individually. Even the seasons available on Blu-ray are only $27 – $28 each!

Smallville Season 1: DVD: $19.49
Smallville Season 2: DVD: $59.98
Smallville Season 3: DVD: $48.49
Smallville Season 4: DVD: $36.49
Smallville Season 5: DVD: $19.49
Smallville Season 6: DVD: $20.49 | Blu-ray $25.99

Book Review: ‘Badass’ By Ben Thompson

The Geeks of Doom   |

Badass by Ben Thompson

Badass
A Relentless Onslaught of the Toughest Warlords, Vikings, Samurai, Pirates, Gunfighters, and Military Commanders to Ever Live
Paperback
By Ben Thompson
Harper Paperbacks
2009

So rare is it that a book grabs my attention, and bitch slaps me while still in the book store. Such was the case with Badass by Ben Thompson. True to its name Badass is a relentless onslaught of the toughest Warlords, Vikings, Samurai, Pirates, Gunfighters, and Military Commanders to ever live.

At first I thought there was no way in the name of Zeus’ Thundering ass that a book could contain so much “BadassITUDE”! Man was I wrong. Badass grabs you, punches you in the face, and makes you feel as if you should be in the kitchen making IT a sandwich.

From the moment I opened this book I was bombarded by quotes from memorable Badass’s throughout history. As I continued on, I was met with “The Bone-Crushing Principles of Complete and Utter Badassitude”! This small, 5 step program, will guide you through the 321 pages of ass kicking, without feeling the need to pull over and ask directions [...]

Lucasfilm has announced that the first Star Wars 3D release, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, will hit theaters on February 10, 2012.

As outlined in the initial announcement on the Star Wars 3D releases, the plan is to re-release each Star Wars film newly converted to 3D every year, finishing in 2017. Both announcements from Lucasfilm have been met with mixed reactions from fans, though George Lucas has been publicly supportive of 3D technology in cinema along with James Cameron in the years leading up to his Avatar release [...]

Michelle Rodriguez Says ‘Avatar 2′ Will Take Place Underwater

The Movie God   |

In an interview with the Associated Press, actress Michelle Rodriguez, who’s out promoting her new film, Battle: Los Angeles, had some things to say about the sequel to the biggest movie ever made: Avatar 2.

In the interview, Rodriguez stated that the massive follow-up to 2009′s Avatar — which brought in almost $3 billion worldwide at the box office — would be heading underwater. She didn’t make it clear whether the entire film would be set in this environment or if would be a partial location, but she did make it clear that it is going to be “extraordinarily beautiful.”

The actress admits she’s not sure if director James Cameron will be offering her a role in the film yet, but she still hopes to at least visit and watch the blockbuster being made.

I have to think this would be amazing, personally. Everyone knows how well Cameron does water, and his previous works like The Abyss and Aliens of the Deep would lead us to believe that a movie on scale with Avatar set underwater would be stunning to see. [...]

Another Fantastic Trailer For HBO’s ‘Game Of Thrones’ & An Invitation To Westeros

The Movie God   |

HBO has released another trailer for their upcoming fantasy series, Game of Thrones. The new trailer, same as all others we’ve seen so far, is wonderful. HBO has also released a mini featurette video called Invitation to Westeros, which will introduce you to the world, its seasons, and its people.

The show is based on author George R.R. Martin‘s popular book series, “A Song of Ice and Fire,” with the first season based on book one: A Game of Thrones. Any additional seasons that HBO orders will each be based on the next book in the series. The story follows a struggle for power between multiple families as they try to take control of the Iron Throne.

You can see both the new trailer and the Invitation to Westeros video from HBO’s Game of Thrones by clicking on over to the other side now!

The first video is the new trailer, but be warned: the quality is pretty low, and you can see a much better version by heading to EW. [...]

Due Date
Blu-ray/DVD Combo
DIRECTED BY: Todd Phillips
WRITTEN BY: Alan R. Cohen, Alan Freedland
STARRING: Robert Downey Jr., Zach Galafianakis, Michelle Monaghan, Jamie Foxx, Danny McBride, RZA, Juliette Lewis
Warner Home Video
RELEASE DATE: February 22, 2011

Have you ever had to share an inordinate amount of time with a complete and total stranger? It rarely leads to a lifelong friendship, and more often than not it can become one of the more uncomfortable situations you can find yourself in.

Just such a situation develops in Due Date, the new comedy from Old School and The Hangover director Todd Phillips. The movie follows Peter Highman (Robert Downey Jr.), who’s on his way home to be there for the birth of his first child. Fate has other plans for Peter, however, when a couple of chance encounters with an awkward aspiring actor named Ethan Tremblay (Zach Galifianakis) sees him put on the no-fly list. To make up for the incident, Ethan offers to share his rental car with Peter, and off the two strangers go.

Before long, Peter grows impatient with Ethan and realizes the strange man is simply insufferable. He attempts to ditch him a couple of times, but an unexplainable feeling of guilt for the pathetic Ethan and his little dog keeps Peter coming back…and keeps getting him into ridiculous and hilarious trouble. Blu-ray Review: Dungeons & Dragons 2-Movie Collection

Henchman21   |

Dungeons & Dragons 2-Movie Collection

Dungeons & Dragons 2-Movie Collection
Blu-ray Edition
Directed by Courtney Solomon/Gerry Lively
Starring Jeremy Irons, Marlon Wayans, Thora Birch, Mark Dymond
Warner Home Video
Release date: February 15, 2011

I guess I am the resident Dungeons & Dragons expert here at Geeks of Doom, so when the new 2-disc Blu-ray combo pack of Dungeons & Dragons and D&D: Wrath of the Dragon God came across our desk, I was the first one offered to check them out. I’ve never seen these movies before, but I know of them by reputation, and I was curious to see if they lived up to those reputations. All I really wanted out of them was a decent adventure movie that at least gave a tip of its hat to the popular roleplaying game. What I got was one decent adventure movie, and one really bad but really goofy adventure movie.

The first Dungeons & Dragons movie, which was originally released in 2000, stars Jeremy Irons, Marlon Wayans, and Thora Birch and follows a couple of thieves (Wayans and Justin Waylin), a mage (Zoe MClellan), a dwarf (Lee Arenberg), and an Elf (Kristen Wilson) as they search for a magical item that will control dragons and save their kingdom. There are some D&D elements thrown in, notably the dragons, a few dungeons, and some Beholders, but they didn’t use a lot of the more specific items I would have liked to find in a D&D movie. They don’t use any specific worlds from the game and it really feels like more of a generic fantasy world than anything specifically tied to the D&D game [...]
