Is This Video Of A Man Hacking The Screens Of New York City’s Time Square With An iPhone Fake?

An interesting video is making its way around the ‘net, and we want to hear your opinions on its legitimacy.
The video in question shows a man with a very cool trick. He’s created a little transmitter device that plugs into his iPhone, and when a second device is held near a video screen it automatically takes over the screen with the video playing on the phone. To prove this, he starts by recording a little video of himself shot by a friend in New York City’s Time Square of all places (where better to show off such a thing?) and then goes to prove it works.
So has this guy created something incredible, or is the entire thing a complete joke? Be sure to click on over to the other side now and see the video for yourself!
The first stop they make is a small screen where they play the video while the gizmo’s creator holds the second device right next to the video that’s currently playing. [...]

KISS: 35th Anniversary of ‘Destroyer’
 |
Posted by Obi-Dan | March 15th, 2011 at 9:58 am |

KISS
Destroyer
UK: CD | MP3
U.S.: CD | MP3
Recorded September 1975 and February 1976
Released March 15, 1976
Say it with me: “You wanted the best, you got the best! The hottest band in the world: KISS!”
Despite being the global phenomenon it is today, only a modest reception greeted KISS’ first three albums on initial release back in the 1970s. While all very good rock albums, it seemed KISS, Hotter Than Hell, and Dressed To Kill just couldn’t find a big audience. Between them they had what are now thought of as classic KISS songs such as “Strutter,” “Rock and Roll All Nite,” and “Parasite.” But it was the release of the stunning live album Alive! which turned KISS fever into a full-blown pandemic.
On March 15, 1976, a mere six months after Alive!, the band released its fourth studio album, which was produced by Bob Ezrin. It had rock anthems, ballads, wailing guitars, string sections, thumping drums, and the world’s most iconic musicians. This was to be the album which turned KISS from rock stars into superstars. And its title summed up the band’s intent: Destroyer […]

Scooby-Doo To Meet Batman Again On ‘The Brave and the Bold’

I’ve been eying this Scooby-Doo Meets Batman DVD for weeks since I saw the price drop to only $5. One of my favorite things about the Scooby-Doo cartoon series was all the famous guest stars, so it was a real treat for me when the Scooby gang teamed up with Batman and Robin back in the 1970s.
Now, they’ll all be teaming up again for an episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold, called “Batman’s Strangest Cases,” which will air on Friday, April 1 (6:30/5:30c) on Cartoon Network.
Paul Reubens (“Pee-wee Herman”) will host the episode, written by comics superstar Paul Dini, and will reprise his role as Bat-Mite [...]

‘Prey 2′ Announced By Bethesda Softworks For 2012 Release

Bethesda Softworks has announced that a sequel to the 2006 video game, Prey, is in the works and will be released some time in 2012.
The original game followed a Native American called Tommy who, along with his girlfriend and grandfather, is abducted by aliens who bring them into a nightmarish ship where humans are apparently being harvested by the extraterrestrials. Tommy then has to navigate his way through the ship, often needing to work with strange portals and gravitational belts, trying to find and save them.
Prey 2 will be developed by the same team that made the original, Human Head Studios, and much like the first game used id Software’s id Tech 4 engine, the sequel will be built using id’s brand new engine.
Of the announcement, project lead Chris Rhinehart said “we are thrilled to be working with Bethesda on Prey 2. Prey 2 will provide gamers the opportunity to explore a new facet of the Prey universe, one that offers fast-paced action in an open, alien world. We’re excited to show gamers the title we have been working on and hope they will be as excited by this title as we are.” [...]

Impressive ‘Doctor Who’ Opening Sequence Styled Like ‘Buffy’
 |
Posted by cGt2099 | March 14th, 2011 at 4:57 pm |

Here’s a bit of fun for Doctor Who fans, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer fans as well. Punkocarp has posted to YouTube a nice mashup of the two — it’s a Doctor Who opening sequence, but done in the style of the Buffy series. I’m a big fan of opening sequence mashups, and have enjoyed the Star Wars ones that have floated about the web, and I have to say that I was pretty impressed with this one.
The clips selected for the sequence are well chosen as well. They fit the style of the Buffy opener, and also included are a couple of little snippets from the upcoming Doctor Who series as well. Check out the video [...]

Book Review: Death Masks: The Dresden Files, Book 5

Death Masks
The Dresden Files, Book 5
By Jim Butcher
Hardcover | Paperback | Kindle
Roc
Released November 3, 2009
Today I present to you a book that has been out for a while, but represents a huge pivotal point in an ongoing series. If you haven’t read The Dresden Files books by Jim Butcher, you are seriously missing out. Butcher blends magic, mystery, and sarcasm in the perfect ratio to produce what I (and many who have read them) consider the best Contemporary Fantasy books available. I have recommended this series to probably a thousand folks in the past eight years and not one has ever returned one or complained they didn’t like it. That said, on to the review of Death Masks, which is Book 5 of the series.
Without giving away plot points, and thereby ruining the story or series for others, let me just say that so much happens in Death Masks that you don’t realize half of what’s happening until you are reminded of it in later volumes. This novel is a major turning point in the series in that it introduces a plethora of new characters that really help to flesh out the world of the protagonist [...]

Movie Review: No Strings Attached

No Strings Attached
Directed by Ivan Reitman
Starring Natalie Portman, Ashton Kutcher, Kevin Kline, Olivia Thirlby, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, Greta Gerwig, Mindy Kaling
Release date: January 21, 2011
Boy and girl are sitting on a bench underneath the moonlight, probably at some middle school dance or summer camp. They are taking a break from whatever festivity it is that they are attending. The boy looks fairly shy and nervous, anxious to get to a certain point. The girl is more opened it seems. She’s possibly thinking that the boy is going to ask for a kiss. Or maybe he will even act hastily and sneak one. This is such a wonderful set-up that evokes the impulses and feelings we feel at the ripe age of fourteen. But my naiveté works against me here. What wishful thinking on my behalf! What comes out of the boy’s mouth (a question that is usually asked to a prostitute) is well beyond his age and his image. And the girl, disturbingly, remains composed at the question. Can it be that he is addicted to sexual acts at this stage of his life and she desensitized by such pleads? What a demoralizing thought. But my senses should have been more alert for the dialogue used by these two kids. Hell, why should American comedy hold back any thing? Crude is what American comedy does best. And this is 2011, so we should come to expect this kind of humor, vulgarity, cheapness, and conventionality [...]

Blu-ray Review: The Man From Nowhere

The Man From Nowhere
Blu-ray/DVD
DIRECTED BY: Jeong-beom Lee
WRITTEN BY: Jeong-beom Lee
STARRING: Bin Won, Sae-ron Kim, Hyo-seo Kim
CJ Entertainment
RELEASE DATE: March 8, 2011
I wouldn’t say I’m a knowledge in Asian cinema; I’ve seen some of the required viewing films like Oldboy and a few of Kurosawa’s works, as well as ones like House of Flying Daggers and Hero, to name just a few. But despite my not having experienced many more of these movies, I’m always excited to see a new one. Running with this excitement, I was able to watch a movie recently that I had absolutely no prior knowledge of, knew nothing about the premise or story, and had not even seen a trailer for — a movie called The Man From Nowhere.
The movie tells the story of Tae-Sik Cha (Bin Won), a former special agent whose wife and unborn child are killed, sending him into a quiet, reclusive existence. He runs a lowly pawn shop and most people assume based on his appearance that he’s dangerous and keep their distance…except So-Mi Jeong (Sae-ron Kim), that is. [...]
