Must Watch: Billy Crystal Returns For ‘When Harry Met Sally 2′ With Helen Mirren

We haven’t seen a whole lot of Billy Crystal lately, and this is a very depressing thing for anyone who’s known and loved his movies over the years.
The legendary entertainer and best Academy Awards host of all-time has been staying under the radar for the most part and has only done a few things since 2002, but recently he came out of hiding to re-team with director Rob Reiner and pitch their case for a sequel to his much-loved romantic comedy, When Harry Met Sally.
As Hollywood tends to work these days, however, the executives who hear the pitch decide they want to make just a tiny little change to their pitch. The resulting movie is too good to spoil, so you must click on over to the other side to check it out. The hilarious parody of Hollywood’s lack of originality is littered with great cameos and you shan’t regret watching it, this I promise you. [...]

Movie Review: Hobo With A Shotgun

Hobo With A Shotgun
Directed By: Jason Eisener
Written By: John Davies
Starring: Rutger Hauer, Gregory Smith, Molly Dunsworth, Brian Downey, Rob Wells
Release date: March 25, 2011 (Canada)
Once in a lifetime, you come across a movie that rips the scales from your eyes and forces you to see the world as it really is. A movie that reaches into your very soul; tapping into the existential yearning that is the yolk which connects us all to our basic humanity. It’s a movie that one single viewing of can change your life forever.
For me, that movie is Hobo With A Shotgun.
For those of you who don’t already know the story, Hobo With A Shotgun was the brainchild of Canadian filmmaker Jason Eisener. Winner of the SXSW Grindhouse Trailer contest, Jason Eisener’s fake trailer for Hobo With A Shotgun was attached to the blockbuster Tarantino/Rodriguez Grindhouse double-bill of Planet Terror and Death Proof for its Canadian run. The trailer became such a hit that soon shooting of a feature-length film began in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia [...]

Book Review: Dark Prince (Author’s Cut Special Edition)

Dark Prince
Author’s Cut Special Edition
By Christine Feehan
Hardcover | Kindle
HarperCollins
Release date: March 8, 2011
Dark Prince is the first book in Christine Feehan’s 21-book Dark Series. Originally published in 1999, this new edition, released last month, is a Special Edition Author’s Cut containing 100 more pages than the original version.
In it, we meet Raven Whitney, an especially gifted human psychic who telepathically hunts down serial killers and helps bring them to justice. Because her gifts make her extremely sensitive to the most private and sometimes downright disturbing thoughts of everyone around her, Raven lives a solitary existence. Each time she helps nab a serial killer it leaves her sick and exhausted provoking her to seek solitude in the mountains. One night she psychically picks up the low, mournful cry of a painfully lonely man. Intrigued and concerned that he might be contemplating suicide, Raven telepathically tries to soothe the man, who shows up on her hotel balcony in the form of a bird soon after their mental conversation. So begins the all-consuming, undeniably frightening, exhilarating, and supremely important love affair between American-born Raven and ancient, powerful Carpathian prince Mikhail Dubrinsky, the success of which may mean the difference between extinction and salvation for the Carpathian race [...]

The Hulk To Beat Down Some Bloodsuckers In ‘Hulk vs. Dracula’

Hulk vs. Dracula announced this weekend at WonderCon 2011 features Dracula and his vampire army facing off against the big green guy.
This one sounds amusing at the very least. The story is supposed be an action-packed tie-in to the big Marvel event Fear Itself. This 3-issue miniseries brings the vampire story from the X-Men, the Death of Dracula story, and the upcoming Tomb of Dracula Presents: Throne of Blood together in one epic conclusion. The miniseries is written by Victor Gischler and illustrated by Ryan Stegman. Look for the first issue in comic book shops this September.
Gischler has previously worked on comics such as Punisher Max, Deadpool, X-Men, and Death of Dracula. He’s also written an eclectic mix of novels including Go-Go-Girls of the Apocalypse, and a crime novel called Pistol Monkeys among others. Ryan Stegman’s previous work can be seen in X-23, She-Hulks, and the Incredible Hercules [...]

Blu-ray Review: Tron: Legacy

Tron: Legacy/Tron: The Original Classic
5-Disc Blu-ray | 4-Disc Blu-ray | 2-Disc Blu-ray | DVD
Directed by Joseph Kosinski/Steven Lisberger
Starring Jeff Bridges, Olivia Wilde, Garrett Hedlund, Bruce Boxleitner
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
Released date: April 5, 2011
If you want to see my opinion of Tron: Legacy, go ahead and check out my original review of the film’s theatrical release. My opinion of the movie hasn’t really changed since I originally wrote the review. To sum up, it is a fun and visually amazing movie, but it is not as good as it could have been. However, now I’m here to talk about the Blu-ray version of Tron: Legacy, in all its five discs of glory, and I can’t recommend it enough because it looks great at home, and because it includes the Blu-ray version of Tron: The Original Classic. The transfer on both of the Blu-rays look amazing, and if you’ve got a high end system, this is going to be a disc that will show it off. The movie is shown in its IMAX aspect ratio, so it doesn’t quite fill a standard screen, but that doesn’t take anything away. I was blown away by how great Tron: Legacy looked at home. Unfortunately, I am not set up for home 3D yet, so I can’t speak to what that looks like, but I have to assume that this is going to be a film that takes full advantage of that technology [...]

Gollum Actor Andy Serkis To Be Peter Jackson’s Second Unit Director On ‘The Hobbit’

Andy Serkis had many people screaming for him to be nominated for an Academy Award for his performance capture work as the creature Gollum in director Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. He also went on help Jackson bring to life the most realistic and personality-filled King Kong we’ve ever seen using the same performance capture techniques.
Now Serkis has rejoined Jackson for the two-part adaptation of The Hobbit, which has now begun filming in New Zealand. But becoming Gollum once again will not be all that the actor is doing this time around. It’s being reported that Serkis will be used as Jackson’s second unit director on the film.
This isn’t the first time the actor will take on a job “behind the camera,” if you will. Along with motion capture and voice work on the video games Heavenly Sword and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, he also acted as a dramatic director and a story writer as well. [...]

Real Or Fake: Gamer Takes On 4 ‘Super Mario’ Speedruns At Once

Speedruns are an impressive feat. They involve taking classic video games — games that are worlds harder than today’s fare, with a restricted number of lives to deal with and so on — and sprinting through as fast as possible in an attempt to beat it in record time.
One of the more popular games to speedrun is of course Super Mario Bros.. With hidden secrets tucked away, those knowledgeable enough can make their way through in shocking times. But one gamer decided he wanted to try and outdo even the best speedrunners…by playing multiple titles at the same time.
The player, known on YouTube as agwawaf, set up not only Mario Bros. but also Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, and even Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, and then beat them all together. But is it a real accomplishment or are we being fooled?
Continue on below now to see the video for yourself and share your thoughts on how he did it or how legit it might be. [...]

Following WonderCon 2011, we are launching not one, but TWO episodes of TARDISblend this week! The promotions and publicity for Doctor Who Series 6 is moving full speed ahead, with many revelations, news items, rumors, spoilers, and other stuff abound. Co-host Tom Cheredar was on assignment for Geeks of Doom at WonderCon this year and got to catch up with both Toby Haynes and Neil Gaiman.
For episode 21 of the TARDISblend podcast, we focus on Tom’s interview with living legend Neil Gaiman, as he discusses his writing of the fourth episode of Doctor Who Series 6, enigmatically titled The Doctor’s Wife. While Gaiman remains mostly elusive about specific details about his episode, he does discuss a lot about his experience in working with Steven Moffat. Following the interview, Greg and Tom discuss the rumors and spoilers surrounding The Doctor’s Wife, including the footage shown at WonderCon involving an Ood and… Time Lords?
In addition, we take a look at the developments in the world of Torchwood: Miracle Day, which is scheduled to premiere in July. We examine the teasers and promo material being published and pushed out currently by BBC Worldwide and Starz USA, and discuss how things come to pass to set up the scene for Miracle Day. ISSUES

Secret Six #32 (DC Comics – $2.99) – Secret Six is easily one of my favorite ongoing series, so don’t be surprised when you see this book on my list every month. Not enough people read this book, and that’s a crime. It’s one of the most consistently awesome comics to come out on a regular basis, and this current storyline is no exception. In this second issue of the current story arc, writer Gail Simone takes the Secret Six into Hell to solve one of the most exciting story lines that was set up at the very beginning of the series. This series continues to be a “can’t miss,” so don’t miss it! [...]

Two New ‘Wyatt Earp’ Westerns On The Way Again … Including One With Val Kilmer

We all know the drill — movie studios love to make movies similar to what other studios are making in order to compete and ultimately try and prevail. Whether it’s a historical figure or disastrous event at its core, or if it’s a new take on the many beloved fairy tales out there as we’ve been seeing lately, it happen on a pretty consistent basis.
Just such a pair of dueling movies came around in the early ’90s when Buena Vista Pictures and Warner Brothers delivered their own versions of the story of legendary law man Wyatt Earp. Buena Vista’s Tombstone is far and away the better of the two, but now it looks like we’ll get to see this very same cinematic battle once again.
It’s being reported that two new Wyatt Earp projects are in the works, one an indie flick that’s already in production and the other once again coming from Warners. [...]
