TV Madness: NBC Renews ‘Chuck,’ Cancels ‘The Event’; ABC Cancels ‘V’

The Movie God   |

As you may have noticed, there’s been a bit of television shuffling lately. It’s that purely chaotic time of year when networks decide what shows they keep and what shows they kill, as well as what new shows they’ll order seasons of.

Last night news broke that CBS was going to keep pressing on with their seemingly doomed Two and a Half Men by replacing Charlie Sheen with Ashton Kutcher. Then, late last night, it was reported that NBC was not going to take the chance everyone thought they would on the much talked about comic book adaptation, Wonder Woman.

This has continued today with a mess of announcements and updates making their way across the ‘net. Some will not matter much to anyone while others will either excite or devastate loyal fans of these various titles facing the firing squad.

Let’s start with the good news: fans of the hit NBC show, Chuck, will be happy to know that despite some fears of its demise, the network has decided to renew for a “fifth and final” season, which will run 13 new episodes.

Now for the bad news — after denying Wonder Woman, NBC has also decided to cancel The Event, which had a lot of hype behind it but, according to many, fell pretty flat on its face. On the shiner side of things, this is not yet the “all is lost” moment for fans of the show. Apparently NBC is going to explore multiple options for continuing the series elsewhere, and is talking to a bunch of possibles. All signs point to this not being the last you hear of The Event.

Not faring any better is the alien invasions of V, which ABC has also decided to end. This doesn’t really come as a surprise as V has been rumored to be on the chopping block since its pilot episode airs…so it feels, anyway.

Other noteworthy TV decisions so far include NBC also canceling Law & Order: Los Angeles, and ABC canceling Brothers and Sisters, No Ordinary Family, and Detroit 1-8-7 (among others) which is all to make room for a slew of new shows ordered by the network, including Charlie’s Angels.

HBO is also in on the action, renewing Treme for a third season.

I thought the first half season of the Event was really boring but it has become a lot more interesting in the last 7 or 8 episodes.

    Yay Chuck is renewed!
Booo V was canceled right when it was getting better.
Booo The Event was canceled right when it was getting better too.

Totally sucks that V was cancelled.  Yeah, the plot was moving a little slow, but it was finally picking up and getting pretty good!
