‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot Writers Want To Create ‘Alien’ & ‘Terminator’ Level Female Lead

A pair of writers have been hired to pen the script for a planned reboot of the Tomb Raider movie franchise. GK Films has brought in Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, who have worked together on movies like Children of Men, Iron Man, and Cowboys & Aliens, to write the reboot…and they have big plans in mind.
The duo boldly state that they want to take the strong lead female character, Lara Croft, and put together an origins story that will see her joining the ranks of the all-time most badass female leads like Ripley from Alien (Sigourney Weaver) and Sarah Connor from the Terminator movies (most notably played by Linda Hamilton).
At the moment only the writers have been signed and no actresses have been discussed as potential stars for the iconic role, nor has a director been hired. But the plan is to have the ambitious reboot finished for a 2013 release, so expect to hear much more about this movie in the coming months. [...]

Book Review: Everyone Loves You When You’re Dead

Everyone Loves You When You’re Dead
Journeys Into Fame And Madness
Paperback
By Neil Strauss
HarperCollins/It Books
Release date: March 15, 2011
To say that Everyone Loves You When You’re Dead is merely a collection of interviews with celebrities and major contributors to decades of pop culture would be to sell it short. There’s a lot more to this book, just as there’s a lot more to a person beyond their fame and public achievements. Behind the personas that are created to market the products of their talents are (surprise!) real people. In his latest book, author Neil Strauss does what he does best: drawing the famous (and in some cases, the not-so-famous-but-should-be) out of their protective shells and somehow getting them to voluntarily lift up their skirts and show him their knickers, whether they be pretty, plastic, stained, or bloody. We get the unabashed truth, not a stylized or sanitized version of it [...]

Toy Review: Thor Lightning Hammer
 |
Posted by MK2Fac3 | May 5th, 2011 at 11:45 pm |

Every year that a Marvel blockbuster makes its way to theaters, it’s a big hit. But the box office isn’t the only place where Marvel makes a smash — toy stores are also hit by the mighty power of Marvel, and this year is no exception.
I love action figures, but my favorite toys of the Marvel line have always been the sound effect toys. The toys that take an iconic piece of the movie of the year, add foam, and add sound effects. My personal favorites being the Thing and Hulk hands that were released a few years ago. And this year’s awesome toy is Thor Lightning Hammer, Thor’s mighty hammer Mjolnir, brought to us by Hasbro! And I gotta tell you, it keeps my love for these toys alive [...]

Next ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Game Revealed
 |
Posted by Merkader | May 5th, 2011 at 9:19 pm |

Game developer Ubisoft finally announced something we all knew was coming: a new Assassin’s Creed game, which will be titled Assassin’s Creed: Revelations.
It wasn’t until just now that I realized how convoluted the story line to this game really is. Again you will be Ezio, in the old memories of Desmond. In these genetic dreams, Ezio will do the things that Altair did, forget it, here is the description from the press release.
In Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, master assassin Ezio Auditore walks in the footsteps of his legendary mentor, Altaïr, on a journey of discovery and revelation. It is a perilous path – one that will take Ezio to Constantinople, the heart of the Ottoman Empire, where a growing army of Templars threatens to destabilize the region. [...]

Comic Review: Green Lantern #65

Green Lantern #65
Written by Geoff Johns
Art by Doug Mahnke
Cover by Ivan Reis, Oclair Albert
DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: April 20, 2011
One of the biggest events in DC Comics has come with the brand new War of the Green Lanterns story which is pitting Green Lanterns against each other. Part five of this epic event lands in Green Lantern #65 in which we see Guy, John, Kyle, and Hal without their rings and donning new rings to try and bring down the renegade guardian Krona who has taken over Oa and returned Parallax to the giant battery and made the rest of the guardians hosts for the other Lantern entities he has stolen.
This issue shows Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner flying a “suped” up shuttle from a Lantern safehouse to OA in order to find Kyle and John who are being tracked by the “infected” corps. This issue feels like a great buddy cop movie but set in space. The end of the book shows Kyle, Hal, John and Guy wearing other Corps rings to stop Krona [...]

Watch Now: Full-Length Trailer For ‘Conan The Barbarian’

The first full-length trailer for Conan the Barbarian is now online.
Watch it here below.
The new movie, directed by Marcus Nispel, is based on the universe created by Robert E. Howard and is a remake of the 1982 film that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as the title barbarian. The teaser trailer released last month left a lot to be desired, but now the longer theatrical version shows that this movie actually has potential (now whether you can stand remakes in general is another thing).
Jason Momoa plays the title role here and at first, I wasn’t sure if he was the right person to wield the blade, but he’s won me over, especially after seeing the actor recently in HBO’s new series Game Of Thrones [...]

In Preparation For ‘Thor’: Norse Mythology A-Z (Or At Least Y Anyway)

Are you excited for the release of Marvel Studios’ Thor on Friday, but you don’t know your Baldr from your Bilfrost? Well, the good folks at Geeks of Doom have got you covered!
Marvel Comics delved deep into traditional Norse mythology to create the backdrop for Thor, pulling gods, monsters, giants, and exotic locations to populate their modern take on the old legend. Few people realize this, but Norse Mythology is the manliest thing to ever exist; even manlier then an Ultimate Klingon Fighting League. We’re talking Dungeons & Dragons on steroids. We’re talking honey mead-swilling, giant axe-swinging, buxom maiden-screwing, giant troll-wrestling hurricane of 100 percent, grade-A he-beef. Why do you think Power Metal loves it so much?
In honor of Thor, Geeks of Doom jumps two skullcrushing boots first into the world of Viking gods. So grab a stein of mead, a side of boar, and enjoy Geeks of Doom’s NORSE MYTHOLOGY A-Z (Or At Least Y Anyway) [...]

Ouch! BioWare Delays ‘Mass Effect 3′ Release Until Early 2012

Some very painful news for fans of the Mass Effect franchise who were impatiently waiting the arrival of the biggest and final installment in the series, Mass Effect 3, which was set to hit store shelves at some point this November.
But with two other juggernauts in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception planned for November, it was too chaotic a month to even bother with. Paired with some other reasons, BioWare has now announced that they’ll be holding on to their highly anticipated title just a little longer, and that the game with now be released in early 2012.
The release date for the game had been kind of shaky, first having it landing in “late 2011/early 2012.” The two dates more recently were December 31 and the above-mentioned November, and the game had been dubbed the “most anticipated title of 2011″ by multiple outlets, basically confirming that it would be shipped out this year. Unfortunately that just wasn’t going to happen, whether the developers thought it would initially or not. [...]

As with previous Quirk Classics titles like Night Of The Living Trekkies, the publisher has released an amusing trailer for the book, which was co-written by Cook Coleridge. Watch the trailer, directed by Justin Lutsky, here [...]

So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull list, grab some issues and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of May 4, 2011. ISSUES

Blue Estate #2 (Image Comics – $2.99): When the first of this issue of this came out of nowhere to completely blow me away, I knew that I would be anticipating all following issues. The series centers around a bit of fumbling private detective that gets himself a bit over his head when he picks up a case concerning the Russian mafia. Blue Estate is extremely eccentric with a lot of mystery, but also with a perfect amount of humor to keep the series as one of the most unique books that I’ve ever read. We discussed the first issue on the podcast, but the creative force behind this comic is strong, and this Blue Estate promises to be a breakout series.
But don’t take my word for it, here’s a description of the book given to us straight from creator, Andrew Osborne! [...]

May The 4th Be With You! ‘Star Wars’ Blu-ray Details Coming Soon…

On this day each year, Star Wars fans greet each other by saying, “May the Fourth be with you.” So yeah, it’s kind of a special Star Wars Day, if you will. So what better day for LucasFilm to break some big Star Wars news!
This year, I received a cryptic email with the above teaser image stating that “all will be revealed” regarding the September 2011 release of the Star Wars Saga on Blu-ray. The various Blu-ray sets are already available for pre-order though there’s little details known about what’s to be included in these releases, so I’m guessing that that’s what the announcement will reveal.
- Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray (9-disc Set includes all six films)
- Star Wars: Prequel Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes I-III)
- Star Wars: Original Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes IV-VI) [...]

DVD Review: Hulk Vs Thor

Hulk VS Thor
Blu-ray | DVD
Directed by Takuji Endo and Sam Liu
Screenplay Christopher Yost
Starring Matthew Wolf, Graham McTavish, Kari Wahlgren, Bryce Johnson,
Grey DeLisle
As much as we love our heroes, there is one question that anyone who has ever picked up a comic book encounters: “Who would win in a fight…?” In Hulk Vs Thor, we get to see that fantasy scenario played out in an epic battle for Asgard.
Year after year, Asgard is watched over by Odin, the All Father. For one week each winter Odin must rest, leaving Asgard vulnerable to attack. Many may try to claim Asgard, but their attempts are always thwarted by Thor (Matthew Wolf) and the other Asgardian warriors. With hopes of defeating Thor, Loki (Graham McTavish) has kidnapped Dr. Bruce Banner (Bryce Johnson) in order to take control of the Hulk, the only power to ever equal the God of Thunder’s. What follows is a mystical tale of bravery and loyalty, accented with all the fist-pounding, hammer-swinging action you would expect from the two titans of the Marvel universe [...]

‘Resident Evil’ Director Paul W.S. Anderson To Direct Disaster Movie ‘Pompeii’

Director Paul W.S. Anderson is a tricky gentleman to figure out. His resume includes movies like Event Horizon, Resident Evil, and Death Race — which aren’t exactly “good” but are considered by many to be a lot of fun — as well as movies like Mortal Kombat, Soldier, AVP: Aliens vs. Predators, and Resident Evil: Afterlife — all of which are pretty universally disliked.
As the director finishes up post production on his new movie, The Three Musketeers (which fittingly looks like it could either be a lot of fun or downright horrible), it’s now being reported that his next project will see him venturing to ancient Rome for Pompeii.
Anderson has been signed to direct the disaster movie, which tells of the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in the year 79 A.D., which saw the Roman city completely buried in 4-6 meters of ash and pumice, hiding it from the world for 1,500 years before it was accidentally rediscovered in 1599. Since then many archaeological excavations have taken place and a large portion of the city has been uncovered once again, revealing many details of the people of Pompeii and what happened in those fateful days. [...]
