Watch The First Official Trailer & ‘Green Lantern’ Parody From ‘The Muppets’

The Movie God   |

A couple of new trailers have been released for Disney’s The Muppets, including another parody trailer as well as the first full official trailer for the movie.

As far as parodies go a few have been released, the first of which was a bit strange but still amusing. This new one is a parody of the just-released DC Comics superhero movie, Green Lantern, with a voice over reciting the Lantern’s oath before revealing it’s actually for The Muppets. A poster to go with the spoof trailer has also been released, with Kermit the Frog as a Lantern.

Then comes the first official trailer for the movie, which sets up the actual storyline and dedicates the whole trailer to Muppet goodness. You can see both trailers and the Kermit Green Lantern poster by continuing on below now. [...]

‘Jackass’ & G4′s ‘Proving Ground’ Star Ryan Dunn Dies In Car Accident

The Movie God   |

At around 3:00am Monday morning in Pennsylvania, one of the many stars of MTV’s Jackass, Ryan Dunn, was involved in a car accident that left him and one other dead. He was 34 years of age.

It was reported that Dunn and a companion were in a 2007 Porsche when it went over the guardrail and into some trees before catching fire, leaving almost nothing. Little more details to the crash have been released, but Dunn did post an image on Twitter of himself and some friends drinking. You can see the last image Dunn posted of himself as well as a picture of the horrific remains of his vehicle by heading to TMZ.

In addition to appearing on Jackass, he was also a part of the movies and various spinoffs the show spawned, including Viva La Bam! with co-star and good friend Bam Margera. It was Margera’s mother, April, who confirmed the news. [...]

Music Review: Black Country Communion ’2′

Black Country Communion
2
J&R Adventures
Produced by Kevin Shirley
Released June 14, 2011 U.S.: CD | MP3
June 13, 2011 UK: CD| MP3

Rock supergroups are often a collaboration amongst musicians when one or more of their respective bands goes belly up. Sometimes, however, they are formed when musicians are taking time away from being awesome in their ‘day job’ to be awesome elsewhere. This brings us to Black Country Communion, a supergroup made up of Glenn Hughes ( ‘the voice of rock’ of Deep Purple fame), Jason Bonham (son of late Led Zeppelin drummer), Derek Sherinian (formerly of Dream Theater), and the new blues king, Joe Bonamassa.

As much of a fan as I am on Glenn Hughes — Deep Purple’s Burn is without question one of the greatest rock albums of all time and You Are The Music…We’re Just The Band by his first band Trapeze is one of the most underrated albums of the ’70s — it was the inclusion of guitarist Joe Bonamassa which really piqued my interest in this band. For me, Bonamassa is one of the most exciting and talented blues rock musicians alive. His solo albums demonstrate his great talent in fusing traditional blues with the sheer power and sometimes frightening speed of rock; something which makes blues music more interesting and, quite frankly, cooler. He brings all this and more to the BCC table and to its second album, simply titled 2 [...]

Spoiler Talk: Green Lantern

Noel Penaflor   |

Week of Geek: Green Lantern

As far as mindless summer diversions go, Green Lantern isn’t that bad.

Had to pause before writing anything else because “isn’t that bad” is about as enthusiastic there is to get about Green Lantern. It’s a satisfactorily entertaining adaptation and one of the few movies whose FX are actually worth the gouge in price for a 3D viewing. In a world where 3D-ocrity rules, the visuals are such that it almost makes up for the substandard, bordering on generic, origin story. The most acutely negative thing I can write about the Green Lantern experience is that X-Men: First Class and Thor were released before it, perhaps setting the bar too high so that “adequate” is merely…adequate. At least you won’t be wondering why you bothered to pay for those worthless 3D glasses.

Time for some SPOILER TALK! Below are SPOILERS for Green Lantern. Feel free to add your thoughts in the Comments section.

The movie opens with a mealy-mouthed prologue involving “the emerald energy of Willpower.” What the f…never mind, just go with it. Anyway, since no one will be tested later, beings called Green Lanterns use this Emerald Energy as peacekeepers of the Universe. Okay. At last count there’s 3,600 Green Lanterns. Oddly specific. They each defend a certain Sector [...]

Book Review: The True Adventures of the World’s Greatest Stuntman

The Book Slave   |

The True Adventures of the World's Greatest Stuntman: My Life as Indiana Jones, James Bond, Superman and Other Movie Heroes
The True Adventures of the World’s Greatest Stuntman
My Life as Indiana Jones, James Bond, Superman and Other Movie Heroes
Hardcover | Kindle
By Vic Armstrong with Robert Sellers, Foreword by Steven Spielberg
Titan Books
Release Date: May 17, 2011

Vic Armstrong has been hiding in plain sight my entire life disguised as some of my favorite action-adventure characters. In his book, The True Adventures of the World’s Greatest Stuntman: My Life as Indiana Jones, James Bond, Superman and Other Movie Heroes, Armstrong takes us on the spectacular journey of his life that left me wondering who would be brave enough to play him in a movie. What a legacy! What a life! What a book!

In his own words, with the help of biographer Robert Sellers, the man who so closely resembled Harrison Ford that Ford’s little boy once took his hand and walked off with him by mistake tells his true life story beginning with a happy and industrious upbringing in England with loving parents and close siblings where his father’s work shoeing horses taught Armstrong about the care, hard work, and dedication to animals that filled the young lad with horseracing ambitions. His father’s work moved the family all the way to Kenya when Armstrong was just nine years old and set the stage for a long life of enthusiastic globetrotting. He writes, “Working with horses also instilled in me a great discipline. I’ve always been a disciplinarian and a believer in in mind over matter.” Recounting his childhood dream of becoming a steeplechase jockey literally starving himself to meet the weight requirements which, at over six feet tall, was no easy feat, Armstrong writes, “You force yourself to do these things. It builds character. You force yourself to do things you’re frightened of, heights and falls and stunts.” [...]

Watch Now: Gruesome ‘Conan The Barbarian’ Red Band Trailer

The Movie God   |

A new red band trailer for the upcoming Marcus Nispel remake, Conan the Barbarian, has been released, and it’s much more along the lines of what people want to see.

The first full trailer was intriguing enough, but the original 1982 Arnold Schwarzenegger movie was about a warrior tearing his way to vengeance against the man who killed his people, and with this new trailer it appears Nispel hasn’t held back on going all-out on the bloody revenge thing. That’s all we really care about with this movie, correct?

You can see the new Conan the Barbarian red band trailer by continuing on now. Be warned: because it is red, the trailer has plenty of NSFW goodies going on. [...]

Movie Review: Green Lantern

BAADASSSSS!   |

Green Lantern

Green Lantern
Directed by Martin Campbell
Starring Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Mark Strong, Peter Sarsgaard
Release date: June 17, 2011

I went into Green Lantern expecting a solid summer action movie and that’s exactly what I got. Therefore, I don’t get a lot of the hatred directed towards this film. Critics have been giving this long-gestating DC comic book adaptation a regular blanket party and for most of the same reasons that those same critics spazzed out over Thor. Personally I’ve never been a fan of the character and outside of some episodes of Super Friends and the occasional glance at an issue of the comic, I don’t even know that much about the Green Lantern. After seeing the movie, it’s evident I have some catching up to do. Good thing I have access to some of his recent appearances in animated DTV movie form [...]

Green Lantern 101: A Crash Course In The Mythology and Characters

MK2Fac3   |

Week of Geek: Green Lantern

In honor of today’s release of Green Lantern, I thought I’d take the time to sit down with you all and give you a little crash course on the mythology, terminology, and characters of this film. There’s much more to the mythology than what I’m going to go over, and far too many characters for one post. So here’s your beginner’s guide, Green Lantern 101, which should get you familiar enough with everything in the movie, so you don’t leave thinking “Wait, what was that?”

Mythology – The Green Lantern mythos is based around the concept that the universe is overseen by little blue aliens called “The Guardians of The Universe” who created the Green Lantern Corps close to the beginning of time as a universal police force. The entire universe is split into sectors, and one Green Lantern is assigned to each sector as its protector. The Guardians home planet is called “Oa” and it serves as the training ground for new members of the Green Lantern Corps. Members of the Corps are known by their color-coordinated outfits of green, white, and black, and by their green magic wishing ring which gives them the power to create laser beams or constructs. They create this weaponry by simply willing it, so the Green Lantern’s power is almost limitless. But, if you see a guy in yellow with a yellow wishing ring, watch out. He’s the bad guy [...]

Blu-ray Review: AC/DC: Let There be Rock 30th Anniversary Limited Edition

Culturesmash   |

AC/DC Let There Be Rock

AC/DC: Let There Be Rock
30th Anniversary Limited Collector’s Edition
Blu-ray | DVD
Directed by Eric Mistler, Eric Dionysius
Starring Bon Scott, Angus Young, Malcolm Young
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment
Release Date: June 7, 2011

Like them or not, the rock band AC/DC‘s influence on music cannot be denied. The three-cord jams of songs such as “Highway to Hell,” “If You want Blood (You’ve Got It,” and “You Shook Me All Night Long” continue to shape even modern rock which is so much different than that of the era of Bon Scott, AC/DC’s first (well sort of) singer.

Let There Be Rock is a classic concert film from 1979 (the last concert featuring lead singer Bon Scott who died soon after) featuring a mix of behind the scenes footage, interviews, and some other sort music video-ish set-up scenes to be played over the concert audio in various places. This film is easily one of the most successful concert films ever made, at least when it comes to truly capturing the energy of a performance. Lead guitarist Angus Young’s onstage schoolboy-garbed antics and his sizzling blues-infused guitar solos spearhead one of the greatest rhythm sections in rock n roll history. The band blazes through classic tunes such as “Sin City,” “Highway to Hell,” “TNT,” and the title tune “Let There Be Rock” with so much energy you’ll feel like you need earplugs just to watch the movie on your television, especially when Angus decides to literally hang off one of the giant speaker cabinets on stage [...]

Blu-ray Review: Green Lantern: Emerald Knights

Emerald Knights Cover

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights
Blu-ray | DVD | Video On Demand
Directed by: Chris Berkeley, Lauren Montgomery, Jay Oliva
Written by: Eddie Berganza, Alan Burnett, Todd Casey, Dave Gibbons, Michael Green, Marc Guggenheim, Geoff Johns, Peter J. Tomasi

Release Date: June 8, 2011

DC’s animation department has done a terrific job with all of their animated features showcasing some of the biggest names in DC’s library, and the next film in this legacy is the anthology style film, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. When I popped this into my Blu-ray player, honestly, I wasn’t sure to expect. I’ve been a fan, overall, of the DC animated films and their adaptation of All-Star Superman was almost perfect, it captured the heart and story of the comic while also making things cohesive for the animated medium. All-Star Superman is probably my favorite of the films, but I had an emotional tie to that story, and while I’ve loved the majority of these animated titles, I can’t say the same about Green Lantern: First Flight, the least favorite out of all the features [...]

‘The Hobbit’ Lands ‘Sherlock Holmes’ Star Benedict Cumberbatch For Smaug; Luke Evans Is Bard The Bowman

The Movie God   |

That last two major roles in Peter Jackson‘s two–part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien‘s classic story, The Hobbit, have now officially been filled.

Production on the movie is already underway in New Zealand but it’s being reported that Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing the feared dragon, Smaug. The actor was already part of the cast, voicing the role of Necromancer, but will now also provide the voice for the infamous dragon as well as bring it to life via the magic of performance capture.

Cumberbatch is perhaps best known for his work on the BBC Sherlock Holmes series, Sherlock, which also stars the man playing Bilbo Baggins, Martin Freeman. Cumberbatch looks to be a star on the rise with numerous projects on the way, including Steven Spielberg’s War Horse.

Also cast is Luke Evans, who will play the role of Bard the Bowman—a master archer and heir to the throne of Lord Girion of Dale. [...]
