First Look: ‘The Hobbit’ Dwarves Nori, Ori & Dori

The Hobbit - Nori, Ori, Dori

Director Peter Jackson, who’s working in full force on The Hobbit movies, has posted a first look at some of the Dwarves from the first film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey — the brothers, Dori, Nori, and Ori.

Check out the photo above (click for larger full, view).

The photo shows Jed Brophy as Nori, Adam Brown as Ori, and Mark Hadlow as Dori.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters on December 14, 2012 with its second part, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, to be released a year later on December 13, 2013.

Here’s the official description:

DORI, NORI & ORI: These three brothers, all sons of the same mother, could not be more different from each other. Dori, the oldest, spends much of his time watching out for Ori, the youngest; making sure he’s not caught a chill or got himself killed by Wargs or Goblins. Nobody quite knows what Nori gets up to most of the time, except that it’s guaranteed to be dodgy and quite probably, illegal. Dori, Nori and Ori are intensely loyal to each other – and whilst they are perfectly happy fighting amongst themselves, woe-betide anyone who means harm to one of these brothers.

In Tolkien’s descriptions of Bilbo’s thirteen dwarf companions in The Hobbit novel, each has a colorful hood that they remove and hang up in Bilbo’s house during their discussions of their upcoming journey. (A photo I’d love to see is all thirteen hoods hung up in a row.) So far, it appears that the costuming in the film is similar to that of Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, with its dark tones. The make-up effects are vastly improved from ten years ago when John Rhys-Davies, in heavy prosthetics and special-effects makeup, brought the dwarf Gimli to life on the big screen in Lord of the Rings.

What do you think of Dori, Nori and Ori’s look?

  1. Apparently Dori will be the “fighter”, Nori will be the “cleric” (Is that the Mazarbûl book?) and Nori the “rogue”…
