Lionsgate has just released a new red band clip from their upcoming Conan the Barbarian 3D. You can watch the new clip here below.
It’s a 3-minute clip showing young Conan kicking serious ass after being ambushed by enemies of his people in a snowy forest. It’s a damn good scene loaded with plenty of spilled blood, severed heads, and broken bones. I can certainly get behind some quality carnage any day so this was a nice little surprise to wake up to. But the scene starts off strangely with Kid Conan (Hey there’s a potential franchise), played by Leo Howard, and some of the other kids in his village having to run through the forest and up some hills while carrying eggs in their mouths. Seriously. Is this how Cimmerians are trained for battle? Ron Perlman is in this clip giving the speech that can be heard in the trailers about when a Cimmerian feels thirst it’s for blood and when he feels cold it’s the cold edge of steel and yada yada yada, but I’m trying to figure out how eggs fit into the equation. At least the egg bit has a nice payoff at the end of the scene.
I’m getting the feeling that even if this new Conan isn’t a great movie it will still be a top guilty pleasure this year, more in the class of Drive Angry than Green Lantern. Thank Crom for that.
Conan the Barbarian 3D, directed by Marcus Nispel and starring Jason Momoa, Rachel Nichols, Stephen Lang, Rose McGowan, and Ron Perlman, opens on August 19, 2011.
