Top 5 Underrated Captain America Villains
Jack Bauerstein83   |

Week of Geek: Captain America: The First Avenger

If you have read Captain America comics since you were a wee lad like me, then you are probably excited about Marvel’s newest blockbuster Captain America: The First Avenger.

I for one can hardly wait to see the Star Spangled Avenger appear on the silver screen for the first time, mixing it up with his arch enemies Hydra and the Red Skull. While these villains are certainly not to be underestimated, there are quite a few Cap villains that are. We at Geeks of Doom believe that every dog deserves his day so we are proud to present Top 5 Underrated Captain America Villains.

These villains might be underrated for a reason, but someone out there digs them. Continue reading to see who makes the list!

Top 5 underrated Captain America Villains: Flag Smasher

Flag Smasher
Don’t feel bad for Karl Morgenthau. Sure, he is number five on the list but he has so much going for him. He was the son of a Swiss Diplomat, his choice of weaponry includes a spiked mace and a shield, and he was one of the few Captain America foes to give him a run for his money.

Sadly, our Swiss friend was assassinated not too long ago, but his name lives on as another man has taken his name. You should feel bad for that guy, though, since his arm was recently eaten by Venom. Hope he can swing his mace with his left hand.

Top 5 underrated Captain America Villains: Master Man

Master Man
If Steve Rogers is the American Super Soldier then Wilhelm Lohmer is his exact opposite. Like Rogers, Lohmer was also a frail American born boy but his allegiance was with Hitler and the Nazis. When Germans created their own Super Serum, Lohmer was the first in line, thus creating Master Man. Master Man’s abilities rivaled that of Captain America’s but the powers turned out to only be temporary. All for the best really, because who can take a super villain named Master Man anyway? Why he wasn’t named Captain Nazi or something is beyond me.

Top 5 underrated Captain America Villains: Taskmaster

Taskmaster
Of all the underrated villains in Cap’s rogue gallery, Tony Masters (aka Taskmaster) has to be the baddest of the bunch. Injecting himself with the steroid that unlocks the brain’s true potential, Masters developed the power of super human muscle memory. If he sees it, he remembers how to do it. Once he has memorized his opponent’s moves, he then has the ability to predict their next move. Over the last few years, Marvel has pushed Taskmaster to the forefront but I think an appearance in the next Cap movie should push him over the edge in popularity.

Top 5 underrated Captain America Villains: Batroc

Batroc
By all accounts, Batroc should not be taken seriously. One look at the mustache, goofy costume, and stereotypical French accent should tell you why. Yet, something about this character really appeals to me. Maybe it is because he is bounces around like a Parkour enthusiast or maybe it is his sense of humor. Either way, I would love to see more Batroc in the future and Marvel writers agree. He was in the pages of Captain America not too long ago, holding his own against the Star Spangled Avenger. This guy is just waiting for his moment in the sun.

Top 5 underrated Captain America Villains: MODOK

Modok
I have to tell you a little secret. Modok is not really an underrated Captain America villain. Yes, he was created in the pages of Captain America but a lot has changed. Over the last couple of years, he has become the villain for many other superheroes (Iron Man and Hulk to name a few) and has developed quite a fan following. He hasn’t tangled much with Captain America in a while either, so why is he number one? Because he is a giant head with arms and legs sitting on a chair, people! Look at how gloriously awesome he is? The man needs to be number 1 on some list. I only hope that in future Marvel movies we will all get a chance to see Modok in all its hideously beautiful glory on the silver screen.

Master Man isn’t called Captain Nazi because DC already has a character by that name .

I really want Batroc to be in captain America 2. I would love it if it was the story where Batroc turns on his employers helping cap in the end.

taskmaster doesn’t inject himself he was born like that he watched a diver at 10 yrs old and almost drowned..
