First Look: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Teaser Poster Is Awesome
 |
Posted by MK2Fac3 | July 11th, 2011 at 11:30 pm |

The brand new teaser poster has hit the web for The Dark Knight Rises.
Check it out here below.
The poster image shows a decaying Gotham City framing the famous Christopher Nolan Bat Symbol.
This new image has teased me more than enough to get me excited for the new teaser trailer attached to theatrical screenings of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2, which is set to be released this weekend. This is about the time where we’ll see a lot more in the vein of marketing for the third and final installment in Nolan’s Batman films, so be prepared to for even more Dark Knight Rises awesomeness to be hitting your eye holes [...]

Blu-ray Review: The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy Extended Edition

The Lord of the Rings
The Motion Picture Trilogy – Extended Edition
Blu-ray
Directed by Peter Jackson
Starring Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Orlando Bloom
Warner Home Video
Release date: June 28, 2011
If you want to turn a hit theatrical franchise into a long-term moneymaker in Hollywood, it’s all about the home video releases. Sequels or prequels are an often shaky proposition (see The Godfather, Part III and Star Wars Episodes I, II, III, for example.) If you or your company own one or more films with a solid cult following, however, home video releases can be the gift that keeps on giving, usually at reasonable cost and low risk to revenue. George Lucas is a proven master at this, hauling out a new home video revision of one or more of his Star Wars films that highlights some new video format, some different cut of the film (including a reversion back to the original theatrical release), some new documentary extra, or even a preview of some upcoming Star Wars project. Likewise Francis Ford Coppola has cut and re-cut The Godfather films into releases like The Godfather Saga and The Epic Godfather box set that added material and joined scenes in chronological order, as well as offer re-masters like The Godfather DVD Collection and The Godfather: the Coppola Restoration. Some studios and directors take this process even further with direct-to-video revisions of flawed but remembered chapters of well-known franchises like Paramount and Robert Wise did with Star Trek: The Motion Picture The Director’s Edition [...]

Comic Review: Elric: The Balance Lost #1

Elric: The Balance Lost #1
Elric created by Michael Moorcock
Written by Chris Roberson
Art by Francesco Biagini
BOOM! Studios
$3.99
Release date: July 6, 2011
“Blood and souls for my Lord Arioch!”
Even after thirty years, that always makes my heart race. Michael Moorcock’s Elric saga was the first true fantasy series that I devoured, much like Neil Gaiman mentions in the afterward of Elric: The Balance Lost #1, the beginning of a new comic book series from BOOM! Studios. I read everything that I could lay my hands on that was in the Eternal Champion series: Elric, Hawkmoon, Corum, Erekose, Cornelius, you name it and I read it. Again and again. I have the original comics from the 1980′s based on Moorcock’s original Elricbooks. I sought out all the early 70′s Daw printings of the series. Heck, I even bought a copy of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Deities and Demigods just because it contained the Melniboné mythos in there.
Have I convinced you that I’m flat-out obsessed with this character(s)? Good, because now you need to go buy this comic book. Right now. Go. Need a little more convincing? Fine, read on [...]

New ‘Conan the Barbarian 3D’ Character Poster Released

That title might be a bit misleading so let me clear it up right off the bat: the actual poster is not in 3D.
Got that? Okay then.
Back to what I was originally going to say. Lionsgate has released the latest poster for their 3D Conan the Barbarian movie, and while it looks very nice it’s pretty standard as far as movie posters go. Check out the poster here below (click on the thumbnail for larger, full version) [...]

Book Review: Yo Momma So Extraordinary

Yo Momma So Extraordinary
By Zachary Reese & Ethan McCreadie
Paperback
Quirk Books
Release Date: April 5, 2011
Yo Momma So Extraordinary reminds me of a Saturday Night Live-type skit in which the classic “yo momma” insult joke is turned around and made distinctly unfunny on purpose. Meant to be tongue-in-cheek, these un-jokes are supposed to set right all the wrongs done to mothers all across the globe by such standards as, “Yo momma so fat, when she sits around the house, she sits AROUND the house.”
In this book, Zachary Reese and Ethan McCreadie bring us new classics, such as, “Yo momma so conscientious, she asks me to ‘wrap it up’ even though we all know she’s been through menopause” and “Yo momma so loving and accepting that I almost feel a little guilty about what we did. Almost.” [...]

Music Review: Philip Sayce – ‘Ruby Electric’
 |
Posted by Obi-Dan | July 10th, 2011 at 11:48 am |

Philip Sayce
Ruby Electric
Produced by Dave Cobb and Eddie Kramer
Provogue
Released July 18, 2011 (UK) CD | MP3
Recently blues rock has seen a resurgence in quality in new, young musicians. Far from imitating their parents’ record collection, the devil’s new breed is creating blues rock that is entirely their own. Wah-wahing his way to the front of the pack is Philip Sayce with his debut album Ruby Electric. But unlike blues godfather Robert Johnson, I’m pretty sure Sayce did not consort with His Unholiness to unleash his devilish talent.
Welsh-born, Canadian-raised Sayce is a very talented guitarist with some imaginative solos. His guitar licks are a mixture of Jimmy Page and John Frusciante; lots of choppy blues funk but can pull out a rocking tune like the no-messin’ “Take You Away.” For me the very best of the young blues players is Joe Bonamassa, and Sayce has the serious talent to wail on that fretboard alongside him [...]

New ‘Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil’ Poster Released

A new poster has been released for the indie horror–comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. The movie stars Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Transformers: Dark of the Moon) and Tyler Labine (Reaper, Rise of the Planet of the Apes) as a couple of hillbillies who are mistaken for serial killers by a bunch of college kids who have seen far too many horror movies.
As you could see in the trailer, the movie is right along the same lines as other popular horror–comedies such as Shaun of the Dead, Slither, and Zombieland. It arrives in select theaters on September 30, 2011, but will also be available on video on demand services starting August 26. The two stars and director Eli Craig will also be making an appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic–Con convention.

Watch Now: ‘The Hobbit’ Production Video #2

Director Peter Jackson has posted to his Facebook page the second production video blog from the set of The Hobbit movies in New Zealand.
This new video blog was shot at the end of the first block of filming just as many of the cast and crew were going off on break until September, so there’s interview footage of everyone saying what they are going to do during this time off. As you’ll see, Jackson will only be stepping back from directing, as he still has to do script rewrites, video editing, and location scouting, as well as other responsibilities. The video shows some of the beautiful locations they are looking into using, as well as new sets. There’s also some behind-the-scenes footage from the film, including Andy Serkis doing a motion-capture scene as Gollum (Serkis is also a second-unit director on the film), as well as a snippet of a scene with Bilbo (Martin Freeman) and Elrond (Hugo Weaving) [...]

‘Space Invaders’ Is The Next Classic Game To Get A Movie Treatment

Unless you’ve been hibernating for the last decade or two, you know that Hollywood will make a movie based on pretty much any video game, toy, or theme park ride. It’s something that we’ve grown used to over the years, and sometimes the movies actually end up being a lot of fun.
The next classic game to get the movie treatment is one that any game fan born before 1990 has most likely played at least once in their lifetime: Space Invaders.
The arcade game comes from designer Tomohiro Nishikado, and was first released by Japanese company Taito Corporation in 1978, and then in the United States through Midway Games.
Because it’s an arcade game, there’s not a whole lot of story going on here. This isn’t a movie that writes itself…not in the least. That leaves producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Gigi Pritzker of Odd Lot Entertainment—who joined forces to option the rights to and develop the movie adaptation together—currently seeking the perfect writer to structure a story out of the property. [...]
