Geek Peek: First Look At ‘The Blind Side’ Star Lily Collins As Snow White

In the race of Snow White projects, Relativity Media seems intent on winning at all levels. The studio has the earliest release date (March 16, 2012), and now they’ve released the first official image from their movie…which doesn’t even officially have a title yet.
In the movie, Lily Collins (daughter of the legendary Phil Collins and star of The Blind Side and Abduction) appears as Snow, while Julia Roberts will be playing her stepmother and the Evil Queen, Game of Thrones star Sean Bean is King and father to Snow, and The Social Network star Armie Hammer is playing a prince and love interest. Tarsem Singh (The Cell, Immortals) is directing the movie.
The first official image from the movie shows Collins as Snow White, and you can see the pic by heading on over to the other side now. [...]

Joss Whedon’s ‘The Cabin In The Woods’ Acquired By Lionsgate; Official Release Set For 2012

Fans of horror movies and the work of Joss Whedon alike have been wondering for a long, long time now just what in the hell was going on with The Cabin in the Woods, the horror movie he co–wrote with Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) a couple of years back now. The movie originally had a 2009 release date, but the many complications recently faced by MGM kept it locked away in limbo.
Those desperately excited to see the movie have been waiting for its savior since that time, even going so far as to make a Facebook page asking for the release of the movie in hopes that fan support would speed things along.
It took a lot of waiting, but Lionsgate has now officially acquired the worldwide distribution rights for the movie, and they have also set the final (we hope) release date for The Cabin in the Woods. Fans will finally be able to check it out on April 13, 2012, unless of course the studio decides there’s a better date between now and then and changes it again. [...]

SDCC 2011: ‘Hack/Slash’ Meets ‘Hatchet’ In New Image One-Shot

Tim Seeley, writer of Hack/Slash, announced at the Image Comics panel on Friday at San Diego Comic-Con 2011 that he is shepherding a crossover book with the film Hatchet based in his universe, to be released in November.
It turns out that Seeley is good friends with the director of Hatchet, Adam Green and the two of them decided that it makes sense that the two worlds cross in comic book form. It does make sense that Cassie, the heroine of Hack/Slash who travels from town to town killing monsters and serial killers, takes on Victor Crowley the retro serial killer featured in Hatchet. The one-shot releases on November and Seeley believes that this particular issue will indeed not be nominated for an Eisner award [...]

SDCC 2011: First Look At ‘Snow White and The Huntsman’ Actors In Costume

The cast and crew of the forthcoming film Snow White and the Huntsman were on call Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con 2011 to shed some light on their take on the classic story, and give a first look at the actors in costume (see photos here below.)
The panel featured Kristen Stewart (Snow White), Charlize Theron (The Queen), Chris Hemsworth (The Huntsman), Sam Claflin (The Prince), and director Rupert Sanders, who many may know as the guy responsible for directing the popular Call of Duty: Black Ops commercial and the Halo ODST commercial.
Obviously, Sanders has the ability to create high-concept scenes with lots of action, but the fact that he’s drawn to producing a film like Snow White is kind of intriguing.
“I see at a lot of films that look great but there’s no heart in it,” Sanders said during the panel. “I think it’s important to give people an emotional ride.”
Sanders describes his film as a very stylized, high action/energy film, which is very different than the other Snow White feature film being produced [...]

SDCC 2011: Tarsem Singh’s ‘Immortals’ Panel

By Andrew Sorcini
Cinephiles have followed visionary director Tarsem Singh‘s stunning visual spectacles for years in films like The Cell and The Fall. As a fan of his films, my only regret has been that as an indie director his work has been somewhat overlooked by mainstream audiences. With Immortals being produced by the producers of 300, Tarsem finally has the opportunity to helm a true tentpole epic.
At the Immortals panel today at San Diego Comic-Con 2011 included Tarsem, 300 producers Mark Canton and Gianni Nunnari, and cast members Freida Pinto as the Oracle, Stephen Dorff as Stavros, Luke Evans as Zeus, Kellan Lutz as Poseidon, and (future Superman) Henry Cavill as Theseus.
Tarsem revealed that the actual film is quite darker in tone than recent ads have revealed.
Footage shown was an amazing visual feast for the eyes. Imagine a cross between 300, Spartacus: Blood & Sand, or Troy, but completely in 3D, and on an exponentially more epic scale. Diamond arrows, golden armor, and thousands of warriors shed blood across the screen in terrific stylized slow motion [...]

SDCC 2011: WTF Is ‘Twixt’? Coppola Explains

Director Francis Ford Coppola debuted footage from his new movie called Twixt, a new non-linear film making experience that incorporates live performances (music and narration) and both 2D and 3D sequences.
If you’re confused by that description, then you are not alone. I didn’t actually know what I was watching when Coppola played the first clip — even after an explanation to the audience.
Basically, Coppola wants to create a movie that can be performed, unlike the current crop of “canned” movies, which are what you see is what you get. Using new software, the director is able to play portions of scenes in different order. Both the narration and the film’s music, done by performance artist Dan Deacon, also has to be altered based on how the new scenes are arranged.
“Why do movies have to be ‘canned’? Everything is canned. The only things we have that’s live are concerts and sports,” Coppola said, adding that his granddaughter describes the excitement of seeing a movie on its premiere night because no one knows whether it’ll be good or bad.
“There is a yearning, I feel, for a little bit more of the live to be put back into film,” he explained [...]

Spider-Man Baddie The Lizard Arrested At San Diego Comic-Con (Seriously)

Actor Rhys Ifans, who portrays super-villain The Lizard in the forthcoming Amazing Spider-Man feature film, was arrested Friday on charges of misdemeanor battery for shoving a female security guard.
The incident took place just prior to a cast panel for the film at San Diego Comic-Con, reports The Wrap.
According to police, Ifans smelled of alcohol and became irate when a member of his entourage was denied access to the panel room at the convention. Ifans then shoved the guard, but was allowed to participate in the panel. The accosted security guard subsequently made a citizen’s arrest, according to The Wrap [...]

Starz Unleashes ‘Vengeance’ With ‘Spartacus’ Season 2 Teaser Trailer!

No, it’s not the longest and best trailer ever released (that will be releasing next week), but Starz has unveiled the very first mini–trailer—more of a TV spot, really—for the upcoming second season of their hit original series, Spartacus, this time dropping the Blood and Sand and going with Spartacus: Vengeance.
According to Entertainment Weekly, show creator Steven DeKnight revealed during the show’s Comic–Con panel that the title is not only about Spartacus’s vengeance, but also that of a few other characters you’ll very much recognize. He also shared that this new season will be huge and that tons of people are going to die (rut-roh!)…especially in one specific episode.
You can see the first TV spot trailer for Spartacus: Vengeance below now!
Newly crowned Spartacus Liam McIntyre was also on–hand, and spoke about replacing Andy Whitfield. The actor said “I was a fan. I would have been sitting down there [in the audience]. All of a sudden, I find myself sitting up here. Everyone can agree Andy was amazing. The best thing I can do is bust my ass and honor that legacy trying to make season 2 as amazingly exciting as season 1. And that’s all I can do.” [...]

Movie Review: Captain America: The First Avenger

Captain America: The First Avenger
Directed by Joe Johnston
Starring Chris Evan, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Tommy Lee Jones
Release Date: July 22, 2011
In 1992, 9-year-old me entered a video store and struck gold. Among the shelves and shelves of VHS tapes was a single copy of Captain America: The Movie. Already a comic (not to mention Captain America) fan, you can only imagine how excited I was to view what I assumed would be a masterpiece. The movie was anything but and left much to be desired, but 9-year-old me loved the hell out of it. Despite its shortcomings and flaws, watching Captain America throw his shield for the first time just blew my mind. Fast forward to nearly 20 years later, I wondered if the latest Marvel Studios movie, Captain America: The First Avenger would do the very same thing.
With America just stepping into World War II, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) wanted nothing more than to serve his country. Despite being constantly rejected by recruitment agencies due to his meek size, Rogers’ unflagging persistence pays off and catches the attention of a scientist by the name of Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci). Erskine enlists him in a top secret super solider program. Injected with a Super-Soldier serum and bathed in “Vita Rays,” Rogers is transformed into a perfect human specimen. He becomes more than just a super soldier, but a symbol for America. He becomes Captain America [...]

SDCC 2011: ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Panel, Footage Description & Video Of Andrew Garfield Surprise

Unfortunately for The Amazing Spider–Man, their trailer leaked a tad early, leading Columbia Pictures to just release it for all to see (unfortunately for them, maybe, but good for those of us excited about the movie!). Surely if the trailer hadn’t have leaked they could have wowed everyone at Comic–Con with it before releasing it, but they still were sure to bring a little something extra to show off.
The panel kicked off with said trailer, this time in 3D to add a little bit new to the mix, before someone dressed in a low–budget Spider–Man costume came up to the microphone going on about how excited they were to be there. After a bit, the person removes their mask to reveal that it’s the new Spidey himself, Andrew Garfield, who then talks about how much the superhero means to him and how much it changed his life growing up.
Garfield then introduced the rest of the panel—his co–star and female lead, Emma Stone, director Marc Webb, and producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach—before removing the costume and joining them. Co–star Rhys Ifans was the surprise guest later in the panel.

SDCC 2011: ‘Total Recall’ Panel & Footage Description

The Total Recall remake is still over a year away, but the cast and crew were on hand in hopes of building a solid buzz for the movie early. Director Len Wiseman comes out, joined by stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Bryan Cranston, Jessical Biel, and John Cho.
Wiseman says they’re only halfway through filming (and probably shouldn’t be showing anything off yet), but they’re going to show off something anyway. Hooray for pleasing the masses!
Continue reading for more from the panel and descriptions of the footage shown.
A portion of the footage shown was just animated storyboards, and a lot of shots were without the visual effects completed, but nevertheless, you can still get a good feel of where they’re going with the movie.
The footage begins with Farrell as Douglas Quaid talking to someone, asking them if they’re happy with the way that their life turned out. He then asks about a place called Recall, with a response warning him to avoid it. [...]

SDCC 2011: ‘Torchwood’ Cast Panel Featuring A Singing John Barrowman

Cast members from Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood shared their thoughts on the new installment of the series Miracle Day currently airing on BBC and Starz during a panel discussion Friday at the San Diego Comic-Con.
John Barrowman, who plays the show’s star character Captain Jack Harkness, said he was delighted when he heard the news that Starz had picked up the show for another season. The actor told fans his character may have a possible love interest in episode 7 of the new series.
Continue reading for more, as well as a video from the panel and a special Comic-Con preview of Torchwood: Miracle Day.
He also said not to expect an explanation of where Jack went at the end of Children of Earth (the last Torchwood installment).
“Make up what you want,” Barrowman said. “I just think Jack had a great time with Alonso.” [...]

SDDC 2011: Photos From The Convention Floor, Preview Night
 |
Posted by Dave3 | July 23rd, 2011 at 2:43 am |

We GoDs took to the convention floor on Wednesday night at Comic-Con International 2011 here in San Diego, CA, for Preview night to check out the sights. Sadly, there weren’t too many cosplayers in attendance at the time, but there were a lot of cool signings and giveaways going on at every turn.
We ransacked the WB booth and came away with a haul of cool Harry Potter buttons; hit AMC’s Walking Dead booth and watched some brave convention goers willingly handcuff themselves to an Atlanta ‘rooftop’ alongside an eerily lifelike Merle Dixon (Michael Rooker) statue; and stopped by the IDW booth to score a Comic-Con exclusive Locke & Key replica ‘Head’ key for our very own Henchman21 (who’s presence at here SDCC this year is sorely missed). We did stop by the Summit Entertainment booth, where each year we’ve been able to score some Twilight goodies for our readers, but just as we got to the line, they closed it down [...]

SDCC 2011: ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance’ Panel

By Andrew Sorcini
It’s no secret that in the last few years Nicolas Cage’s career has taken a turn for the bizarre and outrageous, with films like Bangkok Dangerous, Bad Lieutenant, and Drive Angry. And likewise, directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor have been pushing the envelope for years with gonzo films like Crank and Gamer. So what sort of batshit insane movie could possibly come from the collaboration of these two unpredictable forces? San Diego Comic-Con audiences got a peek today with a preview of Neveldine/Taylor’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, a sequel to the 2007 original.
The panel began with a montage showing off the gonzo shooting style of Neveldine/Taylor as they operated their cameras right alongside the stuntmen, rollerblading along with speeding cars, and hanging off swinging rigs. In fact, they proudly proclaimed they wouldn’t ask the stuntmen to do anything they wouldn’t do themselves, and vow that if any stuntmen are injured during shooting, they promise those takes would be in the film [...]
