SDCC 2011 Video: ‘Game Of Thrones’ Producers Reveal Details About Season 2, Future Seasons

Game of Thrones executive producers/writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss discussed how long it would take to adapt future books in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series to television during a panel discussion today at the San Diego Comic-Con 2011.
While the first season was able to adapt the entirety of the first book, that formula may have to change.
“If we’re lucky enough, if we have a season three, that’s when it won’t start corresponding so deeply to the books,” Benioff said. “Storm of Swords [the third book in the series] is just too big to do as one season. We don’t know yet whether it’ll be one and a half seasons, maybe it’s three seasons.” [...]

SDCC 2011: Jim Steranko’s ‘Red Tide’ To Be Reissued

During the Dark Horse Presents panel today at San Diego Comic-Con 2011 an icon of the world of comics rose from the audience and took the stage to announced that one of his classic graphic novels will be reissued by Dark Horse Comics.
Red Tide was originally published in 1976 and was Steranko’s attempt at bringing true suspense to the world of comics. Steranko explained: “I realized pretty early on that there was this intensity in film that I never got anywhere else. I had this idea that there is a way to make this form {comics} more suspenseful. That’s one of the reasons I did Red Tide.” He further explained how he took this story outside the normal paneled, word ballooned, and captioned formula of comics and tried to utilize some of what makes regular novels successful at building intensity and suspense with words. He showed in a presentation how he broke his pages into thirds with two images and text [...]

SDCC 2011: ‘Fright Night’ Panel
By Andrew Sorcini

The Fright Night panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2011 included director Craig Gillespie, writer Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and actors Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and last (but not least) as moderator, Chris Sarandon (from the original Fright Night).
Craig Gillespie was drawn to direct the remake because of how well the original was written. Writer Noxon was also drawn to updating the vampire genre for a modern audience.
Then they played a clip in which Mintz-Plasse’s character, Evil Ed, compares villain Jerry Dandridge (Farrell) to “the shark from Jaws,” a non-stop eating machine.
Farrell was reluctant to play Dandridge because he felt intimidated by Sarandon’s incredible performance in the original film. He was pleased by the fact that Noxon had updated the characters enough to make them their own [...]

SDCC 2011: Andrew Niccol’s ‘In Time’ Panel; Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried Show Time Is Literally Money

Almost a year ago, we were beginning to hear about a new science fiction thriller called I’m.mortal, which was putting together a cast that included Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, and Cillian Murphy. The movie certainly sounded interesting, and thanks to this year’s San Diego Comic–Con, we now know it looks pretty darn interesting, as well!
The movie, whose title has since been changed to In Time, is set in a future where we’ve perfected everlasting life and everyone stops aging at the age of 25, but in order to protect from overpopulation, time is now used in lieu of money as a currency. This leaves the rich to live as long as they’d like, and the less–fortunate fighting to keep living. Everyone is genetically engineered to die one year after turning 25, so if you’re unable to replenish your time, you will not last long.
Keep reading for more and to see some images from the panel! [...]

SDCC 2011: Edgar Wright Talks Cornetto Trilogy

Edgar Wright was on hand to promote the new alien indie horror Attack the Block today at San Diego Comic-Con 2011.
During the panel’s audience Q&A, a fan asked Wright for an update on his Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy, also known as Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy, which consists of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and a planned third film, The World’s End. The first two films star Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in the lead roles (but as different characters), and the trio will work together on the final movie too. Whenever Wright does an interview or panel, the question of the third movie inevitably comes up [...]

SDCC 2011: First Trailer From ‘The Raven’ Debuts

James McTeigue, director of The Raven, made an appearance at the Relativity Media panel today at San Diego Comic-Con 2011 to debut the trailer for the upcoming thriller. Also on the panel were stars John Cusack, Alice Eve, and Luke Evans. They all talked about filming the movie in Serbia during winter and also about their research regarding Poe’s life and his stories. Alice Eve talked about getting mouthfuls of dirt while filming her “buried alive” scenes.
The film revolves around the last five days of author Edgar Allan Poe‘s life in the mid-1800s in Baltimore. In real life, little is known about those days, so the filmmakers took the liberty of turning that time into a murder-mystery based on Poe’s actual stories. In The Raven, Poe (played by John Cusack) must team up with a young inspector detective (Luke Evans) to find a serial killer who’s murdering his victims based on events from Poe’s macabre tales.

SDCC 2011: Steven Spielberg & Peter Jackson Wow Fans At ‘The Adventures of Tintin’
By Andrew Sorcini
The The Adventures of Tintin panel began with something very special for the Comic-Con audience today in San Diego: a retrospective of Steven Spielberg‘s career, and the presentation of Comic-Con’s Inkpot lifetime achievement award to the respected filmmaker himself, which he receieved to a standing ovation.
Spielberg discussed how even before he knew about Tintin, his films had been compared to Herge’s work for years. When preparing to develop the film, he approached Weta to ask them to show him a test of Tintin’s dog Snowball, to see if CGI would be a proper medium. He then showed that presumed test, which featured producer Peter Jackson as Capt. Haddock, with a CGI Snowy behind him, performing tricks and getting drunk from Haddock’s whiskey.

SDCC 2011: Robert Rodriguez Going Ahead With ‘Sin City’, ‘Machete’ Sequels via Quick Draw

Robert Rodriguez announced yesterday at San Diego Comic-Con 2011 that he is launching a new production company called Quick Draw. This company will work alongside Troublemaker to get his projects made. Troublemaker is his production company working within the studio system and Quick Draw will be his outlet for self-financed projects working outside the standard Hollywood system.
His first two projects coming from Quick Draw will be Sin City 2 and Machete 2. In a roundtable interview, Rodriguez shared that he really felt the need to finance and own his own projects after the Disney/Miramax split where neither the Weinsteins nor he himself owned his films. At this point the scripts for both films are nearly complete. Once he’s happy with the stories he’ll go right into production through Quick Draw, no waiting for money from Hollywood [...]

Watch Now: Three New ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ Clips

With the San Diego Comic-Con in full swing, 20th Century Fox presented three new clips at the Con on Thursday for Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The film’s star Andy Serkis was at the panel to introduce the clips, one of which was a Comic-Con exclusive.
You can watch all three clips here below.
Featuring a 15-second introduction by Serkis, who portrays the lead ape character Caesar through a combination of beautifully-rendered CGI and performance capture, the brief clip, titled “The Awakening,” follows Caesar as he prepares to lead his fellow chimps in a mass breakout while their keeper, played by Brian Cox, remains none the wiser. Not much to see here that hasn’t been featured extensively in the film’s trailers and TV spots, but we are treated to some extra shots of the apes coming together for the eventual uprising. I’m still trying to figure out how the gas canisters Caesar releases play into the whole situation: is it supposed to have the same intelligence-increasing effect on the others as the gene therapy treatment had on him? Who’s to say? [...]

SDCC 2011: Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’ Panel Covers 3D, ‘Alien’ Ties, PG–13 Rating

The highly anticipated panel for Ridley Scott‘s sorta–kind but not really Alien prequel, Prometheus, was held at San Diego Comic–Con 2011 on Thursday, and things that will excite you as well as things that may make you a little uneasy were discussed.
The panel opened with moderator (and screenwriter) Damon Lindelof, who is of course one of the main men behind one of the greatest TV shows of all time, LOST. Lindelof gets things rolling with a story of how he came to be the writer Ridley chose to pen what would be the final draft used for the movie, before jumping right into a footage presentation.
Continue reading for MUCH more, a footage description, and some images from the panel!
The first thing shown is basically a video montage of Scott’s past works with the declaration that he’s returning to the genre he redefined. Then they get to Prometheus, first with a look at the massive sets they’re shooting on before getting into actual movie footage with a little voice over work from Scott himself (who appeared later on in the panel live via satellite with star Noomi Rapace from Iceland, where they’re filming they film’s opening). George R. R. Martin, author of the books the hit HBO TV series Game of Thrones is based on, expressed his praise of the show while moderating a cast panel on Thursday at San Diego Comic-Con 2011.
During the panel, Martin alluded to the possibility of bringing back one of the actors whose character had been killed off in the first season. SDCC 2011: ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1′ Premieres Exclusive Footage

Most people that don’t attend Comic-Con in San Diego probably won’t know this, but when any film in the Twilight franchise has a presence at the Con, the fans come out in droves. And not only do they show up, they show up days in advance and camp out on the line to get into Hall H, the 6,500-seater where most movie studios bring their latest offerings.
This year, Summit Entertainment is promoting The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, so of course, a campsite was erected and eager fans awaited their chance to see the film’s stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, as well as exclusive footage from the upcoming film.
Those devoted fans were rewarded with said exclusive footage, which you can read a description of here below (we also have tons of pics of the stars from the panel). The footage showed Bella and Edward arriving to their honeymoon destination, so we got to see a shirtless Edward and a disrobing Bella, and some other stuff. Captain America 101: A Crash Course In The Terminology and Characters
 |
Posted by MK2Fac3 | July 21st, 2011 at 11:37 pm |

The world loves superhero movies. For every release, it seems that audiences can’t wait to see the next superhero flick. And see it you will. Because if there’s one thing that people love more than the average movie, it’s Harry Potter. But now that Harry Potter’s done, you have time for more superhero movies! Yay! But, if you’re anything like the rest of the world’s population, based on sales, you probably don’t read a lot of comics and you might be a little confused by the convoluted plot lines and science fiction elements you see in these films. It may be a little tough for the average moviegoer, but that’s why I’m here!
So, in honor of this week’s Captain America: The First Avenger, I’m going to take the time to sit down with each and every one of you in a feature I like to call Captain America 101 to discuss some of the characters and terminology that you’ll be seeing in this weekend’s #1 movie, that is, unless the world decides to see Harry Potter again, but I digress.
Let’s get to it, soldier! [...]

Relativity Media Announces Live–Action ‘Voltron’ Based On ‘Defender Of The Universe’

Relativity Media has announced that they have optioned the feature film rights to Voltron from World Event Productions, and that they plan on making a live–action feature based on the popular 1984 animated series, Voltron: Defender of the Universe. The hopes are that this can turn into a big new franchise for the studio.
Charles Roven and Richard Suckle of Atlas Entertainment brought the opportunity to Relativity, and they will act as shepherds to the development of the movie.
Voltron follows five young warriors who all pilot powerful high–tech Robot Lions that, when necessary, can join together to create a massive force called Voltron. The team uses these robots and the ability to form into Voltron to defend the galaxy from any threats that may arise.
The animated series’ original run was only from 1984 to 1985, but the show and characters have remained popular over time, with new animated series arriving in 1998 and again right here in 2011 on Nicktoons. Movie adaptations of the series have been talked about for a long while, but nothing has ever quite worked out. [...]

New Line Opts Not To Remake ‘Escape From New York’

New Line Cinema and Warner Brothers Pictures have decided not to remake the Kurt Russell cult classic, Escape From New York, which they had been developing for some time now.
The powers that be at said companies have chosen to let their option on the property to expire, basically, and now the rights are up for grabs for another studio that may have a vision for bringing Snake Plissken back to life on the Big Screen.
The movie is set in a disastrous futuristic New York City, where the city has been fortified, locked down, and turned into a maximum security prison. When Air Force One forcefully goes down, the president is forced to bail from the plane, landing him right into the heart of the prison, making him a major hostage for the criminals to use to their benefit. This is where Russell’s Mr. Plissken—a former war hero–turned–bank–robber—is offered a deal: rescue the president and return him safely, and he will earn his freedom. But to ensure his commitment to the job, Snake is injected with a tiny–yet–powerful explosive that will be detonated if he fails or tries bail out. [...]
