With his run on NBC’s Community revitalizing his long-running career, actor Chevy Chase is looking to use this new stock to move forward a long talked about reboot of one of his most beloved franchises.
In speaking with Collider, the actor revealed that he has an idea for a possible reboot of the Vacation franchise, that sounds a bit different from the script that is currently being put into production.
“I’ve written an idea that would be basically like a “Swiss Family Griswold.” There’s a cruise, there’s a fire on the ship, we think the whole ship’s on fire and we jump””it’s just a little fire””and we end up on an island where we meet Randy somewhere who’s been left there from an old Survivor series.”
Now, personally, I am not quite sure a new Vacation flick really is called for. The premise sounds fine, but Chase hasn’t really been at the top of his game, at least not until recently. Overall, it’s a franchise I’m not a huge fan of, so if a reboot happens as planned, I’ll be rather indifferent. What about you though?
The actor went on to say that he has no interest in a reboot of his equally loved film, Fletch, so it remains to be seen as to what will happen to this project [read Warner Brothers Planning To Reboot “˜Fletch’ Franchise].
I am a HUGE fan of the “Vacation” movies, with exception to “Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddies Island Adventure” (ugh! WHY?!). Wasn’t so keen on a “reboot” of the franchise. Some things just don’t need rebooting! Like Ghostbusters. Glad they’re doing another “sequel” that continues the story. That said, I LOVE Chevy Chase’s premise for another Vacation sequel! The Griswolds? I can absolutely see them hearing about a fire on board and jumping ship without realizing that it was nothing to worry about. The Griswolds over react and over compensate. It’s what they do! Bumping into Cousin Eddie after being “left behind” by Survivor? Sounds plausible too. Real glad Chevy Chase decided not to reference Christmas Vacation 2 with regards to Cousin Eddie being stranded on an island. Oh that Cousin Eddie…
