Bradley Cooper Leaves ‘The Crow’ Remake … But Mark Wahlberg Or Channing Tatum Might Replace Him

As faithful fans of Alex Proyas’s 1994 cult classic, The Crow, learned about the planned remake with Bradley Cooper attached to star, the response was crystal clear: bitter, heated rage.
Now those very same fans can rejoice, as Cooper has decided to detach himself from the project due to scheduling conflicts…and probably a little reputation control. The actor has a movie called Silver Linings Playbook with David O. Russell, and also a movie called Paradise Lost, which shoots around the same time Relativity Media plans on filming The Crow. Of course, all good things do come to an end, and celebrations could be a bit premature.
It’s also being reported that actors that could step in and replace Cooper include G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and Fighter star Channing Tatum, as well as The Fighter and The Departed star Mark Wahlberg, who was the first actor talked about for the lead role before departing the movie and declaring himself as the new Nathan Drake. Virginia School Board Bans Sherlock Holmes Mystery ‘A Study in Scarlet’

A Study in Scarlet, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle‘s first novel featuring his legendary detective Sherlock Holmes — which was first published in 1887 — has been removed from the sixth-grade reading curriculum by the county school board of Albemarle, VA, after voting on it last Thursday for reasons that have attracted controversy to the famed mystery in the past, according to an article at the Los Angeles Times’ Nation Now blog.
Doyle’s extremely negative portrayal of Mormonism as a religion dominated by those who would commit acts of murder, kidnapping, and enslavement to protect their ideals has long been criticized by followers of the Mormon religion. But according to several sources, including Doyle’s own daughter and Levi Edgar Young, a descendant of Mormon leader Brigham Young, Doyle had admitted in the years following the publication of A Study in Scarlet that at the time he wrote it his attitude toward the Church of Latter-Day Saints had been swayed by how the Church was being portrayed in the press. The author had even apologized [...]

New Zealand Mint Offering Special Series Of Legal Tender ‘Star Wars’ Coins

The New Zealand Mint is set to offer a very special new set of coins featuring the likes of some of your favorite characters from George Lucas‘s classic Star Wars series.
The first series includes eight 1oz 999 silver coins in two separate sets. The first comes in a Darth Vader helmet case (that even makes the iconic villain’s breathing sound when you open it), and features Vader, Emperor Palpatine, a Stormtrooper, and the Death Star. The second comes in a Millennium Falcon case (which makes the “jump to light speed” sound when opened), and features the dynamic duos of Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, R2-D2 and C-3PO, and Han Solo and Chewbacca.
The coins are legal tender, only worth $2 in New Zeland’s denomination, but the silver content is worth much more, meaning each set would run you a hefty $391 US Dollars, or £238 GBP, €270 EUR, $469 NZD, and $371 AUD. [...]

Watch Now: Trailer For New ‘Star Wars’ Porn Parody
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | August 15th, 2011 at 6:25 pm |

One would imagine that the porn world would have milked the universe of Star Wars for all its worth by this point in time. Well, thanks to Vivid Entertainment, that appears to be far from the case.
Because the world is in need of yet another Star Wars skin flick, the company will be releasing Star Wars XXX: A Porn Parody come September of this year.
Watch the trailer here below [note, it's totally SFW, there's no nudity, explicit language, or anything].
Now, the trailer looks awful, but then again, what should one really expect. Honestly, I don’t know who would be all that interested in this flick, but hey, whatever floats one’s boat [...]

Third ‘Bridget Jones’ Movie In The Works; Renee Zellweger To Start Eating Again

It’s time for Renee Zellweger to start chowing down again, as a third Bridget Jones movie is officially in the works.
The actress notoriously plumped up to play the title character in 2001′s Bridget Jones’s Diary, then after losing the weight, fattened herself up even more for the 2004 sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. Now, EW’s Inside Movies has the scoop that Working Title Films, the production company behind the previous movies, are going ahead with a third Bridget Jones film.
The first two films were based on respective best-selling novels by Helen Fielding, who has yet to complete a third Bridget Jones book, though there’s no word whether the new film would even be based on a new book [...]

New Trailer For ‘Footloose’ Remake Hits
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | August 15th, 2011 at 4:07 pm |

With films like Black Snake Moan and Hustle & Flow to his name, director Craig Brewer seems like the perfect filmmaker to take on a remake of Footloose, right?
Well, how odd that may in fact sound, come October 14, 2011, we’ll be getting a chance to see just what Brewer has to offer thanks to his quite talked about remake. However, while we wait, we have a brand new trailer to check out and I must say, the film looks, for lack of a better word, intriguing.

‘Breaking Bad’ To Get One More Season On AMC
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | August 15th, 2011 at 3:29 pm |

Here’s a bit of backstory. Over the past few weeks, the web has been hanging on every bit of information coming out of the AMC camp, as talks between the beloved TV network and Sony have left many wondering just what would happen to the channel’s darling, Breaking Bad.
Budgetary constraints had left the future of the show hanging in the balance, but now, thankfully, things have seemed to clear up. THR is reporting that the show will return for a 16-episode fifth season, which would mark the show’s final run on the network.
The new season will start come early 2012, and has been one of the network’s various hit shows, receiving six Emmys, including three for the show’s lead, Bryan Cranston [...]

Watch Now: John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s ‘Bed Peace’

Following their marriage in 1969 John Lennon and Yoko Ono staged two bed-ins for peace in protest to the Vietnam War, one in Amsterdam and the other in Montreal. The Montreal bed-in was originally supposed to take place in New York City, but Lennon was not permitted to enter the country due to his 1968 conviction in England for possession of cannabis. The New York bed-in was then moved to the Bahamas, but after one night in the stifling heat Lennon and Ono moved the event to Montreal. The bed-in for peace was filmed and edited into the documentary Bed Peace, which Ono has now made available for viewing online for free until August 21 at midnight in response to the recent unrest in London. You can watch the film now embedded here [...]

Check Out Marvel’s November Teaserama

Often Marvel Comics loves to tease us with just cover art or images for upcoming new comics or new story arcs in existing comics. November seems to be a huge month for the House of Ideas, so they’ve been sending a bevy of cover art images to us again with no description, just the image. There are of course new story arcs, particularly in Thor, but there are also some new interesting looking limited books most particularly a new Magneto book and a new Doctor Doom series. There’s also an Uncanny X-Men number #1 and a new Thor limited series to watch for.
In our continued efforts here at Geeks of Doom to share the pleasure and the pain we have for you a gallery of images from Marvel’s major releases. Take pleasure in the great art and potentially exciting new stories and feel the pain of the wait until the books release in November! Sure it’s a short wait, but some of this stuff looks great! Never let it be said that we aren’t generous here at Geeks of Doom! Check out the images below and let us know which comics look most interesting to you! [...]

Comic Review: Total Recall, Issue #3

Total Recall #3
Written by Vince Moore
Pencils and Inks by Cezar Rezak
Dynamite Entertainment
Price: $1.99
Release Date: July 13, 2011
I have not seen the movie Total Recall for quite some time now. But from what I remember it was a fun and campy cci-fi movie from 1990. This being said, there is a new four-part comic book miniseries out that is simply titled Total Recall.
In issue #3, we find Quaid and Melina are trying to deal with the current situations with the colonies on Mars, for both the humans and the Mutants, and what is really going on in the government. We also discover that they are having to deal with tragedy, and on top of that some old enemies from the past are reappearing. It is up to Quaid to figure out what is truly going on and discover what secrets Mars holds [...]

Comic Review: Hellboy: The Fury #2
 |
Posted by Waerloga69 | August 14th, 2011 at 5:27 pm |

Hellboy: The Fury #2
Written by Mike Mignola
Art by Duncan Fegredo
Dark Horse Comics
Cover Price $2.99
Release date: July 13, 2011
Part 2 of a 3-part storyline, Hellboy: The Fury #2 starts immediately into the war with the Queen of Blood. Knights fight on both sides and we even get a glimpse of The Four Horsemen, though truthfully it’s the Three Horsemen and One Pedestrian (a pseudo Terry Pratchett reference for those in the know). Blood abounds, bodies lay scattered, and Hellboy seems to be on the losing end of this battle. Could this be the fabled Ragnarok the Norse always spoke of?
Hellboy stands as the bastion of good in this battle, but is severely outnumbered and most certainly the underdog. Even the mighty Hellboy cannot bring down this mighty dragon queen. The ravens that appear throughout the comic lend themselves to the Norse theme of death and destruction, of course the battle taking place at Vigrid also pretty well seals the deal, too [...]

Comic Review: Dollhouse: Epitaphs #1
 |
Posted by Waerloga69 | August 14th, 2011 at 2:12 pm |

Dollhouse: Epitaphs #1
Writer: Andrew Chambliss, Maurissa Tancharoen, Jed Whedon
Penciler: Cliff Richards
Inker: Andy Owens
Colorist: Michelle Madsen
BOOM! Studios
Cover Price $3.99; Release date: July 6, 2011
Based upon the creation of Joss Whedon, Dollhouse: Epitaphs #1 is directly linked to the television series. The first issue here introduces us to a world gone crazy with “imprinting.” Imprinting is essentially the forcing of another life and set of memories onto an individual to basically rewrite their brain. New skills, new languages, even new likes/dislikes can be learned in short order. Originally this process was used only on the “dolls” at the different houses across the world, but the comic opens up to mass imprinting via basic communication devices.
We get to meet Trevor, a young boy who is altered to be able to accept information and skills in a slightly different method than the reader/viewer is used to seeing. There are several new characters, well, new to me anyway, that seem to be pivotal to the building storyline [...]

Upcoming ‘Star Wars’ Novel ‘Darth Plagueis’ To Focus On Palpatine’s Sith Master
 |
Posted by cGt2099 | August 14th, 2011 at 12:46 pm |

The official Star Wars site has unveiled the first look at the cover artwork for the upcoming novel, Star Wars: Darth Plagueis by James Luceno. See full cover art by clicking image here above.
The long-awaited novel (that was actually canceled at one stage) focuses on the Sith Lord who was the Master of Palpatine, the apprentice who would become the Emperor.
Plagueis was first mentioned in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, when Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) recounts the “tale of Darth Plagueis the Wise” to Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen). The novel is anticipated to expand on Palpatine’s apprenticeship to Plagueis when he was dubbed Darth Sidious [...]

Spoiler Talk: The Help

I can’t say much for Kathryn Stockett’s novel The Help, having never read it. After having watched its big screen adaptation, The Help movie takes an issue as charged as racism, sorry, RACISM all caps, and turns it into a bloated after-school special (it logs in at around 2 hours and 15 minutes) complete with an “inspirational” end-credits song that’ll have you sprinting for the exits. There are times when it plays like a Lifetime movie you might see at 1:30 in the afternoon except without the tampon commercials.
Is it a good movie? That might be stretching it a little.
It is an obvious and safe one. “Safe” in that you know exactly what you’re in for and in that sense you won’t be disappointed. You won’t be particularly enlightened or challenged either, but it is easy-to-digest, filled with clearly delineated heroes and boo-hiss villains that may as well be wearing hoods for all the depth they’re allowed. And in case you need some help, the heavy-handed score tells you exactly what to feel (Inspired? Outraged?) and when you should be feeling it. “Safe” is the movie’s biggest compliment as well as its harshest criticism.
You walk out knowing that racism in all its forms is bad. And we’re all people too and if you can remember the lyrics from “We Are the World” or “Ebony and Ivory,” then you’ve got the movie down [...]
