Frank Darabont Didn’t Leave ‘The Walking Dead,’ He Was Fired

We reported a few weeks ago about Frank Darabont‘s stepping down from his position as showrunner on AMC’s hit horror television series The Walking Dead following his appearance with the cast and crew at the San Diego Comic-Con just a few weeks ago to promote the show’s upcoming second season (you can read that story HERE).
Ever since last December when The Walking Dead‘s completed its first successful season, which premiered last Halloween night with a viewership of 5.3 million and a season finale that drew in 6 million watchers, there have been constant reports of behind-the-scenes battles between the network and the show’s producers, including rumors of mass firing of the writing staff (which were debunked by Robert Kirkman, creator of the comic book the show is based on, HERE ) and demands for budget cuts from AMC executives. Now it seems that the official story behind the decision of Darabont, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker (The Shawshank Redemption, The Mist) who developed the series for television, to suddenly leave the show is starting to show cracks in its facade [...]

Frank Miller’s ‘The Dark Knight’ Auction To Benefit CBLDF
 |
Posted by MK2Fac3 | August 11th, 2011 at 3:36 pm |

The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is currently holding an auction for a signed artist proof copy of Frank Miller‘s 1986 genre-defining The Dark Knight, also known as The Dark Knight Returns.
This edition of The Dark Knight Returns, published by DC Comics and Graphitti Studios, was limited to 4,000 copies. I cannot express how truly rare this is, and as a Batman and Frank Miller fan, this is one version of this book that I’m dying to get my hands on. It has long been out of print, as you can currently only purchase the book in the paperback or Absolute formats. So collectors, get your PayPal accounts ready. You’re going to want to take a shot at this. I mean, just look at the signed Artist Proof Page [...]

The covers is a snapshot from the much-talked-about waterfall scene from The Twilight: Breaking Dawn: Part 1. The picture shows a bikini-clad Bella (Kristen Stewart) and her shirt-less vampire love Edward (Robert Pattinson) in the water with their arm wrapped around each other. You can see a similar, previously released image from the waterfall scene here [...]

Four Gets Fantastic Again With ‘Fantastic Four #600′

Ok, those of us following the death of Johnny Storm and the creation of the new FF knew it was all temporary. Everything pretty much is just temporary in the world of comics. Still, the gap left by the lack of the super hero comedy/drama was a substantial one to hardcore fans.
Well, Fantastic Four fans rejoice because we are a mere few months away from a return, at least in part, to the Fantastic Four we all know and love. When their story is written well, it is great fun and a nice break from the darkness of so many other current comics.
All this week, Marvel has released images teasing the next big FF story, with yesterday’s image showing the return of The Human Torch [read Marvel Teases The Return Of The Human Torch To The Fantastic Four].
Now, the cover art for Fantastic Four #600 has been revealed! Check out the cover by John Romita Jr. here below and get excited for the return of the original four, or get ticked off because you’re enjoying the current FF, which is actually a great story. Sound off in the comments and let us know what you think! [...]

CBS Looks To Remake Classic TV Show ‘Bewitched’; Orders Script From Sony

It’s never a shock to hear someone is rebooting anything these days, so perhaps the fact that in this case it’s not something that still feels new helps to soften the blow.
It’s being reported that CBS is interested in remaking the classic TV sitcom Bewitched, and that they have ordered a script from Sony Pictures Television. The original show ran for eight seasons on ABC, starting in 1964 and ending in 1972.
A movie version of the show starring Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman was made in 2005, but it arrived to very poor critical (25% Rotten, 4.8 out of 10 on IMDb) and box office (budget: $85 million, worldwide gross: $131 million) response.
Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher, who produced the ’05 movie, will be executive producing this potential new series for CBS through their Red Wagon Entertainment. [...]

Listen Now: Sample Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ ‘Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ Score

In recent months David Fincher‘s upcoming remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has been an enigmatic figure in the film world, from the release of a controversial poster that featured star Daniel Craig (playing disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist) with his arm around a topless Rooney Mara (assuming the key role of haunted hacker Lisbeth Salander from Noomi Rapace) to the leaking of a very brief teaser trailer that presented an onslaught of images set to a propulsive cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” recorded by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Late last year it was announced that Reznor would be reteaming with English musician (and producer of four NIN albums, among others) Atticus Ross, who he had successfully collaborated with on the score for Fincher’s critically-acclaimed box office hit The Social Network, to provide the score for the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo remake. Now, Sony Pictures has released a 7-minute sample of Reznor and Ross’ score at the film’s official website; you can listen to it below this article in the embedded YouTube video [...]

‘Transporter’ TV Series Coming To Cinemax

A new 12-part television series based on the Transporter films that starred Jason Statham is currently in production and will debut on the cable movie channel Cinemax next year.
British actor Chris Vance, who has played recurring characters like Whistler on Prison Break and Mason Gilroy on Burn Notice, will take over for Statham in the role of Frank Martin, the titular man whose job it is to transport certain people or objects no matter what danger lies in his path. His three rules are: never change the deal; no names; and never open the package. Naturally, as you may have seen in the movies, those rules are made to be broken, and they always are [...]

Marvel Teases The Return Of The Human Torch To The Fantastic Four
 |
Posted by Henchman21 | August 10th, 2011 at 8:08 pm |

Marvel has been releasing preview images this week to announce the next big story for one of their flagship titles, Fantastic Four, and specifically the return the of currently left-for-dead Human Torch.
The images started on Monday with a simple “4” over a picture of the Earth, possibly signally a return of the original line up. We got a bit of a change up with Tuesday’s image, which showed the current team, complete with Spider-Man, in their Future Foundation uniforms. Wednesday brought us the big one though, with a big beautiful image of the original team, complete with Johnny Storm. Wednesday’s teaser was drawn by Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada. The only words in the announcement were a simple “Coming November 2011.” [...]

Vin Diesel’s Latest ‘Riddick’ Adventure Begins Casting

It’s been more than a year and a half since we first reported that a new movie featuring Riddick, the badass monster-slaying criminal with excellent night vision first played by Vin Diesel in the 2000 sci-fi/horror hit Pitch Black, was going ahead with Diesel once more starring and David Twohy, the writer and director of Pitch Black and its big-budget 2004 sequel The Chronicles of Riddick, back on scripting and directing duties (you can read about that HERE). The movie will be titled simply Riddick and will reportedly be smaller in scale than Chronicles and feature the character doing what he does best: kicking all kinds of ass while saying very little.
The Chronicles of Riddick was intended to be the start of a new trilogy for the character as he ventured into the realm of dark fantasy as opposed to the B-movie creature feature style of Pitch Black, but Universal Pictures put any plans for future sequels on hold when the movie only grossed back $57 million of its reported $110 million budget. Undeterred by this development Twohy and Diesel have persisted in bringing a new Riddick movie to the big screen over the years; in that time Diesel has found success with the Fast and the Furious franchise and Twohy has directed A Perfect Getaway. New ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’ Image Features A Hooded Tom Cruise and Fire

Paramount Pictures has recently released a new promotional image from their upcoming Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol showing a hooded Tom Cruise looking pensive while standing in front of a scene of major destruction. You can check out a larger, full version of the image by clicking the thumbnail at the bottom of this post.
I spotted a portion of Moscow’s Red Square in the background, so I’m assuming this is depicting the Kremlin bombing that puts the film’s plot in motion. In Ghost Protocol, when the Kremlin is destroyed and Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his Impossible Mission Force team are implicated in the bombing, they must go on the run to find the real culprits and clear their name lest they be branded as terrorists [...]

Early Look: ‘Uncanny X-Force #14′ Continues The Dark Angel Saga

Opinions vary a great deal when it comes to the quality of the mutant books in the Marvel Universe these days. Rick Remender, Jerome Opeña, and Dean White are working together to craft some real drama and excitement in an X book that isn’t X-Men; it’s an X-Force series. The story arc title, Dark Angel, is purposefully misleading. When old school X heads hear Dark Angel they think Dark Phoenix, but this story focuses on Archangel.
Uncanny X-Force #14 finds the team trying to save Archangel from completely losing his soul to evil. We have some early pages from the issue for you to check out, but be warned there are potential story spoilers in these pages so check out the art at your own risk [...]

Milla Jovovich To Reunite With Paul W.S. Anderson Once Again For ‘Resident Evil 5′

That’s right, folks, another Resident Evil movie is on the way!
After 2010′s Resident Evil: Afterlife, that’s probably not exactly the most exciting thing to hear, but nevertheless, the fifth movie in the franchise is on the way, and it will be called Resident Evil: Retribution.
Bloody Disgusting has the scoop on the news, which gets even better for you die hard fans. Not only are they making a fifth movie, but star Milla Jovovich will be returning to the role of Alice for husband/director Paul W.S. Anderson, who is also returning. Jovovich has appeared in all of the films so far, while Anderson has only directed the first and last (Afterlife) installments…though he wrote and produced all of them.
The hopes at the moment are to begin filming in Japan come this October, with a September 2012 release in the sights. [...]

A Farewell To The Bats: 4 Batman Comics Ending With DC’s Launch
 |
Posted by MK2Fac3 | August 10th, 2011 at 11:00 am |

Hey everyone, today’s comic book pull-list is going to be a sad one, as we say farewell to four Batman-related series coming to an end this week. Last week, we saw the final issues of many great comics, and in the future, we’ll see even more titles fall to the DC Relaunch. Honestly, it’s like DC Entertainment has become The Anti-Monitor and all our favorite books are infinite earths phasing together to destroy the comics of the DC Universe. Books like Superman and Secret Six have already fallen into the void of the relaunch, but this week will be especially difficult for me as a Batman fan, as we see the deaths of some comics that are near and dear to my heart: Batgirl, Batman and Robin, Detective Comics, and Red Robin. Sure, for the most part we’ll be getting an alternate earth version of these titles, but will they be the same as we’ve known them? No, of course they won’t. So, with your patience, a glass of soda, and a handful of pills to numb the pain of the loss, I would like to give a proper send-off to one of my favorite eras in the history of Gotham City.
After Batman R.I.P. and Final Crisis, there was a storm in Gotham City with the displacement of Bruce Wayne, the original Batman. Many identities were changed with this shocking news including the likes of Robin, Batgirl, and even Batman himself. And this new take on these characters provided a cornucopia of creativity. But enough back-story, right?
You know the drill, I’m here to tell about some awesome comics [...]
