Steve Jobs Steps Down As Apple CEO; Health Concerns Increase

The Movie God   |

Steve Jobs

In one of the more shocking and unexpected announcements in recent memory, Steve Jobs has stepped down as CEO of Apple Inc.—the company he established in 1976 along with Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne—leading many to grow worrisome of his decreasing health.

Jobs has battled pancreatic cancer and other health issues over the years, one leading to a liver transplant in 2009. It’s unclear whether his health issues are in fact directly responsible for his departure as the head of Apple, but he has been on medical leave since January 17, which he said was so that he could concentrate on his health. It is for this reason that those involved with Apple and its many fans and consumers are understandably worried for the well–being of Jobs.

The man who stepped in as the CEO of Apple over the course of Jobs’ various medical leaves, Tim Cook, has once again been named the new man in charge. Jobs, however, isn’t completely stepping away from the company he’s led in making many incredible technological advancements over the years, including the iPhone and iPad, both of which are the industry standard. Jobs will remain involved with the company as a chairman of the board. [...]

Director Peter Jackson Funding Quest To Prove West Memphis Three’s Innocence, Find Real Killer

The Movie God   |

Paradise Lost

Just a few days ago, filmmakers Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky were on hand to film a new ending for their hit HBO documentary series, Paradise Lost. The moment was was when the West Memphis Three—who had been imprisoned for almost two decades for the murders of three young boy scouts—were set free after DNA testing that didn’t exist when they were convicted proved that none of them were involved.

Some rather prestigious celebrity names were very supportive of the trio, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley, and their release, doing everything in their power to see justice done. They include Johnny Depp, Eddie Vedder, Henry Rollins, and Natalie Maines, as well as Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit director Peter Jackson and his partner, Fran Walsh.

As it turns out, Jackson and Walsh have been helping to fund private investigations and forensics experts in hopes of proving the three men’s innocence. And it doesn’t end with their going free because the terms of their release still have many fuming angrily. [...]

Damien Chazelle To Write ‘Last Exorcism’ Sequel

Cinemumra   |

This sounds totally logical, because yes, when I think of a perfect name to write a new film around the world of exorcisms, I think of the same guy who penned a heartwarming indie musical like Guy And Madeline On A Park Bench.

That’s exactly the case, as THR is reporting that Guy And Madeline director Damien Chazelle has been tapped to write the sequel to last year’s rather solid horror film, The Last Exorcism. The new film will begin production this Fall, and will follow the fall out from the first film, which followed a preacher who, with a documentary crew, gets in over their heads when a seemingly fraudulent exorcism becomes far more real than they could have expected [...]

What Exactly Will Be Changed In The Upcoming ‘Star Wars’ Blu-ray?

Cinemumra   |

Star Wars Saga - Blu-ray

When talking about the upcoming Star Wars Blu-ray Editions coming out in September, one has to be a bit concerned. Sure, director George Lucas has all the right in the world to go in and change what he sees fit, but to say that he’s ruffled some fans’ feathers is to put it shockingly light.

So what exactly will be changed with this new release? Well, according to a story from The Digital Bits, things will be changed, but for the better.

First off, the story mentions that the new release will include a new, all digital Yoda, during Episode One. I know that sounds awful, but there were a lot of moments during that first film where the puppet Yoda looked, for lack of a better term, odd, so it should look solid. Toss in some new work on effects some other glitches (like puppeteer’s arms being visible), and an upgrade in the film’s music track, and you have what sounds like a killer upgrade [...]

Universal Drops Another Project, This Time It’s The ‘Ouija’ Movie

The Movie God   |

Ouija Board

Universal is dump–happy lately, dropping numerous projects that they had been developing for multiple years.

First was the Guillermo del Toro–directed H.P. Lovecraft adaptation, At the Mountains of Madness, which was followed by Ron Howard’s The Dark Tower, the insanely big three–film and two–season TV series adaptation of Stephen King’s book series of the same name. The studio also dumped two of its Hasbro board game movie projects not too long ago in Clue, which is being developed by Gore Verbinski, and Monopoly, which was being set up with Ridley Scott attached as a potential director.

Now comes word that Universal has dropped yet another Hasbro board game project, Ouija, based of course on the popular game where kids pretend they can communicate with the dead.

The Ouija movie is being developed by Michael Bay and his production company, Platinum Dunes, with Terminator Salvation director McG attached to helm the flick. [...]

Must See: Live-Action ‘Portal’ Short Film ‘No Escape’ From ‘Totally Rad Show’ Host Dan Trachtenberg

The Movie God   |

Portal: No Escape

A must–see new short film has come along that fans of the hit puzzle–solving game from Valve, Portal, will especially want to check out. It’s titled Portal: No Escape.

The short, directed by none other than Totally Rad Show host and Geeks of Doom friend, Dan Trachtenberg, is a live–action story set in the holding cells of Aperture Science, where a female captive (possibly Chell from the game?) is in an Oldboy sort of situation, being kept locked away for many days with no idea why. That is until she discovers a Handheld Portal Device in her cell, and, after a bit of testing, makes her break for freedom.

Even if you’ve never played the games and have just a basic idea of what Portal is, this is a film that should impress you. Hell, even if you have no clue what the game is, this is a damn fine short everyone should check out once. It very much reminded me of those fantastic live–action Halo shorts that have been made.

Check out Portal: No Escape below! [...]

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season Eight, Vol. 8: Last Gleaming

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Trade Paperback
Season Eight, Volume 8: Last Gleaming
Written by Joss Whedon, Jane Espenson, Scott Allie
Art by Georges Jeanty, Karl Moline
Dark Horse Comics
Release date: June 1, 2011

The end is near! In Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight Vol. 8: Last Gleaming, Buffy, her army of vampire slayers, and the original Scooby gang face the biggest challenge of their lives. With an onslaught of demons coming to destroy the world, Buffy and her team must defeat the demonic threat while also facing the biggest betrayal in Buffy’s history as a vampire slayer.

I’ve been a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer throughout its entire 7-season television run. When creator Joss Whedon decided to continue the series in the comic book medium, I was really excited. I read most of the season 8 run, but felt that it was stretched out a bit too long. When Whedon said that Season 8 was ending with Issue #40, I wanted to see how it was going to end. I’m glad that I caught up with Season 8, because this volume is a nice wrap up that leaves a huge plot to be fleshed out in the upcoming Season 9 series [...]

BioWare Aiming To Combine The Best Of Two Worlds For ‘Dragon Age 3′

The Movie God   |

If there’s one thing that Mass Effect and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game studio BioWare doesn’t get enough credit for, it’s taking what their fans say to heart, and using that feedback to try and improve future installments of their various franchises.

This commendable effort doesn’t always pay off, however, as was the case with Dragon Age 2, the follow–up to their awesome fantasy title, Dragon Age: Origins. While the game had a lot of positives to offer and was still a solid play, some things were just too distracting to ignore, such as a mind–boggling amount of recycled locations and a combat system that “evolved” from strategic and satisfying to an chaotic mess of button–mashing madness (if you were a warrior, anyway).

When it comes to Dragon Age 3, the game isn’t even officially announced yet, but that’s not stopping BioWare from planning ahead and figuring how to make it the best in the series. [...]

Comic Review: Baltimore, Vol. 1: The Plague Ships

Baltimore, Vol. 1: The Plague Ships

Baltimore, Vol. 1: The Plague Ships
Hardcover
Written by Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden
Art by Ben Stenbeck
Dark Horse Comics
Release date: June 8, 2011

In Baltimore, Vol. 1: The Plague Ships, the end of World War I brings about a plague that overruns Europe with the existence of vampires. Lord Henry Baltimore, a former soldier, dedicates his life to making these monsters extinct and searches for the one monster that ruined his life.

I have to admit that I’ve never read a comic by Mike Mignola. I’ve only seen the Hellboy films and I enjoyed both of them. When I got a chance to read Baltimore: The Plague Ships, I was hesitant. The story seemed like it could be good or bad. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the book. I really liked the character of Lord Henry Baltimore. He not only has physical scars from war, but emotional scars from these vampires killing his fellow soldiers and his family [...]

Trailer For Steampunk Noir Drama ‘Thelomeris’ Starring Mark Hamill Released

The Movie God   |

Thelomeris

A new teaser trailer for the very dark upcoming steampunk/noir drama, Thelomeris, has been released online.

The movie, which is directed by 28–year-old Hungarian Balazs Hatvani in his feature debut, stars Mark Hamill (Star Wars, Batman fan–favorite voice of the Joker), James Purefoy (Rome, A Knight’s Tale), Lance Henriksen (Aliens, The Terminator), and DJ Qualls (Road Trip, Hustle & Flow).

Continue reading to read a synopsis for the movie and check out the teaser trailer now!

Here’s the rather lengthy synopsis from Wiki—it’s unknown if this is a 100% accurate outline, but it seems legit.

SYNOPSIS
Dark clouds are crowding in the sky above the endless metropolis. This is Thelomeris, the city of cogwheels and clocks.

The citizens are living their lives in order to operate the clock factory and make it work as effectively as possible and create more energy for making even more clockworks. No one knows who established the city and why, or how long it has existed. Its ancient bordering walls and looming skyscrapers are reaching for the sky silently. Enormous metal cogs are working at the heart of the clock factory, as it casts dark shadows onto the city. [...]
