New ‘Blade Runner’ To Be Completely Different From Original; Won’t Hit Theaters Until 2014

Earlier today it was announced that the great Ridley Scott had decided to once again return to a classic world he built long ago, Blade Runner.
Now some details on how Scott came to return have surfaced, as well as information on how Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove of Alcon Entertainment—who acquired the rights to the property this past March—plan to approach the new movie with Scott and keep things fresh.
Right from the get–go, Kosove and Johnson had their fingers crossed for Scott to be involved somehow, but of course they also had backup plans if the long–shot fell through. After they acquired the rights, they contacted Scott Free Productions in hopes of sitting down with Ridley and sharing their vision for the new movie, to which he agreed.
They talked about a look for the film as well as how it should be not only be very different from the many Blade Runner–inspired films of the past few decades, but also very different from Blade Runner itself, ultimately deciding to make the new movie as separate as possible from the original. New ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’ Still Released

Paramount Pictures has released a new still from their upcoming Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. You can check out the full, larger version of the photo by clicking the thumbnail below this article.
It’s not the most exciting photo in the world but we do get a good look at a rather tense encounter between Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his elusive new team member Brandt (franchise newcomer Jeremy Renner) while Paula Patton and Simon Pegg sort of sit in the background watching. I think Cruise has a gun in his left hand, but the picture is too grainy to tell. Nice flooring in that room though [...]

Watch Now: Anne Hathaway Spits A Verse On ‘Conan’
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | August 18th, 2011 at 9:32 pm |

If you are one of the three people whose interest in rap and all things Anne Hathaway is looking to be intersected, we finally have your story.
The actress appeared on Conan last night in promotion of her film One Day (hitting later this week), and decided to show us how she handles the mic. Saying that she was inspired by rapper Lil’ Wayne, she decided to show her talent for music (something she is genuinely great at), and I must say, it’s amazing to watch, which you can do after the break.

Nerd-Alert: Charisma Carpenter & James Marsters Starring In New ‘Supernatural’ Episode
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | August 18th, 2011 at 8:25 pm |

Nothing like two geek-adored characters, or in this case, the actors portraying them, finding love, and new roles, on an equally adored television show.
Charisma Carpenter and James Marsters, better known as Cordelia and Spike on Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel, will appear on Supernatural in the September 23rd episode, entitled Shut Up, Dr. Phil.
The pair will play a married couple, with the former looking for revenge on her hubby for some random reason. And, Carpenter’s character is a witch. Other than that, not much else is known [...]

Posted by Cinemumra | August 18th, 2011 at 7:42 pm |

The other day, we posted about the trailer for the Star Wars Porn Parody, which I was less than excited about. However, there is something to get stoked for — a new trailer for the impending Star Wars Blu-ray release has arrived, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Watch the trailer here below.
The entire Star Wars saga will be released for the first time on Blu-ray on September 16, 2011 in the United States, with three different versions available for purchase. There’s the entire saga Blu-ray box set, Star Wars: The Complete Saga, that’s currently available for pre-order at Amazon for $89.99, which is a great price for all six movies, plus tons of bonus features. Steve Hillard Overcomes Legal Obstacles, Begins Developing J.R.R. Tolkien Movie ‘Mirkwood’

After settling a legal dispute between himself and the Tolkien estate, author Steve Hillard has reached a deal to develop and secure financing for a feature film adaptation of his novel, Mirkwood, which tells a fictional back story of Lord of The Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien.
Hillard reached the deal with EMO Films, with Joel Eisenberg and Timothy Owens acting as executive producers on the project.
The story mixes a fictional reality and Tolkien’s fantasy, telling of the author trying to keep some secret ancient documents—which tell of a halfling named Ara who comes from a land that inspired Middle Earth—from falling into the hands of evil. Thinking that it’s too dangerous to keep himself, he gives them to a scissor sharpener who’s able to keep them safe for many decades before he disappears and his orphaned granddaughter discovers them.
Here’s a quote from Hillard and description from the book’s site: [...]

Ridley Scott To Direct New ‘Blade Runner’ Film

Back in March, we reported that Alcon Entertainment had obtained the rights to turn Ridley Scott‘s classic 1982 sci-fi thriller Blade Runner, based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick, into a franchise with plans for prequels and sequels inspired by the unique world Scott and his gifted cast and crew created. Little has been heard from Alcon since their acquisition, but now it seems they have found the director who will bring the Blade Runner universe back to the big screen. His name is Ridley Scott.
Yes it seems that Scott, currently deep in production on his Alien series continuation/companion piece Prometheus, has decided to return to the second film that established him as one of the best visionary directors to emerge since the inception of the era of blockbuster filmmaking and has since proved to be one of the most influential genre films ever made [...]

More Images Of Happy Bella & Edward In ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’

Summit Entertainment has just released a bunch of new images from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 1.
So far, the images we have seen from Part 1 have mostly been of the human Bella (Kristen Stewart) and her vampire love Edward (Robert Pattison) happy together, in love, preparing for the wedding, consummating their marriage, playing chess, and skinny dipping on their honeymoon, along with one “uh-oh” moment where a certain someone has their hand over their belly. Oh, and the ever-important shredded feather pillows. There’s also been a few pics of the wedding guests, as well as a brooding Jacob, Bella’s wolf boy toy (Taylor Lautner).
Well, these new pics are more of the same (sans feathers), so check them out here below! There’s also a new synopsis for the film to read over [...]

Watch Now: ‘Underworld: Awakening’ Trailer

The first trailer for Underworld: Awakening, the fourth film in the action-horror franchise that started in 2003, has been released online. You can watch an embedded trailer below this article.
The movie is directed by the team of Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein, Swedish filmmakers who made their directorial debut on the little-seen 2010 thriller Shelter starring Julianne Moore after working primarily in television in their native country for close to a decade. Len Wiseman, the director of the original Underworld and its 2006 sequel Underworld: Evolution (and currently directing the Total Recall remake), is on board as a producer. The screenplay was written by Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski, who also has numerous comic book (Amazing Spider-Man) and film (Ninja Assassin, Thor, Changeling) writing credits to his name [...]

 |
Posted by Cinemumra | August 18th, 2011 at 12:15 pm |

Easily this weekend’s biggest release (unless you are looking forward to something like Fright Night, which for all intents and purposes should be the case, as that film truly rules), Conan The Barbarian makes its return to theaters this Friday, and in anticipation of that release, Lionsgate has gone out and posted a brand new trailer. And for this one, you control what you seen.
The studio has released a new, interactive, red-band trailer for the Jason Momoa-starring film. Check it out here [...]

DC Relaunch: Watch The New 52 Commercial
 |
Posted by MK2Fac3 | August 18th, 2011 at 11:00 am |

A commercial for comic books? Yes, you read that correctly. And no, it’s not 1994, although, based on some of the creators and redesigns of the characters, it may seem like it, but I digress.
DC Comics has released a 30-second ad for The New 52 that features a motion comic style animation of several of DC’s upcoming titles. The ad will air in theaters in upcoming months as part of National CineMedia’s “First Look” advertisements that air prior to theatrical presentations. At this time, there’s no word if the commercial will be brought on to television screens, but with DC’s programming in the upcoming schedule for Cartoon Network, it leads me to believe we’ll see it there, as well.
Check out the commercial here [...]

Bon Jovi: 25th Anniversary Of ‘Slippery When Wet’
 |
Posted by Obi-Dan | August 18th, 2011 at 10:00 am |

Bon Jovi
Slippery When Wet
U.S.: CD | MP3
UK: CD | MP3
Recorded April – August 1986
Released August 18, 1986 (U.S.)
Remember when Bon Jovi was good? Before the ‘90s and ‘00s when they honked up the orangey residue of Bounce, the wretch of Have A Nice Day, and the bile of Crush, Bon Jovi was the rock band to listen to. Their output in the ‘80s was rarely surpassed and many of those tracks still hold up as classic arena rock tunes. Bon Jovi albums from the ‘80s were very good, but Slippery When Wet in particular had King Midas’ shiny fingerprints all over it.
By the end of 1985 Bon Jovi had released two albums. Despite being unremarkable and containing slightly more filler than killer, Bon Jovi and 7800° Fahrenheit sold pretty well. On August 18, 1986, Slippery When Wet was released in the U.S. and Bon Jovi’s popularity exploded [...]

Hold Your Horses: ‘The Lone Ranger’ May Not Be Off The Books Just Yet
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | August 18th, 2011 at 12:37 am |

A bit of a refresher.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Disney had decided to scrap plans surrounding a much talked about Gore Verbinski project, a new take on The Lone Ranger. Budgetary issues had been considered as the reasoning behind the project’s demise. However, according to THR, that may not be the case any longer.
The outlet is reporting that Verbinski as well as the film’s producers, are heading back to the drawing board, and are looking to take the scissors, for lack of a better phrase, to a collection of set pieces within the picture. Originally given a $244 million budget (for what reason, I’ll never know), the studio is eyeing a $220 million or less budget for the film, which will be relatively difficult to come by, unless the right cuts are made [...]

Learn About Cut-Out Animation With Terry Gilliam

I was checking out the website Dangerous Minds earlier this week and I found this interesting clip taken from an episode of Bob Godfrey’s Do-It-Yourself Animation Show, which first aired on British television back in 1974. The video is of a very young Terry Gilliam breaking down the techniques he employed as an animator on Monty Python’s Flying Circus, a style of animation known as “cut-out.” You can check out the full 14-minute clip below this article.
It’s a nice little tutorial and the ever mirthful Gilliam in the years before he became one of cinema’s most unique visionary directors makes an excellent instructor. Host Bob Godfrey sits in on the proceedings. Meanwhile, Gilliam’s demonstration is intercut with clips of his animated segments from Flying Circus [...]

Billy Crystal Talks ‘Monsters, Inc. 2,’ Pixar, Working With John Goodman Again

While at a 20th anniversary screening of his 1991 comedy western, City Slickers, Billy Crystal talked about the upcoming follow-up, Monsters, Inc. 2, which is in fact a prequel.
The movie, which is more officially titled Monsters University, follows future best buddies Mike Wazowski (Crystal) and James Sullivan (John Goodman) when they were back in college working their way towards jobs at Monsters, Incorporated. At the time, the two aren’t friends but more like rivals before eventually forming the relationship we saw in the original.
Crystal’s voice was going during the event, due to a 5 1/2–hour fourth recording session earlier in the day. Of the movie, he shared “I have to tell you something, it is hilarious. The Pixar people are geniuses. It’s 10 years since the first movie. Yeah, it’s crazy. And it’s a prequel. They’re in college. It’s how they met, it’s how Michael and Sully meet, and plan to become scarers at Monsters, Inc. — so this movie ends where the other one starts.” [...]
