New Line Rebooting ‘Mortal Kombat’

Cinemumra   |

Mortal Kombat

As the web series based on this franchise continues to be relatively popular, New Line has apparently decided to cash in on the recent love for the Mortal Kombat.

Deadline is reporting that New Line has decided to set up a new, live-action reboot of the franchise, that will be helmed by Kevin Tancharoen and penned by Oren Uziel. That’s right, the same man behind Glee: The Documentary will be at the helm of a new take on the bloodiest fighting franchise around [...]

Kurt Russell To Replace Kevin Costner In Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’

The Movie God   |

Quentin Tarantino

Back in July it was announced that Kevin Costner would be playing a villain in Quentin Tarantino‘s upcoming film, Django Unchained, who trains slaves to fight to the death for the amusement of slavemaster Calvin Candie, who will be played by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Recently, however, Costner had to step away from the role, and now a replacement has been chosen: Kurt Russell. We now also know that the character will be named Ace, and that he takes great joy in making the lives of the slaves miserable while overseeing the plantation.

The movie also stars Jamie Foxx as Django, a former slave who teams up with a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to go back and free his wife, and Samuel L. Jackson as one of Candie’s right–hand men. [...]

Watch Stephen King Read a Chapter From ‘The Shining’ Sequel ‘Doctor Sleep’

BAADASSSSS!   |

The Shining (1980)

It seems that Stephen King has been hard at work on a sequel to his epic 1977 tome of supernatural terror The Shining (which was made into a classic horror film in 1980 by Stanley Kubrick starring Jack Nicholson in one of his most iconic performances) called Doctor Sleep. Last Friday King appeared at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, to accept the Mason Award at the school’s Fall for the Book event and during his appearance he entertained his audience by reading a chapter from the forthcoming novel. You can watch a video of the reading here [...]

New Trailer For ‘Paranormal Activity 3′ Arrives

Cinemumra   |

Right along with comic book projects, there are very few genres of film that breed better franchises than horror films.

Be it franchises like Saw, or in the case of this new trailer, Paranormal Activity, people can never get enough scares. A new trailer for the upcoming third film in that newly minted series has hit, and with the last film making good on the fun premise planted by the first film, this sucker may in fact be the best one yet [...]

Comic Review: Green River Killer: A True Detective Story

Green River Killer: A True Detective Story

Green River Killer: A True Detective Story
WRITER: Jeff Jensen
ARTIST: Jonathan Case
COVER ARTIST: Jonathan Case
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: September 13, 2011
Cover Price: $24.99

During the 1980s and ’90s, the Seattle area became home to one of the country’s most deadly serial killers, Gary Ridgway, who’s better known as the Green River Killer. Ridgway was charged in the murders of 48 women, but has said he killed many more than that, claiming he was responsible for as many as 71 deaths while some presume it could be closer to 90.

With that much blood on his hands, it’s clear that Ridgway was not easy to catch. He’s now serving 48 life sentences with no chance for parole, plus 480 additional years—10 years for evidence tampering for each of the 48 murders—but only because he decided to come clean with authorities in exchange for a life sentence over the death penalty [...]

Sony May Make You Buy Your Own 3D Glasses

Cinemumra   |

As if 3D wasn’t already expensive, it may be getting even more so.

As studios slowly become more and more in love with not only the format of 3D, but the premium prices audiences must pay in order to see a film in 3D, that greed may now be fueling something even bigger; studios forcing people to pay for their very own glasses [...]

Doctor Who

With the season finale of Doctor Who Series 6 coming up this weekend, I thought it would be a good idea to make some more Classic Doctor Who recommendations for some of the new fans out there who may have only ever seen the new series that has been going since 2005.

As mentioned in our post of our first 10 recommendations, to a generation of Doctor Who fans, there have been only three Doctors since they discovered the adventures of the Time Lord: Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith [...]

It should go without saying that one of the most hotly discussed television series set to come back this fall has to be AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Fan Prints Out All ‘Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion’ In-Game Books, Creates One Incredible Volume

The Movie God   |

Oblivion Gate

This has to be one of the coolest things I’ve seen made from a fictional video game world, and someone needs to make this bad boy into a reality for the rest of us video game uber–nerds.

Reddit user notadoctoreither took every single book you can read on your lengthy journey through The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, printed them all out, and compiled them into one massive tome of Elder Scrolls lore. And the result is exquisite. The book is perfect in every way—in look, in font, and in overall presentation. It’s something that every fan of the games would kill to own, and for that very reason, I’m both depressed at my inability to be so crafty and jealous of this man’s talents!

You can see some images of the book by clicking on over to the other side now! [...]

Strange things are happening in London, England. There is a murderer going around killing prostitutes, the town’s men are being transformed into odd half-man half-sea creatures, and there is an overwhelming sense of doom in the air. With such odd occurrences, it isn’t safe for a young girl to walk about town, is it? Well that depends on who that girl is. In Mike Mignola and Troy Nixey‘s Jenny Finn: Doom Messiah, nothing is as it seems.

Fisherman bring in the day’s catch on a London day like any other. The streets are bustling with people as a young girl named Jenny Finn makes her way around town. Jenny catches the attention of an out-of-towner named Joe who can’t help himself but to seek her out and introduce himself. He is concerned for her safety, as the treacherous streets of London are no place for an innocent young girl. Jenny agrees with him, but insists that she is far from innocent. Her reputation has made its way around town, and soon Joe will know that Jenny is a unique and complex individual [...]

Must See: 24 Paintings Of Celebrities As Russian Generals

The Movie God   |

Celebrity Russian Generals Banner

At one time or another, you’ve probably seen one of the paintings that various people in a position of power have had commissioned of themselves. One particularly notable portrait out there is that of the Russian general, which someone has taken to an extremely entertaining new level.

George Dawe, an English portrait artist who has painted 329 portraits of Russian generals, uses a digital copy of his work as a basis to add his friends, family, and some celebrities into the paintings using Photoshop.

So far he’s done a bunch of celebrities, and most of them look amazing. If we didn’t know who these people were, you wouldn’t think twice about whether most of them were a legit Russian general or not. Some look a little off such as Sean Connery, for example, who looks as though he’s just passed gas in a room full of people, and is pleased that none of them can figure out who it was.

Continue on below now to check out the pictures, and to the source link for even more. [...]

Watch ‘Star Trek’ Star Zachary Quinto Play Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock

Empress Eve   |

Star Trek Zachary Quinto

Way back in November 2008, the CBS comedy Big Bang Theory had an episode called The Lizard-Spock Expansion where the characters played a game of their own creation called Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock, a variation on the classic game.

In a recent video interview to promote his upcoming film Margin Call, Zachary Quinto, who played the young Spock in the new 2009 Star Trek movie, was asked by the interviewer to play the game. Quinto apparently had never heard of it, but played it anyway. Check out the humorous video here below [...]

Ever Wondered What The Heavy Metal Version Of ‘Shadow Of The Colossus’ Would Sound Like?

If you call yourself a “gamer” and have never played Shadow of the Colossus, it’s time to get on that immediately. And as luck would have it, Sony Computer Entertainment has just released a special new remastered high definition collection of the game paired with another beloved title, Ico (which you can pick up here).

If you happen to be into metal AND games, well, then do I have a treat for you. YouTube user ferdk16 has put together a medley video of himself rocking out some of the music of Shadow of the Colossus on an electric guitar…and it’s pretty gosh darn epic.

Zombie World Map

More zombie fun facts!

A new Google map shows where zombie lovers, like me, are doing our keyword searches for the word ‘zombies’ (see above). It seems most of us who doing these searches are English-speaking city-dwellers, not, as I would have thought based on The Serpent and the Rainbow, in Haiti where such things as zombies possibly do exist. Maybe they just call it something else there? Apparently, ‘zombie’ is an Anglicized word. I don’t know. But I do know that anything zombie related is a-okay in my book [...]
