Who Is This Grim Reaper-Looking Figure On The Set Of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’?

This might be absolutely nothing, but a mysterious figure all cloaked in black looking eerily similar to the Grim Reaper was spotted on the set of director Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming mega–sequel, The Dark Knight Rises.
Not being very familiar with the Batman mythos, I can’t say I have even the slightest idea who this might be—it could be a certain character in costume, it could be a secret character in hiding, or it could be some random dude who likes dressing up like the Reaper, for all we know.
But while I haven’t the foggiest who it might be, I know plenty of you will have ideas as to who it might be. So head on below now to check out the spy pics (be warned: they are small, low–resolution, and bunched together) and share your thoughts in the comments! [...]

‘Hellraiser’ Remake Loses Its Creative Team
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | September 12th, 2011 at 8:41 pm |

Despite a series of sequels that can best be described as trash, Hellraiser is still very much a beloved horror franchise, in desperate need of a new take and a new breath of fresh air.
However, that bit of fresh air just got a little less interesting.
Shock Til You Drop recently spoke to the pair of Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer (My Bloody Valentine, Drive Angry), who revealed that they had left their long-discussed remake, which has been in the works for just around a year now [...]

‘The Descent’ Director Neil Marshall To Helm Season 2 Episode Of ‘Game Of Thrones’

A handful of talents have been lined up to direct upcoming episodes of HBO’s Game of Thrones, which is currently in production on its second season.
One of said talents is popular UK director Neil Marshall, who’s made such ultra–violent fare such as The Descent, Doomsday, and the more recent Centurion. And speaking of Centurion, the movie—which starred Michael Fassbender as a part of a small group of Roman soldiers who escape an attack on their legion but have to survive behind enemy lines—could prove to be useful experience for Marshall when it comes to taking on his episode of Game of Thrones.
At the moment, it’s unclear what the episode Marshall will direct is going to be about.
Other directors lined up to captain episodes of the second season include Alan Taylor, David Nutter, Alik Sakharov, and David Petrarca.
Taylor has a ton of TV experience in the past on shows like The West Wing, LOST, and Mad Men, but he’s also dabbled in most of HBO’s hit shows. Taylor has worked directing episodes of The Sopranos, Oz, Six Feet Under, Sex and the City, Carnivàle, Deadwood, Rome, Big Love, In Treatment, Bored to Death, Boardwalk Empire, and two episodes of the first season of Game of Thrones. So it’s finally here! The new Ultimate version of Spider-Man will debut in his own series on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 in Ultimate Spider-Man #1.
We got a sneak peek at the new Spider-Man Miles Morales last month in Ultimate Comics Fallout #4. Now, the character has his first solo story in Ultimate Spider-Man #1, which launches a new ongoing comic book series at Marvel Comics [...]

‘Top Gun’ Coming Back To Theaters In 3D
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | September 12th, 2011 at 4:02 pm |

Nothing says 3D like a bunch of shirtless dudes playing volleyball.
That’s exactly what some people think, as, according to THR, Tony Scott’s Top Gun is coming back to the big screen, and before it gets a sequel, it’s getting 3D.
No set release date has been announced as of yet, except a planned release for some time in 2012. The 2D to 3D conversion is being worked on by Legend 3D, the same crew behind the 3D on Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, so you know there is some sort of talent behind the conversion that will be taking place here [...]

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Helming ‘Highlander’ Remake
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | September 12th, 2011 at 2:15 pm |

How fast does it take for a remake to go from mildly intriguing to quite interesting? A matter of one single news story.
With Justin Lin attached to the long talked about remake of Highlander one could definitely be interested. However, as Lin becomes something of a hot commodity in the film world, a new director is needed, and apparently, that director is none other than Juan Carlos Fresnadillo [...]

Book Review: Ready Player One
 |
Posted by wgillis | September 12th, 2011 at 2:00 pm |

Ready Player One
By Ernest Cline
Hardcover | Kindle
Crown
Release Date: August 16, 2011
In a not so distant future, the world is in shambles. Instead of the dealing with the truth of reality, the people of this bleak world create an escape by using OASIS, a virtual reality world where you can create your perfect reality and do everyday things like going to school or meeting new people. When James Halliday, the creator of OASIS and the richest man to ever have lived, dies, it initiates a contest that Halliday leaves behind in his will. There are three keys that for whoever finds all three will win Halliday’s entire fortune. The contest won’t be easy to win, but protagonist Wade Watts is determined to be the victor.
Ready Player One was one of the most innovative and entertaining books that I’ve read in a very long time. The book is truly a love letter to the era of the 1980s. With references to 80’s video games, movies, and television, the book is like a geek bible to those who grew up in the 80’s or is just a fan of that time period. The author, Ernest Cline (screenwriter of 2009’s Fanboys), has a vast knowledge of the 1980s and it definitely shows. Cline also makes very likeable characters in the novel. Wade and his group of friends were very relatable in the book. You understand their poverty stricken world and their need to constantly escape into OASIS to make a new world for them [...]

Comic Review: Elric: The Balance Lost #3
 |

Elric: The Balance Lost #3
Elric created by Michael Moorcock
Written By Chris Roberson
Art by Francesco Biagini
BOOM! Studios
Release Date: September 7, 2011
Cover Price: $3.99
Again I am pleased to be able to review what I consider one of the best new comics out these days. It amazes me how someone can take something so huge and make it seem even bigger. Chris Roberson manages to continue to convey a sense of vastness to this series by continuing to keep multiple storylines moving at a fast pace. You feel a sense of continuity and yet also feel as if the characters are eons and lightyears apart, which they are…probably. That’s the trouble with time travel, it’s hard to determine not just where you are but also when…
My favorite parts of Elric: The Balance Lost #3 were the locations: New Orleans (a couple of different ones, mind you), London, and a few others that I won’t spoil for you. Watching Elric, Corum, Hawkmoon, and Eric in their various timelines interacting with old and new places and people really makes this series come alive. There are so many things going on that you might find yourself going back and forth staring at the wonderful art that Francesco Biagini was kind enough to create [...]

Spoiler Talk: Contagion

After quietly filing out of the theater after screening Contagion, one question popped into my head: What marketing genius over at Warner Bros. decided to open a movie in which millions of [fictional] people die on THIS weekend of all the other weekends one could have picked? Though one may never get an answer, if you do choose to see Contagion, it’s the scariest non-horror movie you’ll see all year, and is worth the price of admission just to see so many recognizable actors bite it.
Not even having an Academy Award can prevent you from a gruesome death as the cast boasts four Oscar Winners (Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow), not including Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh (Out of Sight, The Informant), along with 3 other nominees (Jude Law, Laurence Fishburne, and Winter’s Bone’s John Hawkes) all serving the ensemble but never overshadowing the main story. If it weren’t for the mega-wattage stars highlighting which characters you should be paying attention to, the movie almost has a documentary feel, with other than the most obvious concessions that yes, you really are just watching a movie [...]

Comic Review: Green Hornet Strikes #9
 |

Green Hornet Strikes #9
Written by Brett Matthews
Art by Ariel Padilla
Dynamite Entertainment
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: September 7, 2011
Dynamite Entertainment has done a very good job with the Green Hornet license since they got it a few years back. Green Hornet Strikes #9 is the second to last issue of the story of the Green Hornet of the future. It is a different take on the characters, but it still maintains all of the classic elements that make the Green Hornet memorable. White guy in a mask? Check. Sidekick who is a master of martial arts? Check. Big car? Check and mate. It’s familiar enough to feel comfortable, yet different enough to seem somewhat new and fresh.
Luke lives in a future Chicago that is ravaged by financial disaster and gang warfare. Into this world, he looks to right wrongs and set his own path as the new Green Hornet. As always, The Green Hornet pretends to be a bad guy in order to bring the really bad guys to justice. By this point in Green Hornet Strikes, Luke has met the Kato of the past, and been partnered up with a new Kato. He is now ready to make his final blow against an evil corporation that has kidnapped his would-be girlfriend [...]

‘Spartacus’ Star Andy Whitfield Dies At Age 39
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | September 12th, 2011 at 12:50 am |

Sad news tonight out of the TV world as Andy Whitfield, the former star of the hit Starz series Spartacus: Blood and Sand, has died after a battle with cancer. The actor died on September 11, 2011, of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in Sydney, Australia, after an 18-month fight. He was 39.
While many may not have known his name going into the show, his turn as the show’s lead was so well received that instead of recasting the character right away, the show halted their production for the second season while he fought his illness. In the meantime, they worked on a prequel while he was in treatment in hopes of his return to the series. Eventually, with Whitfield’s blessing after his cancer returned, the role was recast with Australian actor Liam McIntyre taking over the lead [...]

Academy Award Winner Cliff Robertson Dead At 88
 |
Posted by BAADASSSSS! | September 11th, 2011 at 2:12 pm |

Cliff Robertson, best known to modern audiences for playing Peter Parker’s beloved Uncle Ben in the first three Spider-Man films and a film and television acting career that spanned more than six decades, died on Saturday of natural causes at New York’s Stony Brook University Medical Center one day after celebrating his 88th birthday.
Throughout his long and storied acting career Robertson has played a variety of authority figures and real-life influential personalities. He’s played astronaut Buzz Aldrin, automobile pioneer Henry Ford, and 19th century outlaw Cole Younger. Most notably Robertson played John F. Kennedy in the 1963 film PT 109, which documented the future President’s heroic leadership as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Twenty years later, Robertson portrayed Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner in Star 80, the Bob Fosse-directed film about the shocking murder of Playboy playmate Dorothy Stratten. He played a devoutly religious U.S. President squaring off against Kurt Russell’s iconic badass antihero Snake Plissken in John Carpenter’s Escape from L.A. and in 1976 played the lead role in Brian DePalma’s psychological thriller Obsession [...]

To Watch: Paul McCartney 9/11 Doc ‘The Love We Make’ & ‘The Concert For New York City’
 |
Posted by Empress Eve | September 11th, 2011 at 11:01 am |

In the month following the 9/11 attacks Paul McCartney organized the Concert For New York City, an all-star benefit held at NYC’s Madison Square Garden. Filmmakers Albert Maysles and Bradley Kaplan filmed the former Beatle making preparations, meeting with fellow musicians, and walking through the streets of New York City days after the attack. Nothing was done with the footage until now.
The Love We Make is a 94-minute documentary created from the footage shot 10 years ago and will make its debut tonight at 10:55PM ET/PT on Showtime. See below for subsequent air dates and times.
The Concert For New York City was recorded live on October 20, 2001 and was released to DVD. Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Kid Rock, Bill Joel, and The Who are among the many who performed at the charity concert to benefit the Robin Hood Relief Fund, an organization whose mission is to fight poverty in New York City which set up a special 9/11 fund immediately after the attacks. The 6-hour The Concert For New York City will air in its entirety on VH1 on today, Sunday, September 11, from 4PM to 10PM EST. The Doctor Who TARDISblend 37: Night Terrors
 |
Posted by cGt2099 | September 10th, 2011 at 10:37 pm |

Series Six of Doctor Who continues, and begins with the Doctor receiving a mysterious message via the Psychic Paper asking to be “saved from the monsters.” Along with companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill), the trio trace the message to a multi-story set of flats in a council estate area of England, where they find the young boy who sent the plea of his fears across the cosmos: George (Jamie Oram).
But as the Doctor begins investigating the strange case of George, Amy, and Rory disappear and find themselves in a mysterious wooden Victorian home being chased by creepy “life-size” wooden dolls with malicious intents. The deeper the trio delve into the confusion, the more they discover the horrible truth: George’s monsters are real. But where are they coming from?
During TARDISblend 36, we review the events of Night Terrors, a return to form for writer Mark Gatiss. Within the episode itself, we look especially closely at Smith’s flawless performance as The Doctor, evoking elements of previous Doctors, in a manner that made it his own, looking upon the galaxy with the old eyes of a Time Lord [...]
