‘Wolverine’ Sequel Being Held Back…Again?

Cinemumra   |

Wolverine

First losing a director, and now this.

After falling victim to a bit of a delay following the departure of then director Darren Aronofsky, the much talked about sequel, The Wolverine, may have to wait even longer to see the light of day.

In speaking to HitFix, producer Lauren Shuler Donner revealed that the film will likely be shooting in the late summer of next year, as star Hugh Jackman is more than a tad bit busy. With films like Les Miserables taking up a block of Jackman’s time, the actor doesn’t seem to be able to fit the franchise onto his plate for quite some time [...]

MP3 Album Deal: Pearl Jam’s ‘Ten’

Empress Eve   |

Pearl Jam - Ten

The MP3 album deal of the day over at Amazon today is Pearl Jam‘s 1991 debut album Ten for only $3.99.

Math time: Typically, MP3 songs sell for $.99 each, which means in order for the $3.99 MP3 sale to be worth it for the buyer, there has to be at least four songs on the album worth having. In my opinion, every song on this album is awesome, but here’s a few: There’s the hits “Even Flow,” “Alive,” and “Jeremy”; throw in any other song on the album, and there’s your justification for shelling out a mere 4 bucks for 12 songs.

The album is also available on CD for only $6.99 [...]

Nike Unveils Limited Edition ‘Back To The Future 2′ Sneaker, The MAG

The Movie God   |

Back to the Future II Nike MAG

It’s very much likely that we all at one point or another have dreamed of those crazy fictional things from the “future” we’ve seen created for movies, TV shows, comics, and video games somehow being made into a reality some day. And perhaps the movie that presented the most fun and intriguing futuristic goodies to bring to life, was of course Back to the Future II.

The most iconic futuristic item shown in the movie would have to be the hoverboard—a skateboard without wheels that hovers a foot or so above the ground—which hasn’t been mass–produced…yet…though one artist did build his own working hoverboard a while back.

But after that, it’s all about the self–lacing shoes that Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) wore in the movie, called the Nike MAG. And now those very shoes are a reality…sorta. A reality for those of us with a lot of money sitting around, anyway. [...]

2 New Teaser Posters For ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1′

Empress Eve   |

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1

There’s been lots of photos released for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, the penultimate installment in the Twilight film franchise. We’ve seen love birds Bella and Edward readying for their wedding, enjoying their honeymoon with plenty of steamy shots, and then getting some shocking news. As far as third wheel Jacob, everything we’ve seen of him is one pissed-off brooding wolfboy.

Now, Yahoo! has two new teaser posters for the film that show more of the same — sexy, in love Bella and Edward; brooding Jacob. But, I think Twilight fans will definitely dig it.

Check out the posters here [...]

What If…Trip Advisor Reviewed Movie Hotels?

BAADASSSSS!   |

When planning a vacation it’s always good to make your hotel reservations in advance. Otherwise you might find yourself staying at a complete dump where the elevators spill gallons of blood and your next door neighbor might be the Devil incarnate. Then again you may just get no mint on your pillow and access to a swimming pool that never gets cleaned as often as it should. These things tend to happen, which is good that we have Trip Advisor.

Now the clever folks over at Screen Junkies have come up with a feature that posits what the good people at Trip Advisor would have to say about the hotels and motels that have appeared in some of the finest films ever made, and others that aren’t as good [...]

Comic Book Art Blogs Worth Viewing: The Sindiecate

Henchman21   |

There are a lot of great comic book art blogs out there, beyond the deviantart pages of the world, and if you’re a comic book fan, these are webpages that you should be checking out on a daily basis. All this week (okay, so we had a bit of a break, I had to find some more to talk about), I’m going to highlight a few that I think are worthy of your attention or are just pages for some of my favorite artists.

The Sindiecate is one of the newest art collective blogs. In fact it just started a few weeks ago. The artists involved in this one are David Lafuente, Jorge Munoz, James Harren, Ryan Ottley, and Mike Choi. Their stated goal is to “pay homage to independent comic books and authors.” The first theme they tackled was Todd deZago and Mike Wieringo’s Tellos, with Jonathan Ross/Tommy Lee Edwards being the second theme. This week is focusing on Locke and Key, and there are already a couple of great pieces up [...]

Watch Now: First Clip From ‘The Thing’ Prequel

BAADASSSSS!   |

The Thing (2011) Prequel

MTV has released an exclusive new clip from the upcoming The Thing. You can check it out below this article.

The clip runs less than a minute, but it does feature a few quick (and ineffective) jump scares that culminates with the titular alien beast breaking free from its icy tomb.

The theatrical release of the much-maligned prequel/sequel/remake/whatever of The Thing, John Carpenter’s 1982 classic of otherworldly horror, is little more than a month from release but Universal Pictures hasn’t done much so far to market the new film outside of the release a teaser poster and a trailer. Upon their release both received a lukewarm reception from science fiction and horror fans and an even worse reception from longtime fans of the John Carpenter film, which itself was both an updated remake of the Howard Hawks-produced 1951 sci-fi shocker The Thing from Another World and a more faithful adaptation of “Who Goes There?”, the John W. Campbell short story that inspired both films [...]

TV Review: ‘Breaking Bad: Hermanos’

Goodman   |

Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad
Season Four, Episode 8 – Hermanos
Directed by Johan Renck
Written by Sam Catlin and George Mastras
Starring: Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, Aaron Paul, Dean Norris, Betsy Brandt, RJ Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Giancarlo Esposito, Jonathan Banks, Steven Bauer, James Martinez, and Michael Sheets

Sangre por sangre.

Relationships have always been an important component of Breaking Bad, but a key aspect of these relationships are the blood ties that have formed over the course of the show. For good or for worse, our characters have formed connections due to the circumstances they find themselves caught in.

“Hermanos” is an episode that illustrates the full extent of these ties and the dangers that they can lead to.

Note: From here on out we’ll have to go full-on spoilers for this episode. You’ve been warned. [...]

Book Review: Naamah’s Blessing

The Book Slave   |

Nammah's Blessing

Naamah’s Blessing
Hardcover | Kindle
By Jacqueline Carey
Grand Central Publishing
Release date: June 29, 2011

Naamah’s Blessing is Jacqueline Carey’s grand finale to the Naamah Trilogy, which are the companion books to her Kushiel’s Legacy series. That’s a total of nine books. Having not read any of the first eight books in Carey’s magnum opus, I expected to feel a bit lost, but the author does a good job of connecting all the previous dots through main character and narrator Moirin’s very convenient and near-constant reminiscing of the past.

Once I adjusted to Moirin’s annoying sing-song voice, I tucked in to a tale of great action and adventure in which we follow Moirin and her husband, Bao, as they journey across vast seas to Terre d’Ange, home of Moirin’s father and half of her ancestry. Moirin is following her Destiny, as guided by her diadh-anam, which is the “spark of the soul of the Maguin Dhonn,” or the Great Bear, which is the other half of Moirin’s ancestry inherited from her mother, who lives in Moirin’s place of birth called Alba [...]

Doom Delivery: Living Room Artifact From ‘American Horror Story’

Empress Eve   |

Doom Delivery: FX American Horror Story

On October 5, 2011 at 10pm, a new series will debut on FX called American Horror Story, which revolves around The Harmons, a family of three who move from Boston to Los Angeles as a means to reconcile past anguish. The place they move into is a haunted house occupied by some very unpleasant spirits who terrorize them.

Today, an extremely rare one-of-a-kind artifact was hand-delivered to me that provides a clue as to what’s going on in the house. According to the note attached, this Empress of Doom was one of seven people to receive a full room artifact, which means that an exclusive piece of the story is mine — all the memories, horrors, and unknowns now lie in my hands, waiting to be discovered (whoa, that’s heavy duty!). My room artifact is the Living Room and it’s a Wedding Cake — yes, a totally edible cake!

See a bunch of photos here below of the fully edible wedding cake, which looks beautiful on the outside, but if you look closer, there’s a lot more than meets the eye. If you’re a horror fan, you’re really going to dig what you see.

Go register at youregoingtodieinthere.com, which goes fully interactive on September 9, to gain exclusive access to the horrors and perverse mysteries tied to American Horror Story. Those of you who register through our link will have the chance to receive an actual Living Room-related artifact of your own; you’ll also able to upload artifacts relating to the Living Room to help piece together the mystery of the house [...]

Geek Art: Fro Design Co’s ‘Doctor Who’ Print

Goodman   |

Fro Design Co's Let's Kill Hilter Banner

We’ve spotlighted Fro Design Co‘s art on the site before, but as fan of art prints and Doctor Who, I couldn’t pass the opportunity to talk about this new piece.

In celebration of the show’s return, Fro Design has released a new print focused on the episode “Let’s Kill Hilter.” Dark and TARDIS blue, the image captures the time image in a menacing silhouette of the Nazi villain. Titled “I Think I’ll Kill The Fuhrer,” the print measures 11×17 and is $30.

On sale now, there will only be 50 of these produced, so snag one while they’re hot. We’ve included am image of the full print below (click the thumbnail) — what do you think about the design of it? Will you be picking one up? [...]

Trailer For New Steve Martin Comedy ‘The Big Year’ Arrives

Cinemumra   |

Somewhere, the real, true Steve Martin is hiding away, shaking his head at whatever Martin we’ve been seeing over the past few years and his subsequent performances.

Working on films like the Cheaper By The Dozen franchise as well as The Pink Panther, Martin has seemed to become something of a shell of his former self, as have both Jack Black and Owen Wilson. And now they are all together.

The new trailer for the trio’s upcoming film, The Big Year has hit, and it looks absolutely awful [...]
