 |
Posted by MK2Fac3 | September 21st, 2011 at 12:18 pm |
Each and every week “Hey, How Ya Doin’?” Henchman21 and “Mustard Head” MK2FAC3 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of September 21, 2011. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.
This week boasts a load of titles that fit all sorts of niches for all comic book fans. There are titles hitting stores this week like the Comics of Doom-approved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Bionic Man, as well as the latest installments of Daredevil and Invincible. But as great as all of those books are bound to be, they didn’t make it to The GoD List. So then, what did? Well let me give you some hints, two are DC “New 52″ titles picked by MK2FAC3, one of which is written by Jill Thompson’s husband. Another comic is a comic based on a movie that’s based on other movies that were based on a television series, while one is B.P.R.D.. And the last book is a go-to “Classic McDavid” pick. Continue on to see just why we picked these books [...]

Comic Review: A Game Of Thrones #1
 |
Posted by Waerloga69 | September 21st, 2011 at 11:00 am |

A Game Of Thrones #1
Book One of A Song of Ice and Fire
Based on the novel by George R.R. Martin
Adapted by Daniel Abraham
Art by Tommy Patterson
Letters by Marshall Dillion
Colors by Ivan Nunes
Covers by Alex Ross, Mike S. Miller
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: September 21, 2011
Cover Price: $3.99
George R.R. Martin‘s books are iconic fantasy novels that I hold in the highest regard. A Game Of Thrones #1 was everything I could ever want in an adaptation…and more. Unlike the HBO miniseries of the same name, this comic book delivers a better depth of the book as opposed to trying to make it fit into segmented television programs. Not that I disliked the show, but it was a concise version of one of the greatest fantasy books I’ve ever read.
While it doesn’t quite match up visually to what my mind created while reading the original book, A Game Of Thrones #1 brings a certain depth that many comics are missing today. Through a combination of Tommy Patterson‘s art and Daniel Abraham‘s writing, we get a thorough view of the world of the Seven Kingdoms and beyond. From the quick justice of Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell, to the sad straits of Daenerys Targaryen, Princess of Dragonstone, we are shown both the beauty and the horror of this harsh world [...]

Disney, James Cameron To Bring Pandora To Life With ‘Avatar’ Theme Parks

You may have seen this coming, but it’s being reported that Disney Parks, James Cameron and his Lightstorm Entertainment, and 20th Century Fox have come to an agreement that will see Disney Parks creating theme parks based on Cameron’s Avatar, the biggest movie ever made.
The first thing up will be at Walt Disney World within the Animal Kingdom where it’s assumed a little piece of Pandora will be built “with emphasis on living in harmony with nature.” Construction on the first park is planned for sometime in 2013.
Of the huge deal, Cameron said “Avatar created a world which audiences can discover again and again and now, through this incredible partnership with Disney, we’ll be able to bring Pandora to life like never before. With two new Avatar films currently in development, we’ll have even more locations, characters and stories to explore. I’m chomping at the bit to start work with Disney’s legendary Imagineers to bring our Avatar universe to life. Our goal is to go beyond current boundaries of technical innovation and experiential storytelling, and give park goers the chance to see, hear, and touch the world of Avatar with an unprecedented sense of reality.” [...]

DC Relaunch: New DC Comics (Week Four)
 |
Posted by MK2Fac3 | September 20th, 2011 at 10:00 pm |
As most of you may know by now, DC Comics is relaunching their entire line of comic books this Fall alongside a day and date digital comics initiative. What you might not know, however, is that it all started three weeks ago with the releases of the last issue of DC’s summer event Flashpoint, and the beginning of the new universe with Justice League #1.
This Wednesday is the third big week of releases and I’m picking up a lot of these books, and there are still a lot of books to look forward to in these upcoming weeks, as well as plenty that you and I will probably want to stay away from for varying reasons. So, in the order of kindness and assignments from my editor, I will be breaking down each title with their creators, what they’re about, and what you can expect from each of the new books. And, guess what? I’m not in love with a lot of the decisions that they’ve made, so this should be fun! [...]

Comic Review: The Guild: Clara

The Guild: Clara
One-shot
Written By Felicia Day, Kim Evey
Art by Ron Chan
Letters by Nate Piekos
Cover by Howard Chaykin with Jesus Aburto
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: September 21, 2011
Price: $3.50
One of my favorite web series out on the web is The Guild and when I found out that Dark Horse was coming out with a one-shot comic book about the characters from the show I just knew I had to read it.
The Guild: Clara in particular is about Clara who is the lovable but ignorant member of the group. The story starts with an in-game meeting in the MMORPG that they play, while in the meeting Clara’s husband starts getting angry with her about not cleaning up their bedroom that has all of their moving boxes from 10 months back. He gives her an ultimatum that if she doesn’t clean the room by the end of the weekend, she can’t play the game for a week. Clara, while cleaning the room with her kids, stumbles upon all of her keepsakes and starts telling the stories behind each one. Her husband comes home and is surprised that she has kept all of these keepsakes [...]

Advanced TV Review: New Girl: Series Premiere

New Girl
Series Premiere
Starring Zooey Deschanel, Jake M. Johnson, Max Greenfield, Damon Wayans Jr.
Written by Elizabeth Meriwether
Fox
Air date: Tuesday, September 20, 2011 9/8c
New Girl, the new sitcom from Fox, is the best new show of the TV season. Okay, that is a pretty bold statement. I have not seen any other show from the new Fall lineup, but if the preview that I saw of the pilot episode is an indicator of how the series will play out, then those other new shows will have to have to bring their A game to the table.
Right about now, I am sure you are wondering why this show is so great. Is the premise really that original? Well, no. The premise is pretty much a staple of in the landscape of TV sitcoms. A recently single girl, Jess (Zooey Deschanel), moves into an apartment with a group of guys she has nothing in common with [...]

When tackling an existing property, creators throughout all mediums often find themselves in an unenviable position. They are forced to walk the line of fan expectation to honor the source material, yet their final product must also be fresh and original. This is never an easy feat, as many Hollywood scribes will tell you, but in Dynamite Entertainment’s The Bionic Man, Kevin Smith, Phil Hester, and Jonathan Lau manage to not only meet expectation, but exceed it as well.
The Bionic Man #2 opens strong, with Steve Austin in trouble after a catastrophic accident while testing a new fighter jet for the government. With Steve’s life on the line, we get to know a little more about the villain Hull by meeting the people who gave him his bionic attributes. Hull was meant for more than his murderous ways, but as we learn by issue’s end, he is not open to discussion about his path. He is a focused man with a strong agenda, and nothing will deter his will [...]

The Godfather, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Toy Story, Ghostbusters—these are all considered cinema classics by most. But what one thing could make even these movies a whole lot better? That’s right, Tom Selleck’s Mustache.

You can see a video showing a bunch of movies—including the ones above and many more…like Raiders of the Lost Ark, very fittingly—with the Selleck ‘stache added by clicking on over to the other side now. [...]
