Foo Fighters Respond To Westboro Baptist Church Protests By Playing Show For Picketers
 |
Posted by BAADASSSSS! | September 18th, 2011 at 2:54 pm |

On Friday night, the Foo Fighters played a show at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri, and on hand to show their own special brand of support were members of the infamous Westboro Baptist Church, who brought out their trusty signs and hate-filled chants to express their umbrage at any person, group, or organization that doesn’t share their black-hearted hostility towards homosexuals. In their own puckish manner, the Foos decided to show their appreciation for the Westboro group’s venom by putting on a special concert just for them. They filmed the performance and their preparation and you can watch the video of it all here below [...]

Spoiler Talk: Drive

Emma Stone.
Rose Byrne.
The talent black-hole that is Channing Tatum.
Natalie Portman.
When this year is over and done with, you’ll realize that every single movie released in 2011 headlined one of these actors, though, like you, I have yet to see Channing Tatum, actually “act” in a movie. With the exception of Tatum, seeing these stars over and over isn’t necessarily a bad thing as the projects they’ve appeared in have been good overall (sorry, Your Highness), and after October’s Ides of March, you can add Ryan Gosling to the Honorary Samuel L. Jacksons.
But before you can see Gosling and George Clooney compare abs in Ides, Gosling opens in this week’s 70ish thriller Drive. As befitting a person on the shortlist for Best Actor of His Generation, Gosling’s character in Drive is nothing like his reformed player in Crazy, Stupid Love or his possible cross-dressing murderer in last year’s excellent All Good Things. In fact, Gosling is THE reason to take the Drive, as he’s the best thing about the film, a deliberately paced (read: slow at times) throwback to 70′s noir thrillers when mood and character (read: lingering close ups) meant more than cheap gratification [...]

Movie Review: God Bless Ozzy Osbourne

God Bless Ozzy Osbourne
Directed by Mike Fleiss, Mike Piscitelli
Schweet Entertainment
Released date: September 16, 2011 (UK) Limited
My local multiplex is usually full of spiky-haired teenagers queuing up for the latest horror or comedy (not that there’s anything wrong with that) often hand in clammy hand with their first date. Tonight, however, is different: there are bikers in the car park and men with long hair, leather jackets, and Iron Maiden trainers in the ticket queue. Tonight, God Bless Ozzy Osbourne is in town.
After the success of MTV show The Osbournes and his brilliant autobiography I Am Ozzy, a documentary about the Prince of Darkness was always going to happen. Being a big fan of Ozzy Osbourne I thought I knew exactly what sort of film I was in for. I was wrong [...]

Comic Review: Mercy Thompson: Moon Called #8
 |
Posted by Darkeva | September 17th, 2011 at 8:54 pm |

Mercy Thompson: Moon Called #8
Written by Patricia Briggs, David Lawrence
Art by Tyler Walpole
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: Sept. 8, 2011
Cover Price: $3.99
I haven’t read the previous issues in the first volume of the graphic novel adaptation of the Mercy Thompson series by urban fantasy mainstay Patricia Briggs, but I’m familiar with the actual books that the comics are based on. The artwork is well done, and fans of the books will be pleased with the depictions of the central characters, which largely match their descriptions as set out by Briggs.
The storyline involves a high risk werewolf mission that Mercy is caught in the middle of. She’s as tough as ever, and because of Briggs’ direct involvement with the storyline, it’s true to her books and the plotline therein. And although Briggs’ writing has never suffered from slow pacing in the novels, the same immediacy is conveyed in the graphic novel, but better. Mercy has to rescue a girl named Jesse and her dad, but their captors are intense and very dangerous, which makes their escape difficult [...]

Marvel Announces Collected Stories on the Marvel Comics App

Comixology, the creators of the Marvel Comics app, has been offering graphic novels from independent publishers on its version of the app for some time. If you are interested in catching up on The Walking Dead, for instance, rather than buying all of those individual issues you can buy the graphic novels each as they were released on good old fashioned paper.
Now, finally Marvel has listened to fans and begun releasing “collections.” You can grab a bunch of them right now!
“We’ve heard the fans asking for collections on the app and we’re happy to deliver them today at an unbeatable price,” said Peter Phillips, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Marvel Digital Media Group. “This is only the beginning of some exciting new developments to make the Marvel Comics app an even bigger success.” [...]

1870 Photograph On eBay Proves Nicolas Cage Is Immortal

A photograph was recently discovered being sold on eBay. The photo is of a Tennessee man, and it dates back to around the 1860s or 1870s. But the thing about this particular man, is that he looks an awful lot like a one Mr. Nicolas Cage.
So much so that the seller is even using this in his description, claiming the Cage must be some sort of vampire. Now, some have taken the seller to be completely serious in his statements (especially with a Buy It Now price of $1,000,000 set), but as you can see in the Q&A section at the bottom of the page, he’s actually a pretty funny dude and, even though it sounds like a legit 19th century photograph, is likely just having some fun with it (unless, of course, someone actually pays up that kinda coin, in which case he would be a genius).
You can see the image below and read the seller’s description by heading on below now. [...]

Acclaimed Writer Harlan Ellison Sues The Makers of ‘In Time’ Over Copyright Infringement
 |
Posted by BAADASSSSS! | September 17th, 2011 at 5:33 pm |

The release of the upcoming sci-fi thriller In Time has just come across an obstacle that no one in their right mind ever wants to encounter, and his name is Harlan Ellison.
The prolific, award-winning writer who has been working his literary majesty in print, film, and on television over the course of nearly six decades has filed a lawsuit in California federal alleging that the 20th Century Fox film, which stars Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried and is written and directed by Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, Lord of War), is an uncredited adaptation of his classic 1965 short story “Repent Harlequin! Said The Ticktockman”.
In 1984 Ellison brought legal action against the producers of The Terminator claiming that the James Cameron film pilfered ideas from two of his short stories, “Soldier” and “Demon with a Glass Hand.” It didn’t help the defendants in the case that Cameron had publicly acknowledged this fact in an interview he gave while promoting the movie and it was this interview that brought the matter to Harlan Ellison’s attention in the first place. Movie Review: Drive
 |
Posted by Three-D | September 17th, 2011 at 12:24 pm |

Drive
Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn
Starring: Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks, Ron Pearlman, Bryan Cranston, Oscar Isaac and Kaden Leos
Release Date: September 16, 2011
Immediately are we distanced from the majority of groggy thrillers as director Nicolas Winding Refn, working in astonishing form (he won best director award at this year’s Cannes Festival), achieves insistent thrills from the beginning of his new film Drive. Unfurling from the opening credits onward is an excellence and master-class in control and discipline that cannot be disputed. It is a simple chase scene, a getaway driver discreetly navigating a silver Chevy Impala away from the authorities, set during a gorgeously neon-lit night in the heart of Los Angeles. Refn establishes an atmosphere so distinctive that it calls to mind Mulholland Dr., a great atmospheric film with the same vindictiveness Drive has of Hollywood. Drive’s atmosphere is one that glorifies and harbors masculinity, violence, and existential crises [...]

Watch Now: ‘Pulp Fiction’ Blu-ray Trailer
 |
Posted by BAADASSSSS! | September 16th, 2011 at 8:54 pm |

Pulp Fiction, Quentin Tarantino‘s brilliant, award-winning 1994 underworld epic that was his follow-up to his directorial debut Reservoir Dogs, is finally being released on Blu-ray courtesy of Lionsgate on October 4, 2011. The studio has released a short trailer to promote the release, which you can watch here below.
The film, which Tarantino originally intended to make at Tri-Star Pictures until that studio put the project into turnaround and was ultimately picked up by Miramax, went on to become one of the most financially successful and critically acclaimed independent films released until that time. It helped to transform the fledgling indie studio Miramax into a major industry player and established its co-writer and director as one of the most influential of his generation [...]

Comic Review: Pherone

Pherone
Written by Viktor Kalvachev, Jim Sink and Patrick Baggatta
Art by Viktor Kalvachev
Image Comics
Release date: September 14, 2011
Hardcover: $24.99
Trade Paperback: $14.99
Pherone is a story about a woman named Eve [no relation to our very own Empress] who was trained as a killer to take on various missions and then at the end forget all about it until the word “pherone” is spoken. This is achieved by using a drug that is injected into the operative’s neck. Eve always has the same cover of being an escort on her missions. When the target is getting ready for a night of passion, Eve is getting ready to torture and kill the person for information requested by her handler, a man named Simon. Not only we do we see Eve’s side of the story, but we see the side of the story from the police detectives who are investigating the deaths of Eve’s victims and who come so close to catching her only to have her slip away [...]

‘Source Code’ Coming To The Small Screen?
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | September 16th, 2011 at 3:59 pm |

Ever want to watch the same episode of a TV show over and over again, but as if it were new every single time? Yeah, now you may have your wish.
Joking aside, THR is reporting that CBS has picked up a pitch from Mark Gordon, producer of the Duncan Jones film Source Code, which would see the show be converted into a new running TV series. The show will follow “three former federal agents who are part of a top-secret program. Each week, they’ll use “Source Code” technology to jump into the consciousness of people involved in tragic events.” [...]

Watch Now: Early Test Footage For ‘The Goon’
 |
Posted by MK2Fac3 | September 16th, 2011 at 2:15 pm |

Eric Powell, creator of beloved comic book series The Goon tweeted a bit of interesting news Tuesday night when he linked new test footage from the film adaptation of his comic book series, which you can watch here below.
The Goon is voiced by fan favorite Clancy Brown and his little pal Franky is being voiced by Paul Giamatti in this rough test. It is important to note that this is not in any way final look at how the film will be. It’s simply test footage that gives a look and feel for how the movie will be. It’s made like a commercial and is utterly hilarious, so my excitement for the film has raised indefinitely.
The Goon is created by Eric Powell, creator of the Dark Horse series, and the film will be produced by David Fincher, and released through Blur Studios [...]
