 |
Posted by Cinemumra | October 31st, 2011 at 11:19 pm |

As the negativity surrounding Universal’s attempt at bringing back the story of The Wolf Man into theaters with last year’s clunker still exists, the studio has not been quiet about their next attempt to revive the franchise.
The company has announced that they have started production in Romania on a new project, a yet to be titled Werewolf thriller, with the plan in place to bring the film direct to DVD thanks to their DVD Originals line. It will hit “in time for Halloween 2012.” [...]

Andrew Baldwin Now Penning ‘Logan’s Run’ Remake For WB
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | October 31st, 2011 at 6:08 pm |

Over the past decade or so, a remake of the beloved sci-fi film Logan’s Run has been on the books. Attached with names like Bryan Singer, James McTiegue, and even Carl Erik Rinsch, no one has really been able to get the film too far off the ground.
However, now with the team of Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling aboard, this appears to be changing. THR is reporting that Andrew Baldwin has been tapped to write a new draft of the screenplay for the film, which is currently being set up over at WB [...]

$5 MP3 Album Deal: Styx ‘Greatest Hits’

Ok, so remember when I wrote about how Amazon is currently offering 100 Albums for $5 Each in MP3 format through the end of the month?
I looked through the list a bunch of times to pick a few of great deals to write about, yet somehow I overlooked this Greatest Hits album by Styx. That’s 16 songs for only $5 and if you’re not sure if you dig Styx, trust me, you’ve sung the tunes on this album before: “Too Much Time On My Hands,” “Babe,” and “The Best Of Times.”
Still feigning ignorance? You know you the words “Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto (Domo)” have come out of your mouth before, so don’t even front. Yes, “Mr. Roboto” is on this hits album, too.
Other popular tunes on this greatest hits package are “Blue Collar Man,” “Lady,” “Fooling Yourself,” and of course “Come Sail Away,” the latter tune made popular for this generation thanks to Cartman on South Park [...]

‘The Woman In Black’ Launches Viral Site To Scare Your Pants Off
 |
Posted by MK2Fac3 | October 31st, 2011 at 2:46 pm |

In the spirit of Halloween, the team behind the upcoming The Woman In Black released a viral site today to promote the film and terrify you at the very same time.
The movie is about a young lawyer (Daniel Radcliffe) who travels to small town and in doing this, he finds the ghost of a woman who is terrorizing the villagers. And while that might be the case, the point of the viral site seems to be just to make you freak out. It’s a pretty cool one if you’re not experiencing any bugs with the site (I was). From the site you get a photo of your reaction to a scare that happens, and you can share it from the site with Twitter and Facebook, and you can also have a look at the trailer for the movie [...]

Syfy, Universal To Turn ‘Game Of Thrones’ Author George R.R. Martin’s ‘Wild Cards’ Into Movie

Back in December of 2010 it was announced that Syfy and Universal Pictures would be joining forces to create Syfy Films, with an aim at producing one or two movies a year with relatively small budgets of $5 million to $25 million each.
Now comes word that the new venture has made their first acquisition, the ongoing superhero anthology titled Wild Cards. Created by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, Melinda Snodgrass, and a group of New Mexico authors largely inspired by the role-playing game Superworld, Wild Cards is set in a post-World War II alternate history where a virus released over the skies of New York City wipes out 90% of all people, 9% are turned into mutated creatures, and 1% obtain superpowers.

Halloween 2011 Bat Sponsorship: Meet Mr. Kitty, A Bat Rescued By A Cat!

Every year, Geeks of Doom adopts a bat for Halloween and this year, our sponsored bat is Mr. Kitty, an injured bat that was rescued by a feral cat!
Mr. Kitty arrived at Bat World Sanctuary in Texas with a broken wing. Miss Kitty, a feral cat who lives in the sanctuary’s parking lot, found the injured bat and carried it in her mouth — without harming her rescue — and brought it to the caretakers at Bat World. Rehabilitators were able to repair Mr. Kitty’s wing, but not well enough to allow flight, so he’s now a permanent resident of Bat World Sanctuary’s indoor bat cave.
In honor of Halloween, consider Adopting A Bat from Bat World Sanctuary. There are several available for sponsorship, each with their own personalities and individual stories of triumph over adversity! [...]

As long as there have been creepy and spooky stories, there has been the music accompanying it. In fact, there are elements in the music industry that have since based their entire careers or images upon the scary tales, whether they’ve recorded for soundtracks or not.
This week, the podcast Social Blend has another of our Craniumelody music specials, this time looking at the theme of Halloween music. We made a selection of tunes that fit perfectly in the realm of disturbing, dark, and sinister story-telling [...]

It’s that time of year again, boys and girls! The temperature has dropped, the leaves have turned from green to varying shades of orange and red; children dress in the guise of their favorite characters, and the flickering of candles show the yellow grins of the jack-o-lanterns adorning the porches of your neighborhood. It’s Halloween, folks, and while there’s plenty of people out there that like cute, plastic pumpkins on their doors, we here at Geeks of Doom like our Halloweens a little more horrifying. Comic Review: Bonnie Lass #1
 |
Posted by Waerloga69 | October 30th, 2011 at 4:55 pm |

Bonnie Lass #1
Written and Illustrated by Michael Mayne
Co-Written by Tyler Fluharty
Red 5 Comics
Release Date: September 21, 2011
Cover Price: $2.99
Bonnie Lass #1 was a fun, light romp of a comic. Oozing with random violence and thinly veiled sexual innuendos, this comic seemed almost a caricature of itself. I felt like nothing was as important as making sure the reader had a good time. This is obviously a comic that doesn’t take itself seriously.
Bar fights, hostage situations, torn stockings that defy gravity, this has it all. Bonnie Lass is a vivacious young lady more concerned with her cleavage than her safety. The entire plot revolves around a scroll we see at the beginning but we never fully get details regarding it. After a lot of chasing, some really cool aerial views and one badass jump later, we get to see that there is a bad guy in the night…just waiting to make his move [...]

Criterion Collection Blu-ray Review: ‘Kuroneko’
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | October 30th, 2011 at 4:00 pm |

Kurneko
Blu-ray | DVD
Directed by Kaneto Shindo
Written by Kaneto Shindo
Starring Kichiemon Nakamura, Nobuko Otowa, Kiwako Taichi
The Criterion Collection
Release Date: October 18, 2011
You can feel it in the air. The weather is changing, leaves are falling, and costumes are about to be brought out, as Halloween is just a day away. And while the majority of people will be going to the well for their cinematic slices of terror, Criterion, in their inescapable wisdom, has decided to not only follow up last year’s great release of the cult horror masterpiece Hausu with yet another cult horror offering, but hell, even cats are involved with this sucker.
Kuroneko is the name of this atmospheric gem, and it comes to us from the mind of Japanese auteur Kaneto Shindo. Best known for his fellow Criterion staple, the hauntingly devastating Onibaba, Kurnoeko (Black Cat) is equally as meditative and brooding, and is just as much of a masterful folk tale as that horror classic [...]
