Saturday at New York Comic-Con 2011 saw the first public screening of the first episode of the new Green Lantern: The Animated Series. We will have a full run down of the first episode later, but first we will show you the first scene, which DC/Warner Bros has released to the public.
Watch the opening scene here below.
This is just a taste of the series, but I can tell you that the rest of the episode followed in both art style and in the brutality of the action.
I’m still not a fan of the CG animation style used for this and shows like Transformers Prime. In my opinion when you compare it to something like Young Justice it doesn’t really hold up. I have to assume there are some time and cost saving benefits to using the CG style or they wouldn’t use it. That being said I’m still very interested in the show since I care more about the story it has to tell than the animation style.

I agree about the CG animation. Don’t really like it. Looks to smooth, maybe a little too “clean” or sterile for my tastes. That said, I think this looks to be the best use of it so far. Transformers Prime is a HUGE step up from the Beast Wars but with all the aliens and environment of outer space, this seems pretty well suited for Green Lantern.
Transformers Prime held my interest for a little while and while I understand it was a kids show, the stories were waaay too childish for me (I’m 33 years old). I’m encouraged by the mention of “ample death” though (sounds like less of a kids show) and so I’ll give this a chance too. I don’t expect too much but this one hinges on the writing and direction (they’ve already included Red Lanterns!). We’ll see…
