Universal’s Untitled Werewolf Thriller Heading Straight To DVD In 2012

As the negativity surrounding Universal’s attempt at bringing back the story of The Wolf Man into theaters with last year’s clunker still exists, the studio has not been quiet about their next attempt to revive the franchise.
The company has announced that they have started production in Romania on a new project, a yet to be titled Werewolf thriller, with the plan in place to bring the film direct to DVD thanks to their DVD Originals line. It will hit “in time for Halloween 2012.”
The film stars Stephen Rea, and will be helmed by Joy Ride 2 director Louis Morneau, becoming a film that frankly, no one wants to see, and one that no one will probably see.
I found the latest film to be absolutely dreadful, so hopes aren’t too high for this installment. I think the universe could be mined for something worthwhile, but this just doesn’t really seem to be it. What do you think?
Straight-to-DVD is almost always synonymous with worthless DVD. If only Universal could re-launch their monsters in all the glory they deserve. Seems like a real missed opportunity.
