Warner Brothers Chooses ‘Cloverfield’ Director Matt Reeves For New ‘Twilight Zone’ Movie

The Movie God   |

The Twilight Zone

After a search that involved several interested candidates, Warner Brothers has chosen their director for The Twilight Zone, a fresh take on the classic Rod Serling TV series that aired from 1959 to 1964.

WB has picked Matt Reeves to direct the new movie, which will be presented as one big science fiction action story instead of the multi–story anthology format used for 1983′s Twilight Zone: The Movie.

Reeves is best known for directing the J.J. Abrams–produced monster movie, Cloverfield, and American Let the Right One In remake, Let Me In. He also wrote, directed, and produced episodes of Felicity.

Reeves will direct the movie from a script written by Jason Rothenberg, and it’s hoped that production can begin by next summer. [...]

Marvel’s Next Big Thing Starts With ‘Point One’ Oversized One-Shot

Culturesmash   |

Point One Banner

2011 isn’t even over yet and Marvel is already teasing 2012 Summer events. They’re laying the ground work early with a new epic one shot called Point One from a bevy of creators to get us all pumped to drop cash on new series and story arcs next year.

The talent behind this epic one-shot is definitely strong with writing by Jeph Loeb, Brian Michael Bendis, Matt Fraction, Ed Brubaker, Fred Van Lente, Chris Yost, and David Lapham and art by Ed McGuiness, Bryan Hitch, Terry Dodson, Salvador Larroca, Ryan Stegma, Javier Pulido, and Roberto De La Torre. Look for Point One on store shelves on November 21, 2011 [...]

Watch Now: Trailer For ‘Devoured’, The Latest Film From The Director Of ‘Lemmy’

BAADASSSSS!   |

Devoured, directed by Greg Oliver

Following up his co-directing gig on last year’s acclaimed rock documentary Lemmy, Greg Oliver is in post-production on his first solo feature film, a psychological horror film entitled Devoured. The first trailer for Devoured has been released, which you can check out here below.

The film stars Marta Milans as a single mother struggling to make ends meet by getting a job washing dishes in a restaurant where nothing is what it seems (or so the trailer would have us believe). She starts having unnerving visions, intense encounters, and it all builds to a “brilliant, shocking ending” (in the words of the trailer). It’s a pretty basic horror trailer made solely to get early word out about the movie and it will likely come in handy when it’s time to sell the movie to the general public. A solid teaser trailer all in all [...]

Check Out These ‘Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E.’ Preview Pages

MK2Fac3   |

Frankenstein

One of my favorite comics out of the DC Relaunch was easily Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E.. The comic is about Frankenstein. Yes, that Frankenstein. Well, technically Frankenstein’s monster, but let’s not split hairs. He is an undead monster who works for a special ops organization and is set to be the leader of a special group. And that special group is made up of other Universal Studios-style monsters like a werewolf, a vampire, and a creature that looks like she could be from a black lagoon [...]

The artist for Duel will be Rafa Garres. The whole series is co-written and coordinated by IDW Chief Creative Officer and Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall. The first two issues will feature incentive covers by Tony Harris. The series will launch in February [...]

Fox Releases ‘The Three Stooges’ Teaser Poster & Banner

The Movie God   |

The Three Stooges

It’s not much, but if you were wondering what Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly‘s The Three Stooges are going to look like, we now have a basic idea in the form of a teaser banner (above), as well as a new teaser poster that doesn’t show much of anything.

It’s only the top of their heads, but the new Stooges look pretty much what you probably envisioned in your head they would look like when hearing that we had gone from Jim Carrey, Sean Penn, and Benicio Del Toro playing the famed trio to Will Sasso (MADtv, Happy Gilmore), Sean Hayes (Will & Grace, The Bucket List), and Chris Diamantopoulos (24, The Kennedys) [...]

MK2Fac3   |

Key of Z #1

Most everyone in the geek world knows that New York Comic-Con is going on this weekend and it just so happens that one of my favorite comic book companies, Evil Ink!, is here to sell merch and sling comics!

Luckily, I got a chance to catch up with Claudio Sanchez (of Coheed and Cambria) and Chondra Echert on their upcoming book Key of Z on the convention floor at Booth 1345 about the new comic, what they’re looking forward to seeing at the convention, and what they’ve got coming up. You can watch my video interview here below. Now, the audio quality on the video is a little off, so before you take to the comments section to tell me that I should have been looking at the camera or using a mic, I totally agree with you. My bad, it will never happen again.

So, to save you the ear strain, I wanted to tell you about some of the high points from the interview, and they are listed here below [...]

Yes, it is indeed that time of the year and the GoDs and I are here covering this east coast comic geek mecca all weekend. ‘X-Men: First Class’ Writers Chosen To Pen ‘Top Gun’ Sequel

The Movie God   |

Top Gun

Paramount Pictures along with Skydance Productions is moving forward with their planned sequel to the 1986 action hit, Top Gun, which starred Tom Cruise as a cocky and talented young fighter pilot.

It’s being reported that Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz have been chosen to write the screenplay for the planned sequel, and that the duo are currently in negotiations on a deal.

Miller and Stentz have recently made splashes in the comic book movie relams, penning the scripts for both Thor and X–Men: First Class for Marvel. They’ve also worked together as writers and producers on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Fringe.

It’s not yet known exactly where the sequel will go in terms of story and as a continuation of the original movie, nor is it known whether Tony Scott, who directed the first, or Cruise will be coming back in some capacity or not. [...]

Hulu Has A Change Of Heart, Decides Not To Sell Company

The Movie God   |

Hulu

Since June, Hulu has been listening to offers from various interested parties who might want to purchase the popular TV and movie–watching service, but it appears that they’ve had a change of heart.

In a joint announcement from Hulu and its owners, News Corporation, Providence Equity Partners, and The Walt Disney Company have announced that won’t be selling Hulu, and that they will now continue to focus on improving and evolving the service.

The short statement made read “Since Hulu holds a unique and compelling strategic value to each of its owners, we have terminated the sale process and look forward to working together to continue mapping out its path to even greater success. Our focus now rests solely on ensuring that our efforts as owners contribute in a meaningful way to the exciting future that lies ahead for Hulu.”

A reason for why the group of owners decided to put a stop on the sale process is not yet known, but it’s assumed that the offers they were receiving weren’t exactly as high as they were hoping they would be. [...]

Watch Now: Cameron McCulloch’s Short Zombie Film ‘Home’

BAADASSSSS!   |

The Australian short zombie film Home

Cameron McCulloch‘s short film Home is a striking tale of the everyday travails of an unnamed woman (Jamie McDowell) struggling to survive in the wake of a zombie outbreak and the consequences that her actions have on her soul.

You can watch the full short film here.

The entire story is told in stark imagery, without a single line of dialogue. It’s a more effective adaptation of Richard Matheson’s classic novel I Am Legend than the 2007 blockbuster with Will Smith, even though it’s not really that at all. The story and tone of Home reminded me of the Matheson story for some reason [...]

Alexander Payne Hoping To Get Gene Hackman For ‘Nebraska’

Cinemumra   |

While he may not have the pull of a bigger named director, Alexander Payne sure as hell will try to pull his weight to get one of the greatest actors around to jump back into the game.

Vulture is reporting that Payne is set to shoot his upcoming film, Nebraska, in black and white, but must cut his budget to $10 million, and find a big name to grab the lead role. Who does he have his eye on? Amongst a list including the likes of Jack Nicholson and Robert Duvall is the one and only Gene Hackman [...]
