Must See: Awesome ‘True Blood’ Bloody Fountain In Romania

The Movie God   |

Romanian True Blood Fountain

Season 4 of HBO’s hit vampire drama True Blood has come and gone here in the States, but over in Romania it’s just getting started. And in celebration of the new season, a pretty insane marketing campaign has been put together.

Collider’s Steve Weintraub happened to be in Romania when he came across the campaign, which is quite literally a massive bloody fountain you’d expect to see outside the Overlook Hotel, spurting streams of red high into the air.

Click on over to the other side to check out a video of the fountain, and head to the source link below for more images.

Can you imagine if someone tried this somewhere in America? An army of conservative soccer moms would collectively go into angry chicken mode and we’d all be doomed! [...]

When it comes to incomprehensible titles, we may have just found a new champion.

A Peek At Next-Gen Gaming: The Faster, Cheaper, Ultra-Realistic Future Of Video Games

The Movie God   |

Next–Gen Engine Demo Banner

Take a look at the two images above. Go ahead, study them a bit…I’ll wait here. All set? OK then—what do you think? If someone were to ask you which of these two images was an actual photograph and which of the two was a demonstration of what the future of video games might look like, would you be able to answer correctly?

Some of you may unleash your eagle–eye skills and be able to tell, but for the vast majority of us (myself included), it’s very, very difficult to discern the difference between the two.

Video game company Square Enix, publisher of the excellent Deus Ex: Human Revolution, was in Japan recently for a press conference where they showed off a tech demo for their Luminous Engine, which they hope will become the future of gaming as we know it.

Dan Trachtenberg To Direct ‘Crime Of The Century’ From ‘Fast Five’ Writer Chris Morgan Pitch

The Movie God   |

Dan Trachtenberg

Universal Pictures has preemptively acquired the rights to Crime of the Century from a pitch by Chris Morgan through a two–year deal he has with the studio.

The movie is set to be directed by Dan Trachtenberg, co–host of the Totally Rad Show and commercial director who recently made huge waves with his short film Portal: No Escape, which was based on the hit puzzle game from Valve. The project is Trachtenberg’s feature debut.

Morgan is best known for his action–packed resume, which includes writing the scripts for The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Wanted, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, and the upcoming 47 Ronin. He’ll also be penning the script for the untitled Fast and the Furious 6 for director Justin Lin, who also recently inked a two–year deal with Universal. The deal is the first sale for Morgan.

Writing the screenplay is Dan Kunka, who came up with the idea for the project with Trachtenberg. [...]

Confirmed: ‘Monster’ Director Patty Jenkins Set To Deliver ‘Thor 2′

The Movie God   |

Thor

Back in September we started hearing names that could step in and replace Thor director Kenneth Branagh on the planned sequel after he had decided that he would not be returning. One of the names that was said to be at the top of the list was Patty Jenkins.

Now comes confirmation by Marvel Studios that Jenkins will indeed be taking on Thor 2, which was originally set for a July 26, 2013 release but has since been moved into the November 15, 2013 spot, interestingly enough.

Jenkins is a very curious choice for the job, one might say. Her previous credits include Monster, which nabbed Charlize Theron an Oscar for Best Actress, as well as episodes of Arrested Development, Entourage, and the pilot episode of The Killing. Unless she’s a closet comic book fanatic, however, fans may not know what to think of Marvel’s choice. But then again, everyone thought hiring Branagh was a strange move as well. [...]

Michael Winterbottom Helming Beatles Film ‘Longest Cocktail Party’

Cinemumra   |

The Beatles

Michael Winterbottom is to music what Michael Bay is to supermodels. No one is better at inserting it into a motion picture. Steeping each of his films in a great sense of style both visually as well as sonically (see 9 Songs), it should come as no shock that the filmmaker is looking to direct a picture revolving around one of music’s most iconic entities: The Beatles.

The Playlist is reporting that Winterbottom (who last helmed The Trip, a film that will be the subject of a DVD review coming to GoD early next week), is set to helm The Longest Cocktail Party, a film based off of a Richard DiLello book of the same name [...]

Comic Review: Warlord of Mars: Fall of Barsoom #3

PS Hayes   |

Warlord of Mars Barsoom 3

Warlord of Mars: Fall of Barsoom #3
Written by Robert Place Napton
Art by Roberto Castro
Colors by Alex Guimsaraes
Letters by Simon Bowland
Covers by Joe Jusko, Francesco Francavilla
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: October 12, 2011
Cover Price: $3.99

I’m usually not a big fan of spin-off books, but I was pleasantly surprised by this comic. Set 100,000 years before John Carter arrives on Mars, Warlord of Mars: Fall of Barsoom #3 is actually an interesting story about the history of the planet Mars and its inhabitants.

A lot of spin-off or tie-ins tell the stories set 1 day or 5 minutes before the beginning of the movie, or you’re stuck with between the scenes stuff, where you already know the outcome of the story and immediately think “Wait, why am I reading this again?” But writer Robert Place Napton does a nice job of telling a tale that is very independent from the story of John Carter that we’ve all read before. This is legitimately a fun, exciting story on its own, just set in the John Carter “universe.” [...]

Interview: Mountain Lead Guitar and Vocalist Leslie West

Obi-Dan   |

Leslie West

Legendary Mountain frontman Leslie West has been in the news a lot over the last few months. Due to some serious health issues he had his lower right leg removed to save his life. Thankfully back in relatively good shape now, West has been busy promoting his new album, the truly excellent Unusual Suspects featuring guest musicians Zakk Wylde, Slash, Billy Gibbons, Steve Lukather, and Joe Bonamassa.

I spoke to the man whose enormous stature (both physically and musically) in the world of rock has never been in question just as he is about to embark on his latest tour, albeit with some adjustments.

Geeks of Doom: You’ve had some well publicized health issues recently. How are you?

Leslie West: I’m pretty good. I’m doing quite better. Got fitted for my prosthetic the other day and…it’s not as easy as one would think, [you don’t] just snap it on and, ‘Hey, yeah, there we go!’ But I’ll get it eventually. I’ll get it quickly I hope! [laughs] [...]

Universal Feels Pressure, Decides Not To Offer Brett Ratner’s ‘Tower Heist’ On Demand

The Movie God   |

Tower Heist

Remember just a week or so ago when it was announced that Universal Pictures would be offering the upcoming Brett Ratner comedy, Tower Heist, to people in their homes via video on demand three weeks after its theatrical release for an astounding $59.99? And remember how angry movie theater owners were at the very thought of the plan, threatening to boycott the movie? Well, those angry theater owners appear to have won this mini–battle.

It’s being reported that Universal has canceled their plans to offer Tower Heist early. The movie was only to be available in the Atlanta and Portland, Oregon regions to test how well it worked, but theater owners were set to refuse playing the movie in their establishments altogether. It’s unclear exactly what caused the change of heart specifically, but this is likely the reason Universal decided not to continue on and risk losing a sizable chunk of first through third–week profits.
