Today marks the 162nd anniversary of Edgar Allan Poe’s mysterious death at the age of 40. In the spirit of celebrating his legacy, we bring you The Poe Twisted Anthology, a collection of graphic stories inspired by select works of the Dark Master. These are not clever retellings; the words ‘rehash’ and ‘regurgitation’ do not apply here. The thirteen authors and artists accepted the challenge to create fifteen unique graphic pieces using Poe’s work as their inspiration. From the introduction by Enrica Jang: “We pay tribute, we aspire, but in the end, we paint the pictures for you.” [...]

Billy Ray Writing ‘The Thin Man’ For Johnny Depp

Cinemumra   |

Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow

And this project just got a whole lot more interesting.

A remake of the brilliant Thin Man, itself based off of a Dashiell Hammett novel, isn’t a piece that is being clamored about too much. It’s a beloved classic, and at this point, it doesn’t seem like it will be done the justice it deserves. That is, until this bit of news [...]

What’s next after this?

Just when you thought the remake/reboot craze couldn’t get crazier, Deadline is reporting that Sony has hired writers Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia to write a new take on the Zorro franchise, which would be based off of a novel penned by Isabel Allende, from 2005 [...]

Johnny Depp To Jump Into The Wonderful World Of Dr. Seuss

The Movie God   |

Johnny Depp & Dr. Seuss

It’s being reported that Johnny Depp and his Infinitum Nihil production company have teamed with Illumination Entertainment to develop a live–action movie about beloved children’s author, Dr. Seuss, for Universal Pictures. The project is being developed with the potential for Depp to star in the lead role.

Seuss, who’s real name is Theodor Geisel, wrote numerous timeless classics, many of which were eventually turned into feature films. His more notable works include How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, Horton Hears a Who!, and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.

There’s a lot of ways a movie like this could go, of course, and producers aren’t sure exactly what route they’ll take yet. Depp has played Seussical (not the musical; rather fantastical, fitting to the creations of Seuss himself) roles such as the Mad Hatter and Willy Wonka, so they could tell the story of Dr. Seuss’s life along with animated glimpses of his infinitely wonderful and strange creations. Trailer For The Return Of MTV’s ‘Beavis and Butt-Head’ Released

The Movie God   |

Not too long ago a near 5–minute special preview of the return of Beavis and Butt-Head was released online, and many fans of the idiotically hilarious ’90s animated hit series giggled with teenage nostalgia…myself very much included.

While it’s not quite as funny as said preview, MTV has released a new trailer for the show, and it’s still well worth taking a peek at. You’ll see some of the antics the eternally immature Beavis and Butt–Head get into, as well as a peek at some other returning characters.

Be sure to head on below now to check out the new trailer for Beavis and Butt–Head, which returns to MTV on October 27, 2011. [...]

Conan O’Brien Returns To ‘Late Night’ Set To Retrieve Triumph From Jimmy Fallon

The Movie God   |

Conan O'Brien & Triumph Reunion

One of the more unfortunate casualties of Conan O’Brien‘s messy departure from NBC as host of The Tonight Show, was that the network maintained legal ownership of all of the late–night talk show host’s many characters and bits he created over the near two–decade run he had there.

The most cherished of which would have to be Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, who gained his own cult following as a ultra–sarcastic field reporter who visited events, such as a new Star Wars movie hitting theaters, for example, where his hilariously poked fun at the many fanboys (and girls) who were camping out in line (a must–see if you have not).

During a recent airing of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Conan made a surprise appearance—on the very same set that his own Late Night was filmed for 16 years before he made the move to The Tonight Show and, ultimately, to Conan on TBS—to take back what was once his. But could there be a way for Conan to really get Triumph back from NBC somehow, or was this a simple bit of nostalgia?

Continue on below to see the video for yourselves and decide! [...]

Watch Now: ‘Dexter’ Season 6 Premiere

BAADASSSSS!   |

Fans of the hit series Dexter without access to Showtime can now rejoice: the pay cable network has made the season six premiere episode available for free viewing online. You can watch the video below this article.

This is a nice gesture on the part of Showtime, but it’s also highly likely a ploy to attract potential new subscribers, hence the reason why this free version of the Dexter season premiere is edited for content. So it will be just like watching the show on a channel like, say, Bravo. Or A&E. Oh joy [...]

Arkham City Soundtrack

Hey, you guys remember how I gave a great review of the Batman: Arkham City Soundtrack because it’s awesome? Well, if you’re still a little apprehensive about spending that hard earned ten-ish bucks, then you’re in luck because you can go over to AOL and listen to it absolutely free!

That’s right, AOL is giving you a free streaming option to give the album a listen if my words weren’t enough to get you to purchase it. There are a lot of great songs on this album from bands like Panic! At The Disco, The Damned Things, Coheed and Cambria, and Daughtry, and each of the songs are either influenced or about Batman! How great is that? [...]

Robert Downey Jr. To Bring ‘Perry Mason’ To The Big Screen

SDCC 2010: Marvel Avengers Panel: Robert Downey Jr

No one has cashed in their return to glory quite like Robert Downey Jr. Be it starring in films like Sherlock Holmes or Iron Man, or getting offered insanely intriguing projects like Gravity or even spearheading a few here and there like his still-gestating Steve McQueen project, Downey Jr. has become one of the hottest actors around.

But he sure loves his remakes and franchises. Variety is reporting that he and WB will be developing a big screen take on the iconic TV series Perry Mason as a possible starring vehicle for the actor [...]

Must Watch: ‘Moneyball’ Sequel ‘Too Much Moneyball’ Trailer

The Movie God   |

Too Much Moneyball

OK, so there’s not really a sequel for Moneyball already on the way, unfortunately, but the folks over at Jest (the new College Humor sister site) decided that there was a perfect sequel story to tell, and produced this faux trailer to prove its worth.

Moneyball stars Brad Pitt as Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane, who, along with the help of Peter Brand (Jonah Hill), come up with a radical new way to put a major league baseball team together with significantly limited financial means. So what better premise for a sequel than a team that has TOO much money to spend? And who better to base it on than the team we all love to hate—that’s right…the New York Yankees!

You can check out the parody trailer for this completely non–existent movie, fittingly titled Too Much Moneyball, by clicking on over to the other side now. [...]
