‘The Avengers’ Director & ‘Firefly’ Creator Joss Whedon Makes Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ In Secret

Just when you thought Mr. Joss Whedon–creator of Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, among other things–could not surprise you any more than he already has, the man makes Shakespeare…and he does it in complete secrecy WHILE filming the biggest superhero movie of all time, Marvel’s The Avengers.
After a website promoting a Whedon adaptation of William Shakespeare‘s play, Much Ado About Nothing, went live, it was confirmed to The Wrap that it was no hoax and that the micro-budgeted indie project had just wrapped principle photography. [...]

 |
Posted by Cinemumra | October 27th, 2011 at 12:00 pm |

Ever since the project was first conceived, it was always thought that the team of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson would take on directing duties for the series of films to be based on The Adventures Of Tintin. And now, with the first film just a ways off, it’s Jackson’s turn.
In an interview with THR, Jackson revealed that following production on his current film, The Hobbit, he will begin work on the next film in the Tintin franchise. The second Tintin installment will be entitled Prisoners Of the Sun, and while it may not even be greenlit yet, it appears to be moving right along [...]

Author R.A. Salvatore Reveals Why Drizzt Carries Scimitars
 |
Posted by Waerloga69 | October 27th, 2011 at 11:01 am |

R.A. Salvatore‘s first published novel, The Crystal Shard, exploded onto the book scene in 1988 and cemented his name as one of today’s greatest fantasy authors. His first trilogy, set in the Dungeons & Dragons‘s Forgotten Realms, was such a huge hit that he was signed to write both prequels and sequels in the years following. Now, after more than twenty years and over twenty New York Times bestsellers, he continues to excite and amaze his readers with his heroic tales in his latest book, Neverwinter: Neverwinter Saga, Book II.
His most popular character, Drizzt Do’Urden, has been featured in more than two dozen books with no real ending in sight. A Drow Elf ranger is probably not the first choice most people would have picked to write about, but Salvatore did just that. I recently had the chance to sit down the author to talk about various topics, but one subject we touched upon was Drizzt and his weapon of choice, the scimitar. See here below an excerpt for our interview where Salvatore reveals why Drizzt carries scimitars [...]

Star Wars: Crimson Empire III-Empire Lost #1
Written by Mike Richardson and Randy Stradley
Pencils by Paul Gulacy
Colors by Michael Bartolo
Cover Art by Dave Dorman
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: October 26, 2011
Cover Price: $3.50
Being a Star Wars geek, the 1990s were a great time to be an Expanded Universe enthusiast. George Lucas had opened the gates to authors, writers, artists, and video game designers to assist in developing the canvas of the Star Wars saga beyond the span of the movies. There are several highlights from those years, and one of the titles that stand out from that time was the Crimson Empire comic book series.
Dark Horse Comics had taken a solid hold on the comic book front as far as Star Wars was concerned, and many fans believed that FINALLY the galaxy far, far away was at long last being treated with the serious outlook it deserved. While the novels paved forth a road for Luke Skywalker to resurrect the line of the Jedi Order, the comics complemented this, and in some cases, expanded past it [...]

I have a feeling that Cobra #6 is the calm before the storm. The really, really BIG storm that’s going to be rolling through the GI Joe titles in November and December as the Hunt for Cobra Commander storyline concludes.
I have some mixed feeling about this issue. While the there are some further developments in the overall arc, for some reason I get the feeling that there should have been more. Writer Mike Costa gives us another solid issue, but with the reveal of the new Cobra Commander just two issues away, I was expecting a lot more [...]

H&M Launches ‘Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ Inspired Clothing Line

Just in time for Halloween and tailor-made for us non-girly girls, Swedish retailer H&M is launching a line of clothing and accessories inspired by the newly remade The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie, which is based on Stieg Larsson’s bestselling book of the same name.
Costume designer Trish Summerville (from the remake, not the original made waaaay back in 2009) designed the line for H&M in the hopes that every girl will want to look like gothy anti-social Asperger-burdened computer hacker and main character, Lisbeth Salander (portrayed in the upcoming film by Rooney Mara) [...]

Letters by Bill Tortolini

Release Date: October 26, 2011
Cover Price: $3.99
OK, now THIS is the bad ass Kung Fu ninja book that you’ve been looking for. Disguised as a superhero comic, Kato #14 is actually like watching a really good martial arts movie. There’s action from start to finish, with some surprises thrown in for good measure.
Writer Ande Parks delivers a fantastic story. Also with the action comes surprises in the few pages that are not solid action, where he actually does some nice character development between the original Kato, and his daughter, Mulan [...]

Digital Comic Review: Age of Bronze: Seen #1
 |
Posted by Bad Monkey | October 26th, 2011 at 12:15 pm |

Age of Bronze: Seen #1 (for iPad)
By Eric Shanower
Colors by John Dallaire
Reader’s Guide by Thomas Beasley
Published by Throwaway Horse and Hungry Tiger Press
Release Date: October 14, 2011
Price: $.99
Eric Shanower’s epic Eisner-Award-winning series Age of Bronze has been praised by comic book fans, historians, and educators alike. Currently at 31 issues (and counting), the title began in 1989 with an ambitious goal: merge literary sources and historical/archaeological data on the Trojan War into a singular cohesive story. The fact that it’s an entertaining read on top of that is just icing on the cake.
Now the team at Throwaway Horse has brought Age of Bronze into the digital age by combining the original stories with a comprehensive reader’s guide by Yale classics scholar Thomas Beasley. The result is an even more in-depth look at the Trojan War that includes maps, character guides, internet resources, and even a reader’s commentary forum… all without leaving the app (helpful hint: the forum can be reached by tapping “Reader’s Guide” when it’s active). [...]
