Despite being one of the more maligned remakes currently in production, you have to admit, the cast for the long-discussed remake of the beloved anime flick Akira maybe just got a whole lot interesting.

Twitch is reporting that the pair of Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham-Carter have been offered the roles of Colonel and Lady Miyako, respectively. The film will be helmed by Jaume Collet-Sera, and is currently being set up with Garret Hedlund in the film’s lead role (or at least, as of the writing of this, he’s in discussion for the role of Kaneda), so it does appear as though this is definitely on its way [...]

Deadline is reporting that WB has tapped Drew Pearce to pen a third film in the franchise, which is interesting, if only for the fact that Pearce is also the man behind the pen for the third film in the Iron Man franchise [...]

Apparently, there is a silver lining on the horizon for the long-discussed adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower.

The Playlist is reporting that despite being shut down by Universal, the team of producer Brian Grazer, writer Akiva Goldsman, and director Ron Howard is not only still attempting to get the project off the ground, but has gotten the film’s budget cut down $45 million, going as far to say that “it’s going to get made.” [...]

During last weekend’s New York Comic-Con, Geeks of Doom got a chance to chat with Ashley Eckstein, star of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series and founder of Her-universe, a line of merchandise geared towards female sci-fan fans.

Eckstein took some time out of her busy schedule to give us some one-on-one screen time to discuss the creation of Her-Universe and the future of the company, which includes a deal with Disney Parks, as well as how she fared on a certain old school game show. She also dished on what’s happening in Season 4 of Clone Wars and what’s going on with her character.

Let me start off by saying Monocyte is dark, I mean really dark. With the exception of some spilled blood here and there the entire comic is done monochromatically. Characters’ bodies are either detailed masses of flesh and bone painstakingly drafted in black and grays, or they are huge black masses with unidentifiable torsos. Of course there will be H.R. Giger comparisons to artist Menton3‘s style and scope, and in this lies my issue with Monocyte. Each panel is so beautifully drawn and inked that they deserve to be single-standing illustrations, the words within each panel seemed like an afterthought. This was enhanced more by the fact that with art so meticulously rendered, the story seemed rushed and unevenly paced at many points in this issue [...]

Christos Gage and Rebekah Isaacs took some time out during last weekend’s New York Comic-Con to talk to us about their latest comic book series, Angel and Faith.

Gage was happy to dish about what’s next for the slayer and the vampire with a soul, the early praise for the Dark Horse comic book series, and what is next for the talented duo.

It was not surprising that Paranormal Activity was turned into a franchise after the original, which was made on a budget of $15,000, made over $100 million at the box office. What is surprising is that Paranormal Activity 3, despite rehashing the same formula as the first two films, still manages to scare people half to death.

The evil is back. The incorporeal evil has been caught on tape again, and this time it has a name… Toby. That’s right, the malevolent entity haunting the family in the Paranormal Activity series is named Toby. At least, that is, according to Kristi (Jessica Tyler Brown), who gives the name to what her sister Katie (Chloe Csengery) thinks is her imaginary friend. Katie and Kristie both learn the hard way that Toby is not imaginary in the first two films, but Paranormal Activity 3 is set in 1988, when the girls are still children living with their mother Julie (Lauren Bittner) and stepdad Dennis (Christopher Nicholas Smith) [...]
