Posted by Cinemumra | October 20th, 2011 at 8:16 pm |

Start the geek freak outs now.
Zombie Research is reporting (with a hat tip to Bleeding Cool for hunting this down) that George A. Romero is currently working on adapting the Steven Schlozman novel, The Zombie Autopsies, with the author at his side.
The film will follow the story of scientist Dr. Stanley Blum, a man infected by, but also attempting to cure, a zombie virus It’s told through his journal entries, and is apparently quite elaborate in its descriptions of things [...]

Ever since I began reading Blue Estate it’s felt like with each new issue I’ve been holding my breath waiting for a lull in action or dialogue, or anything to give me a moment’s rest. Since issue #1, Blue Estate has been delivering a virtually unending line of pulp action and Blue Estate #6: Point of No Return is no exception. From the start, creator Viktor Kalvachev and his five-man team have made it their personal mission to drag us as readers down into the literal hell that is Los Angeles on the brink of a gang war. In Blue Estate #6 we are introduced and reacquainted with some of L.A’s worst, but instead of pulling us out of the cesspool, Blue Estate grabs us by the throat and yanks us in deeper [...]

Comic Review: Warlord of Mars: Dejah Thoris #7
 |
Posted by PS Hayes | October 20th, 2011 at 7:00 pm |

Warlord of Mars Dejah Thoris #7
Written by Arvid Nelson
Art by Carlos Rafael
Colors by Carlos Lopez
Letters by Marshall Dillion
Covers by Joe Jusko, Ale Garza, Paul Renaud
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: October 5, 2011
Cover Price: $3.99
This is why we’re all lucky that comics are still being published. This story would NOT work in film, television, books, or any other kind of medium. But, it totally works in comic book form.
Arvid Nelson knows how to write a fun, exciting, suspenseful story specifically for the comic book art form. It’s action from first page to last, always moving, and cliffhangers abound in this issue. Hey, what’s not to love about scantily clad woman bouncing (and I do mean bouncing) around fighting, in chains and causing all sorts of mayhem? This is a genuinely fun, well-crafted action story with a GREAT last page shocker [...]

DVD Review: The Trip
 |

The Trip
DVD
Directed by Michael Winterbottom
Starring Steve Coogan, Rob Brydon
IFC/MPI Home Video
Release Date: October 11, 2011
Nothing screams cinematic awesomeness like two people’s vacation.
Joking aside, that’s exactly what the team of Steve Coogan, Rob Brydon, and director Michael Winterbottom have done with their latest collaboration, a docudrama entitled The Trip. Telling the story of Coogan, who, asked by The Observer to tour the UK’s best eateries, teams up with Brydon after his then-girlfriend passes on the short little vacation, the film finds our lead at his wits end when his long-time friend, Brydon, takes the vacant slot on the trip.
However slight the narrative may indeed sounds, the film that we ultimately get is both charmingly entertaining and intellectually delectable, more so than it frankly has any right to be [...]

River Phoenix’s Final Film ‘Dark Blood’ To Get Release Almost Two Decades Later

It’s been eighteen years since River Phoenix died of a drug overdose outside of The Viper Room in 1993 at the absurdly young age of 23.
Before he died he was filming a movie titled Dark Blood, which tells the story of a man (Phoenix) living as a hermit on a nuclear test site way out in the desert waiting for the world to end. One day a couple (played by Jonathan Pryce and Judy Davis) break down while driving through the desert on their second honeymoon. The hermit rescues them but then turns around and holds them captive when he falls for the man’s wife [...]

‘Akira’ Remake Gets Official Greenlight; ‘Tron’ Star Garrett Hedlund Top Choice To Star

Back in May fans of the hit Japanese manga and animated feature film Akira were filled with joy at the news that the rumored Keanu Reeves would not be starring in the planned American remake and that director Albert Hughes had left the project, leading many to think the movie would never happen.
That joy didn’t last long, however. It was announced just a couple of months later that Warner Brothers had chipped down the budget of the remake from over $100 million down to $90 million, and that they had hired Unknown and Orphan director Jaume Collet-Serra to replace Hughes. Now comes word that the studio has officially given the greenlight to a live–action American Akira remake, so this bad boy is happening for real.
Take a moment to grieve.
No actors have been cast for the two lead roles yet, but WB does have their eye on someone. According to sources, Tron: Legacy and Friday Night Lights star Garrett Hedlund is a “front–runner” to land one of the lead roles. Nothing is official yet, but if you’re looking for potential names, there’s one for you to discuss. [...]

‘Back To The Future’ DeLorean To Make Comeback As Electric Car

As far as vehicles go, the DeLorean was something of a flop when it was first unveiled back in the ’80s. But thanks to Back to the Future, it became one of the most iconic cars ever made, and die–hard fans everywhere would give limbs to have one all to themselves.
Now it’s being reported that the DeLorean Motor Company has announced new plans for the fanboy dream car. Starting in 2013 (hopefully), the company will begin offering made–to–order electric–powered DeLoreans for all of you green geeks. You’d have to be a wealthy green geek, however, as each electrified time traveler will set you back close to $90,000.
The car will have around 260 horsepower and reach around 125 miles per hour, with each battery charge getting you about 70 miles down the road. And speaking of batteries, in a twist of wonderful irony (or witty business decisions), DeLorean has theirs made by a company called Flux Power. [...]

NYCC 2011: Cosplay Photo Parade: Saturday Edition, Vol. 1

The 2011 New York Comic Con on Saturday was nothing less than a madhouse. The Con this year felt like it was a lot bigger than last year but even with the extra space, it still felt like the building was about to burst. While walking down the aisles, one couldn’t help but feel smothered by the mass of people coming from all sides. I guess it is true what they say: Mo’ space, Mo’ problems.
Thankfully, Geeks of Doom was still on hand to show you the cool costumes were present. Saturday was so packed, the photos taken there had to be split up into two parts, so enjoy this photo parade, Volume 1! Second half to come soon.
As always, if you see yourself in any of these photos, be sure to shout out and let us know! [...]

Got 7 Minutes? Watch Harrison Ford Play ‘Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception’ For Japanese Commercial

Harrison Ford wouldn’t be the first person you would think to be into video games, and that’s probably because he isn’t. Even so, the legendary star recently filmed a Japanese commercial for the highly anticipated video game sequel from Naughty Dog, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.
While the commercial is nothing to go wild over, another video was released of Ford playing the game for almost seven minutes, which is far more entertaining to watch.
You can see Indiana Jones playing seven minutes of the game that’s drawn so many comparisons to his legendary character, as well as the commercial itself and a short behind–the–scenes video. There’s plenty of shots of the game here as well, so potential spoilers ahead if you worry about such things. [...]
