Watch Now: Teaser Trailer for ‘Tim & Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie’
 |
Posted by BAADASSSSS! | November 30th, 2011 at 11:15 pm |

It was almost two years ago when I first read in an interview with Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, the creators of Adult Swim’s oddball sketch comedy series Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, that the duo were working on their first theatrical feature. Titled Tim & Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, the movie would star Heidecker and Wareheim in addition to some big name comedy stars and famed character actors, two groups the show itself never had a shortage of in the cast. But since then little has been heard about the status of the movie or when it would be released. More importantly, once finished would this movie ever be seen?
Today we are happy to report that not only has Billion Dollar Movie been completed but it has a distributor, a release date set in stone, and an actual, honest-to-Spagett trailer! [...]

Kind Of First Look At Daniel Day-Lewis As ‘Lincoln’ Is More Than Kind Of Awesome
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | November 30th, 2011 at 10:25 pm |

From shoemaker to one of the most iconic presidents in U.S. history, actor Daniel Day-Lewis has been one of the greatest actors of his generation for, well, a generation. And now, he’s taking on Abraham Lincoln, and we have our first, albeit out of context, look at what we may have in store.
The Film Stage has the first photo of what appears to be Day Lewis in beard and all, just relaxing, taking in what looks to be quite a delicious meal [...]

Holiday Geek Gift Guide 2011: DVDs & Blu-rays

I was about to start out this gift guide by writing some pretentious crap about the unifying power of cinema and television and how the greatest art form of the past century would make the perfect Christmas gift for that demanding loved one of yours, but then I put down the cough syrup and slapped some sense into myself.
But it is true that when you’re not sure what to buy someone as a present you can always surprise them with a fine movie or a boxed set of their favorite television series. Then as you sit back and watch their face light up with the joy of angels singing harmoniously in Heaven when they open the gift you can take a sip of spiked egg nog and let out a hearty Errol Flynn laugh because you are victorious and you didn’t even try.
That’s why we here at Geeks of Doom want to aid you in your soul-destroying quest to find that ideal DVD or Blu-ray if you’ve got the extra dough (and you drink silver chalices full of orphan tears), for that special someone in your life [...]

Francesco Francavilla’s Variant Cover For ‘Archie Meets KISS’ Reminds Me What Love Is
 |
Posted by MK2Fac3 | November 30th, 2011 at 7:06 pm |

I’m really kind of ashamed to admit that I don’t read Archie Comics regularly. There’s no reason for me not to, I mean, I don’t dislike them. In fact, I like them a lot more than a great deal of comics I read on a regular basis. Sure, sometimes Archie and the gang don’t provide a whole lot of excitement for a lot of readers, but then they go and do something like bringing KISS to Riverdale. And what could be better than that? Only one thing, getting Francesco Francavilla on variant cover duties.
You can check out the cover below. [...]

Daniel Radcliffe To Play Allen Ginsberg In ‘Kill Your Darlings’
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | November 30th, 2011 at 1:16 pm |

One of the more interesting projects being batted around Hollywood has been the long talked about film, Kill Your Darlings. Originally announced in 2009, the film has been relatively stagnant when it comes to production moving forward, but that’s about to change.
Twitch is reporting that Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe will star in the film, which is set to be helmed by John Krokidas. Kill Your Darlings will follow the story of Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and Lucien Carr, and their relationship with one another. The film was originally set to star Jesse Eisenberg, Ben Whishaw, and Chris Evans, but will now see Radcliffe taking on the role originally set for Eisenberg, that of Ginsberg himself [...]

Google Honors Mark Twain With Doodle

In honor of Mark Twain’s 176th birthday today, Google has created for their home page a doodle depicting the famous fence painting scene from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. While it may seem like an odd milestone to celebrate, the fact is, nothing else of note has ever happened on this date in American history.
So, let’s whoop it up for Twain, for his life’s work has entertained multiple generations with his unique vernacular and poignant social commentary that some well-intentioned lunatics would like to censor at this late stage [...]

Fans of grunge should be delighted to learn that during its 20th anniversary year the excellent Temple Of The Dog album is available on MP3 as part of Amazon’s monthly $5 MP3 Album Deals.
Following the death of Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood, Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell wanted to put together a tribute to his late friend. The roots of grunge behemoth Pearl Jam are here with Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard finally joining up with future Pearl Jam bandmates Eddie Veddar, Mike McCready and Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron (who is now Pearl Jam’s drummer). The result was this: the eponymous album Temple Of The Dog [...]

For a huge selection of high quality MP3 albums at low prices there’s no better place to shop online than at Amazon. Every month the website hosts a wide variety of downloadable album for only $5 at their MP3 Store. Each month, they have 100 titles available on sale, each of which will only set you back a single digital Abe Lincoln. Among the sweet deals Amazon is offering in November you’ll find titles from artists such as Lauren Hill, Bob Dylan, the Black Keys, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, John Coltrane, Temple of the Dog, The Band, and more.
I decided to turn the spotlight on a title from a band I once held in the highest regard, and that’s Aerosmith‘s 1994 greatest hits compilation Big Ones [...]

Movie Review: Hugo
 |
Posted by Three-D | November 29th, 2011 at 4:15 pm |

Hugo
Directed by Martin Scorsese
Starring Asa Butterfield, Chloe Grace Moretz, Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Christopher Lee, Ray Winstone, Helen McCrory, Emily Mortimer, Jude Law
Release Date: November 23, 2011
Martin Scorsese encounters no intense turmoil as he thwarts his inner urge to make another violent picture and involves himself with a luminously adventurous 3D film that has a little orphan boy at its center, as well as an immense homage to cinema. In one of the most inventive films of the year, Scorsese’s Hugo is an indelible delight that is meant to enchant audiences of every age. The way he uses this immersive 3D technology is enchantingly beautiful, bringing a distant world and all of its once unexplored recesses into our immediate presence [...]

DVD Review: Black Country Communion – Live Over Europe
 |
Posted by Obi-Dan | November 29th, 2011 at 3:07 pm |

Black Country Communion – Live Over Europe
U.S.: DVD | Blu-ray
U.K.: DVD | Blu-ray
Mascot Records
Release date: October 24, 2011
One of the best supergroups of the last few years has released a live DVD to prove to those who didn’t catch them over the summer that they are just as impressive live as they are on their albums. Shot over three nights at shows in Hamburg, Munich and Berlin, Germany last summer, Black Country Communion Live Over Europe is a document of a rock band at a key period in their career.
The summer festival circuit is where bands go to make their name and spread the word. To be fair to the guys, Black Country Communion’s name was already pretty well known. After these kind of performances, their word was gospel [...]

Comic Review: Pilot Season: Theory of Everything #1
 |
Posted by PS Hayes | November 29th, 2011 at 1:10 pm |

Pilot Season: Theory of Everything #1
Created by Dan Casey, Nick Nantell
Written by Dan Casey
Art by Thomas Nachlik
Colors by John Rauch
Letters by Troy Peteri
Cover by Eric Jones
Top Cow Productions
Release Date: November 30th, 2011
Cover Price: $3.99
I was supremely disappointed in Theory of Everything #1. It was a book that had so much potential, but like some of Top Cow’s other Pilot Season comics, quickly became very predictable and almost boring.
Writer Dan Casey tries to tell his story in an almost backwards fashion using flashbacks and referencing things that the reader doesn’t know about to try and convey some sort of mystery in the book, but it’s never really executed effectively. There’s groundwork here for a very interesting comic series, but this issue was too full of the standard run of the mill storytelling “tricks.” [...]

Get Ready To Go Back To Smallville With ‘Smallville: The Complete Series’ Box Set
 |
Posted by MK2Fac3 | November 29th, 2011 at 11:01 am |

Ready to revisit Smallville High yet? And now that Smallville: The Complete Series is out today, I’m wanting to go back more than ever before.
The 62-disc box set boasts 192 hours of material, which includes all 218 episodes and over 5 hours of brand new content. And that new content is pretty freaking sweet. What they’re offering here is a never-before-seen Superboy pilot shot in 1961, a look back at the series with over 100 minutes of material, a decade of comic con featurette, and so much more, including DC’s Secret Origin documentary [...]
