I’ve never reviewed a webcomic before but found it pretty similar to reading digital comics on my tablet. I read Heist#1: Homeland Insecurity twice because I knew that I had missed something on my first go. The comic itself was entertaining and held my attention all the way through. Brandon McGinley has taken the standard hero/villain story and twisted it a bit. I was stunned to see that the art was pencil and ink, it was so cleanly done that it seemed digitally rendered at times. Andres Ponce did a beautiful job and has some serious talent. My only complaint would be that maybe a bit more detailing in the foreground is needed. There were times it seemed a little flat, but really, that’s the only complaint I could come up with here.

We have Geist, who is a criminal who can phase through virtually anything. Additionally, he can’t be seen during this time so he never gets caught…which obviously leads to boredom on his part. Apparently he is so good that he is willing to try anything for the thrill. So when he gets propositioned to pull off an impossible job…off he goes to steal the most treasured item (the Halo) from the superhero team Pax Americana , who keep this in a vault on their satellite. Of course, there is betrayal and danger during this adventure but what sticks out most in my mind is his witty commentary. It’s almost like watching an action flick, you get the banter and a few one liners.

I liked this comic and hope to see more in the future. I do want to mention that there are some curse words in here. It doesn’t bother me but if you are considering letting small children read this, maybe you should read it first before finalizing your decision. And I enjoyed the plot concentrating on the bad guy, it happens so seldom. But the real upside to this webcomic has got to be the price. It’s totally free. Of course, you can send a Paypal donation, it really would be the right thing to do if you enjoy it, you know?

  1. I haven’t come across this webcomic before, but I’m intrigued that it’s done in pencil and ink, which is so rare to find these days.

    Thanks for the rec!

    Smiles!
