With the recent revamping of the James Bond franchise has come the absence of one key character: Q.
The gadget maven, best known thanks to a brilliant turn by John Cleese in 2002’s Die Another Day, the character’s last appearance (as well as by Desmond Llewelyn, who played the character for the 36 years prior), will indeed be returning with the upcoming film Skyfall, but this time, in a much younger body.
THR is reporting that Ben Whishaw will play the character, joining a cast including Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes and Albert Finney. The film will be directed by Sam Mendes.
This couldn’t be better. As a huge fan of Whishaw, this is music to my ears. He’s a fantastic actor, and one that will give a great shot of youth to an otherwise older cast. More than capable of holding his own, this is one role that the young thespian should be able to tear up.
