Check Out The Teaser Trailer For ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | November 10th, 2011 at 11:08 pm |

Yeah, well, that wasn’t what we expected.
The first trailer for the upcoming film, Snow White And The Huntsman has been released, and it shockingly looks kind of amazing. Watch the teaser trailer here below.
The film is obviously based on the tale of Snow White, but is very much a revisionist take on the narrative, finding our heroine being hunted down by a woodsman, who ultimately teams up with the titular beauty to take down her evil stepmother [...]

Challengers Of The Unknown Return With ‘DC Universe Presents #6′
 |
Posted by MK2Fac3 | November 10th, 2011 at 7:00 pm |

DC Comics announced today that there would be a brand new creative team and story arc for the DC Universe Presents title starting with issue #6.
The interesting thing about DC Universe Presents, which is currently focusing on the Paul Jenkins-scripted and Bernard Chang-drawn Deadman story, is that with each arc comes new characters throughout the DC Universe. So, starting with DC Universe Presents #6, Dan DiDio (DC Co-publisher and Co-writer of O.M.A.C. with Keith Giffen) and Jerry Ordway will be taking over the series for a Challengers of the Unknown revival, while Ryan Sook is still on covers. The story details are obviously limited at this point, but from what we do know about previous incarnations of The Challengers is that it will be a team of explorers in the midst of a bizarre and rich science fiction world [...]

3D Blu-ray Review: Chicken Little
 |
Posted by Vactor | November 10th, 2011 at 3:45 pm |

Chicken Little
3D Blu-ray/DVD Combo
Directed by Mark Dindal
Starring Zach Braff, Garry Marshall, Joan Cusack, Steve Zahn, Amy Sedaris, Don Knotts, Patrick Stewart
Walt Disney Pictures Home Entertainment
Release Date: November 8, 2011
Is the Chicken Little 3D Blu-ray the end of the world, as we know it?
Chicken Little falls into that same mediocre Disney animated film category as Meet The Robinsons and Bolt and the more recent Mars Needs Moms. The movie proves that good animation can only get you so far. Without a compelling story, enjoyable characters, or good jokes, the film ultimately falls flat. The heart and storytelling of Pixar are sorely missed in Chicken Little, which relies too much on outdated references and animal gags that don’t entirely make sense in the world they’ve built [...]

Comic Review: The Sixth Gun #16
 |
Posted by PS Hayes | November 10th, 2011 at 3:00 pm |

The Sixth Gun #16
Written by Cullen Bunn
Art by Brian Hurtt
Colors by Bill Crabtree
Letters by Douglas E. Sherwood
Design by Keith Wood
Oni Press
Release Date: October 26th, 2011
Cover Price: $3.99
Much to the chagrin of two of my very good friends, who’ve been trying to get me to read this book for months, this was the first time that I’ve read The Sixth Gun. I have to admit, right off the bat, they were right. It’s, let’s just say, unique. And not in a weird or strange way, I mean it literally. I’ve never read a comic quite like this before.
Keeping in mind that this was the first time I’ve read this book, overall The Sixth Gun #16 was very enjoyable. This issue was part five of a story arc, but, for the most part, I was still able to understand what was going on. There were a few spots were I was a little confused, but nothing that kept me from having a great time reading this book […]

Trailer For ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | November 10th, 2011 at 11:01 am |

It’s hard to argue when expectations are lived up to, no matter how low.
The first trailer for the upcoming sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island has hit, and it looks like utter garbage. Starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Josh Hutcherson, and follows the story of an adventurer who teams with his stepfather to hunt down his grandfather, who himself is lost on a mysterious island. See, it all comes together [...]

Eddie Murphy Out As Oscars Host; Brian Grazer To Replace Brett Ratner As Producer

What a crazy story this has become.
Just yesterday it was reported that Brett Ratner had stepped down as a producer of the 84th annual Academy Awards ceremony after a gay slur and other poor speaking decisions rightfully saw him in boiling water. At the time it appeared that Eddie Murphy—Ratner’s choice to host the awards—would still be taking on the job, but the Academy was now on a desperate search for a replacement producer. [...]

Want To Feel Like A Miracle? Check Out This Infographic Of The Odds That Any Of Us Exist

We don’t often veer off the path of entertainment-related content here at Geeks of Doom, but every now and again you see something that boggles the mind and must be shared with the masses.
Today comes a new infographic that basically proves that the odds of we as human beings existing is pretty much zero. Author Ali Binazir put together the numbers—odds of our many ancestors keeping the line going, of our parents meeting, of the sperm that would become us infusing itself with one of our mother’s eggs—and the digits that resulted are astronomical in size. Will Hunting would weep at the brain-melting size of these numbers [...]

3D Blu-ray Review: Meet The Robinsons
 |
Posted by Waerloga69 | November 9th, 2011 at 9:43 pm |

Meet The Robinsons
3D Blu-ray Combo Pack
Directed by Stephen Anderson
Starring Daniel Hansen, Wesley Singerman, Angela Bassett, Jordan Fry
Walt Disney Pictures Home Entertainment
Release Date: November 8, 2011
Okay, I’ll be honest. I have a special place in my heart for this film. It was the very first theatrical experience for my youngest daughter, Vivienne. So when I found out that this 3D Blu-ray pack for Meet The Robinsons was available for review, I literally jumped at it. I had originally purchased this movie on DVD for the kids to rewatch, but after seeing it in Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D, it was like seeing a whole new movie! The difference between DVD and Blu-ray is quite obvious to any videophile. But somehow, this took it to a whole new level. It has more 3D action and a far crisper rendering than anything I have seen from an animated film before. It is, by far, the best reissue of a kid’s film I have ever witnessed…and my family owns a LOT of kids films in multiple formats [...]

Comic Review: Hellboy: House of the Living Dead

Hellboy: House of the Living Dead
Story by Mike Mignola
Art by Richard Corben
Colors by Dave Stewart
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: November 9, 2011
Cover Price: $14.99
It seems like Mike Mignola and artist Richard Corben had one plan for their recent collaboration on Hellboy: House of the Living Dead. Pack the graphic novel with as many classic horror monsters as possible then have Hellboy beat them to a bloody pulp. Congratulations guys, mission accomplished, they were all there in a manner of speaking, vampires, monsters, ghosts, and let’s not forget Hellboy, kicking in all their skulls. Mignola expresses his affections towards classic B horror movies in his introduction and proceeds to craft a love letter to them through Hellboy: House of the Living Dead, a love letter written in the blood of several unfortunate ghouls [...]
