Australian Trailer For ‘The Lorax’ Hits

Cinemumra   |

To say that the first trailer for Fox’s upcoming adaptation of The Lorax was impressive is putting it lightly.

With the Despicable Me team of Chris Renaud and Kyle Balda behind the project, the upcoming animated flick looks like an absolute charmer, and something to make the month of March, 2012, all the more interesting. And now, we have even more to back that thought. The Australian trailer for the film has been released, and it looks mighty fine [...]

“I’m a woman now: women are cool…”

Many decades ago, the concept of swapping the minds of two characters became a very clichéd plot device. Used across the genres of horror and science fiction, the device eventually found its way into more family friendly media such as Freaky Friday, and has even been used in a few of our favorite Looney Tunes cartoons in years gone by. Doctor Who Volume II #11 (and its predecessor, #10) takes on this plot device, and though clichéd as it is, it fits nicely into the Whoniverse [...]

Brett Ratner Looking to Remake 1980s Teen Sex Comedy ‘The Last American Virgin’

BAADASSSSS!   |

The Last American Virgin

Brett Ratner hasn’t exactly been having the best of weeks so far: his highly-hyped comedy Tower Heist opened in second place at the box office and he recently stepped down as producer of next year’s Oscar telecast following use of an anti-gay slur at a screening of his movie over the weekend.

Never one to let failure get him down (because if he did he would have fled Hollywood long ago), Ratner has turned his attention to a slew of film projects including a new movie with his Tower Heist star Eddie Murphy, a spy drama entitled Hunting Eichmann, and most tantalizing a remake of the 1982 cult classic teen comedy The Last American Virgin.

Ratner briefly discussed his plans to remake The Last American Virgin during his interview Monday on Howard Stern’s radio show. You can listen to that part of the interview here below [...]

Imagine my surprise when I started reading this comic, one that I chose on a whim, and found it’s based on a young adult book series that I used to sell tons of during the last few years my bookstore was open. Now imagine my further surprise when I realized that I liked it! It’s got its quirks, but House of Night #1 is a pretty fun read.

Now, I went into this knowing exactly zilch about the books, so no preconceived notions about the characters or setting. Add to that the fact that there is absolutely no back story or prologue and you have a blank slate on which to create this series. P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast were familiar to me, but Kent Dalian is someone I didn’t know [...]

Stephen King’s ‘Rose Madder’ Getting The Big Screen Treatment Next

BAADASSSSS!   |

Rose Madder

Hollywood will never get tired of exploiting the works of author Stephen King, but in recent months there’s been a great resurgence of interest in turning his novels into film and television properties. First Jonathan Demme, the Oscar-winning director of The Silence of the Lambs, options King’s newest novel 11/22/63 as a potential feature film. Then Warner Bros. begins developing the author’s epic horror-fantasy The Stand into a big-screen adaptation with Ben Affleck possibly calling the shots behind the camera. Most recently came the news that King’s 2009 supernatural horror novel Under the Dome was being turned into an original drama series at Showtime with acclaimed Lost writer and comics scribe Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man) writing the adaptation.

Now King’s 1996 fantasy novel Rose Madder has become his latest work to be earmarked for the celluloid treatment [...]

Long before two Irish brothers became prayer-reciting vigilantes in south Boston, their father went on a similar crusade against the mob. Before the legend of “Il Duce,” there was the life of Noah MacManus. Fans of the cult classic film The Boondock Saints know there were a lot of unanswered questions about the man whose name wasn’t even revealed until the sequel. Though the second film answered many of those questions, the series took to a new medium shortly thereafter, with 12 Gauge Comics publishing a trilogy of comic series exploring the character’s backstory. Now, the whole story is collected in a single graphic novel for the first time in Boondock Saints: In Nomine Patris [...]

The GoD List: Comics For November 9, 2011

MK2Fac3   |

GoD List Banner

Each and every week “All DC, All The Time” MK2Fac3 and “There’s Another Publisher Besides Marvel?” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of November 9, 2011. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

What day is it? Wednesday? Well, I’ll be chicken feathered! It’s time for new comics! And this week, well this week… is kinda light! Especially on the indie front. There’s a lot of DC and a lot of Marvel this week, so forgive us for going mainstream for the most part this week. But just because they’re mainstream comics, it doesn’t mean that they won’t be good. There’s loads of talent and interesting characters out there, and it just so happens that we’re going to talk about them even if they are a result of the corporate publishing machines. Wait, what are we talking about, comics? Never mind, let’s do that! Here’s a bunch of new comics that are coming out this week! [...]

Jason Segel Working On A Kids Adventure Film In The Vein Of ‘The Goonies’

Cinemumra   |

paul rudd jason segel

Sure, remakes/reboots of films like The Goonies may never ultimately happen, but their influence will always be felt, particularly if people like Jason Segel have any say.

According to The Playlist, Segel is hellbent on returning to the first script he ever sold, right around a decade ago, which he describes as a “kids adventure movie in the style of Goonies or Labyrinth.” Sounds interesting enough [...]

New Leonardo Da Vinci Project Being Set Up At Universal

Cinemumra   |

While it may sound a bit silly at first glance, something has this writer thinking that this sucker may ultimately be far more entertaining than it has any right to be.

Variety is reporting that Universal is hard at work on developing a film entitled Leonardo, based on a spec script penned by Jonny Kurzman. The film would follow a young Leonardo da Vinci, and his exploits [...]

The Sarah Jane TARDISblend 45: The Man Who Never Was

cGt2099   |

The Sarah Jane TARDISblend

We bid farewell to the wonderful Elisabeth Sladen, as The Sarah Jane Adventures concludes, with a story that includes an odd CEO of a big tech corporation that Sarah Jane and her companions must investigate. With some underhanded references to modern tech companies, we soon learn that the company is nothing more than a front for something far more sinister and disturbing.

During TARDISblend 45, we review the events of The Man Who Never Was, and pay tribute to Elisabeth Sladen in final adventure in the Whoniverse. Later we make a few recommendations for people to check out, both in earlier Sarah Jane episodes, and in the era of Classic Doctor Who.

All this and more on the latest TARDISblend! [...]

Brett Ratner Steps Down As Oscars Producer After Gay Slur; Eddie Murphy Still Expected To Host

The Movie God   |

Brett Ratner

It began back in August when the surprising announcement was made that Rush Hour and X-Men: The Last Stand director Brett Ratner was being brought on board to produce the 84th annual Academy Awards ceremony with Don Mischer. Then came word that Ratner’s one and only choice to host the ceremony was Eddie Murphy, who ended up landing the job over any other names that might have been discussed.

Now, after a not-so-shining week of promoting his new movie, Tower Heist, Ratner has decided to step down as producer. [...]

Total Recall

In what can be considered to be quite the ambitious project, SEE Games has announced that they have partnered with Chinese online gaming company ZQGame to create a new MMO based on Columbia Pictures’ upcoming Total Recall remake starring Colin Farrell.

Th ambitious part comes in the promise that the MMO (massively multiplayer online) game will be free-to-play, and that it will be made on a specially designed engine allowing for a full-on 3D browser-based experience that’s able to present console-level graphics, characters, and environments with NO need for a client download. ‘Batman Dies At Dawn’ Preview Pages Look Amazing

MK2Fac3   |

Batman Dies At Dawn

DC Comics posted a few preview pages on their official site of the upcoming The All New Batman: The Brave and The Bold #13. And it looks like it could be the greatest comic of the year.

You see folks, I’m a bit of Batman fan. And as a fan of The Bat, I don’t just have a love for what some consider to be the sole protector of Gotham City. Of course I don’t, I love all of Bat family. Huntress, Batwoman, Nightwing, Batgirl, all of the them. And the most obvious member of the Bat Clan is Robin, but what a lot of non-comic obsessed folks might not know is that there has been more than one Robin. In fact, there have been several. And with the release of The All New Batman: The Brave and The Bold #13 brings all of the Robins from the past, present, and future to one comic. And that is the greatest thing [...]

Preview The Pages Of ‘Locke And Key: Guide To The Known Keys’

MK2Fac3   |

Locke and Key News Header

Every week of the year, new comic books hit store shelves and digital store fronts. Some of those comics have been going on for a while, and some of them haven’t. One of the comics that has, however, is Locke and Key>. Written by Joe Hill with art by Gabriel Rodriguez, Locke and Key is probably my favorite comic being published today. But the only problem with the comic having gone on for as long as it has is that, well, it’s not very friendly to new readers. And even those readers who’ve been there since day one might get a little off track by the different parts of the Locke and Key mythology. And oh my goodness! There are so many keys! How can we decipher between them!?

Well friends, IDW Publishing has got you covered. This Wednesday, IDW and Locke and Key will be releasing a one-shot comic entitled Locke and Key: Guide To The Known Keys [...]
